Securing a place at Stamford


Admissions

Stamford offers rolling enrollment throughout the year as long as space is available. Stamford aims to make the admissions process a pleasant, straightforward experience. Please note that admissions meetings and school tours are available by appointment only. Wait List If a place is not available at the time you wish to join, your child’s name will be placed on the wait list and you will be notified as soon as a vacancy is anticipated. Please notify the Admissions Office of any changes of address or other contact details or if your circumstances change. Wait list priority is given to families with siblings.

Application Process

Sibling Priority Stamford aims to welcome all family members into our community. As such, our first admissions priority is given to families with siblings. Acceptance into grade levels with very limited places will be reserved for children with a sibling or multiple siblings already enrolled at Stamford or with applications submitted. Siblings will also be given first priority should there be a wait list in their grade level.

Step 1: Prospective students need to submit all required forms and documents online and pay a non-refundable Application Fee in order to be considered for admissions. Please go to the school website at www.sais.edu.sg to submit an application. Applications are considered in chronological order of receipt. Each applicant is reviewed individually and independently. Step 2: Once the required forms and documents have been submitted and the Application Fee has been received, the Admissions Office and the appropriate school administration will review the application file. More information or interviews may be requested. Families will be notified by email of the outcome. Step 3: When a place is offered, the Facility Fee must be paid within 7 calendar days of receipt of the invoice. If the Facility Fee is not received within 7 calendar days, priority will be given to other applicants. The Medical Examination Form will need to be completed and returned prior to the student’s start date. To apply, please submit the following necessary items: • Completed and signed Application for Admission* • Application Fee for each applicant* • Letter of Guarantee (if applicable)* • Photocopy of applicant’s passport* • Student Questionnaire (Grade 6-12 only)* • Student Contract* • Official transcripts or report cards for the current year and two years prior to current grade level (translated into English)* • Passport sized photograph • Photocopy of Singapore pass/visa • Photocopy of applicant’s Birth Certificate • Standardized achievement test (ITBS, ERB, CAT, MAT, MAP and PSAT) scores (if available) • Educational assessment or specialist reports (where applicable) • Stamford Medical Examination Form *Required at the time of application.

Singapore Nationality/Singapore Passport Holders Approval is required from the Ministry of Education (MOE) before a Singaporean student (6 years old and above) is allowed to attend classes at Stamford. The application for approval from the MOE will be sent as soon as a student is accepted, as required. Please note that Singaporean applicants to Stamford who are 6 years old and above will be accepted onto our wait list and no place will be reserved for the student until formal approval has been granted by the MOE. Student Pass Stamford will register a child requiring a Student Pass with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) after acceptance and parents will process the application from there. Please note that applicants to Stamford requiring a Student Pass will be accepted onto our wait list and no place will be reserved for the student until formal approval has been granted by the ICA. Student Pass holders can commence classes after the student ID has been issued. Student Pass holders must meet the minimum 90% monthly attendance requirements stipulated by the ICA. Age Guidelines The date of reference for grade placement by birthdate is September 1st for Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) through Grade 12. Nursery applicants must be 2 years old, in order to join the school in August, or they may be admitted upon turning 2 years old. Nursery students need not be toilet trained. Pre-K program applicants must be toilet trained by the time they join Stamford. School Changes This school, as any other, is likely to undergo a number of changes during the time your child is here. For example,


there may be changes in the staff, in the premises, facilities and their use, in the curriculum, the size and composition of classes, the Handbook, the Terms and Conditions, the disciplinary framework and the length of the school year.

Tuition and school fees will be regularly reviewed and adjusted annually. Please note: If an applicant’s age or school system precludes having two years of reports, please consult the Admissions Office.

Admissions

Agreement Parents are advised to read the following financial conditions thoroughly before submitting a formal application for enrollment. Your signature on the Application Form implies an acceptance of the school Terms and Conditions. Detailed Terms and Conditions are available on the school website. Payment All charges are expressed in Singapore dollars. Payment may be made by local checks, credit cards and bank-to-bank or wire transfers. USD checks or payments made in other currencies will not be accepted. All checks should be “crossed” and made payable to ‘Stamford American International School Pte. Ltd.’ Post-dated checks are not accepted. Stamford accepts credit card payments with a 2.5% administrative fee. Payments by credit card can be made in person at the Finance Office, Jefferson Building, Level 4. For AMEX credit card holders, payment can be made remotely by completing an AMEX payment form. Please contact the Finance Office for this form which must be completed and submitted back to Finance for payment authorization. We have a 6-month installment plan for DBS/POSB credit card holders. Details of these payment methods can be provided by our Finance Office at +65 6602 7243 or +65 6602 4144 or finance@sais.edu.sg. Payment by Employers or Third Parties If school fees are to be paid by a company/employer please complete the Letter of Guarantee and submit it to the Admissions Office. An authorized representative from the company/employer will need to sign and stamp this form. Parents are responsible for keeping their employer/company informed of all information regarding Tuition Fee, payment terms and all other fees. Financial responsibility for all school fees remains with the parents irrespective of payments made by third parties. Discounts • Application Fee: 50% discount on the Application Fee for the application of a third child and a full waiver of the Application Fee for a fourth child and beyond. • Facility Fee: 50% discount for enrollment of a third child at Stamford and a full waiver of the Facility Fee for a fourth child and beyond. • Tuition Fee: 10% discount for the third child in a family and 20% for the fourth child and beyond. (Discounts are applied from the oldest to the youngest. For example, if there are 3 children in the family, the youngest child will receive the discount.) Goods and Services Tax (GST) GST at the prevailing rate will be applied to all school fees and will be reflected on your invoice where it applies. Stamford

American International School Pte. Ltd. is registered with the Comptroller of Goods and Services Tax. Our registration number is 200823594D. The GST rate established as of July 1, 2007 is 7%. Non-Refundable Application Fee No application is considered until the Application Fee is paid. Returning students will not be required to pay the Application Fee if they re-apply within one year of leaving. The Application Fee may be refunded, less an administrative fee of $500 plus GST, for applicants who are not accepted at the time of application for reasons not related to wait lists. In all other cases, the Application Fee is not refundable and is not transferable. Non-Refundable Facility Fee The Facility Fee is payable in full at the time of acceptance in order to secure a place. If payment is not received within 7 calendar days of receipt of the school’s invoice, priority will be given to other applicants. The Facility Fee is a one-time administrative fee that is non-refundable. The full amount applies regardless of enrollment date. Tuition Fee Tuition Fee includes all textbooks and workbooks. Replacement of lost textbooks, workbooks, library books and other school resources will be expected to be funded by the student/ family prior to the distribution of additional resources. Tuition Fee is payable semi-annually on May 1st and October 1st, or annually on May 1st. A 6-month installment plan for semiannual payments is available through DBS/POSB credit card programs with an administrative fee. For students commencing after the start of the academic year, the Tuition Fee is payable immediately. Students cannot attend classes unless all fees have been paid. Technology Fee The Technology Fee provides access to all of Stamford’s technology resources and includes maintenance, insurance and repair or replacement of technology as needed. Stamford’s education technology reflects the school’s commitment to providing the best resources for our students and includes 1-to-1 iPads for Kindergarten 2 through Grade 5, 1-to-1 MacBook Pros for Grade 6 through Grade 12, classroom desktop computers, computer labs, promethean boards in every class, video-conferencing facilities and more. The Technology Fee is not included in the tuition installments and must be paid annually prior to student’s start date. Compulsory Trips and Activities Tuition Fee includes field trips within Singapore, but does not include school trips outside Singapore or overnight trips that will be billed separately.


Admissions

Required Secondary School Camp Fee All Secondary School grades have required class camps in Semester 1. The following are the Camp Fees, by grade, for 2013-14. Grade

The Camp Fee is typically invoiced after the beginning of school. However, the required Camp Fee can be included in the Semester 1 invoice upon request. If you wish to have the Camp Fee included in your Tuition Fee invoice, please notify Stamford Finance at finance@sais.edu.sg. Elementary School Camp is usually held in Semester 2 and the Camp Fee will be billed separately at that time. Optional School Lunch Plan Stamford offers a lunch plan option which includes a daily meal and snack for the semester. The cost per semester is $800 for Pre-Kindergarten students and $980 for students in Grade KG1 and above. If a student with this plan withdraws from school before the end of the semester, a pro-rata refund of the unused portion of the meals will be made. However, all balances must be fully utilized within a semester and are not transferable to another student or another semester. If you wish to have this lunch plan included in your Semester 1 Tuition Fee invoice, please notify Stamford Finance at finance@sais.edu.sg.

Transportation Stamford offers a door-to-door bus service for the regular school hours, subject to demand. The school also offers a Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) Bus, subject to demand. Transportation Fee is invoiced separately and is in addition to school fees. Stamford-Student Contract The Stamford-Student Contract is an important legal document between the school and each student that details the Course Information and Fees, Refund Policies, Fee Protection Scheme (FPS), Medical Insurance Scheme, etc. Execution of this contract before a student starts school is a legislative requirement of the Council for Private Education and provides extra protection for Stamford students. Deferment of Acceptance Once a student is accepted and the Facility Fee has been paid, a place is secured. Should it be necessary, a student may defer their school start date for up to one year from the initial start date indicated in the acceptance letter. After a one year deferment, the acceptance will no longer be valid and the student will need to re-apply. If for any reason, acceptance is cancelled by the family before starting school, the Application Fee and Facility Fee will not be refunded. For additional information see “Cancellation of Acceptance.” Cancellation of Acceptance If, for any reason, parents cancel their acceptance of a place before the student starts at the school, the Application Fee and Facility Fee will not be refunded. Tuition Fees paid in advance will be refunded provided sufficient notice has been given. For cancellation after the student’s commencement, please refer to “Withdrawals”.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Program Fee The school offers additional educational support in English for eligible students for whom English is not their primary language. The school will determine on a case-by-case basis if English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is required as a condition of continued enrollment. This EAL Program Fee is payable by semester in addition to the Tuition Fee. Specialist teachers are arranged to provide this service and as such, EAL Program Fee is non-refundable should the student subsequently withdraw from the program.

Withdrawals For students currently enrolled in the school, notice to withdraw is required by October 1st if your child will not be returning in January after the Holiday Break, or by May 1st, if they are not returning for the commencement of the new school year in August. Tuition Fees are not refundable in whole or in part. However, parents who have made annual Tuition Fee payments may receive a refund on the second installment provided notice is given in accordance with school policy. Written notice must be received by the Admissions Office on or before these notice dates. Please note that email notification is considered written notice.

Specialized Support Program Stamford offers a Specialized Support Program for students who require support for learning differences. The needs of eligible students will be assessed on an individual basis and parents should discuss their situation with the Admissions Office prior to making an application for enrollment.
