2013 Holiday Lookbook

Page 1

My love for crafting at Christmas started in childhood when my Mom would gather us together at the kitchen table to make garlands of colored construction paper and popcorn to string up on the tree. The traditions continue at our kitchen table with my own children where they join me in making marshmallow snowmen and wrapping presents for their cousins, always with a Christmas movie playing in the background. I’ve dreamed of designing a collection of holiday fabrics and gift wraps to craft and play with during the holiday season, and this year I did it! In my collection, you’ll find traditional motifs and palettes and modern ones too. The pages that follow show you all the fun you can have. Full step-by-step instructions on all the DIY projects featured on these pages coming soon on the blog. Wishing you all the joy that the season brings,

Just one roll of paper !

Red is the color of Christmas and it’s fresh and fun when combined with beautiful aqua blue! A tablecloth sewn with 4 yards of Ribbons Berry + Aqua cotton fabric sets the festive scene. 4

Complementary gift wraps in the Mingle, Sprig, and Ribbons patterns add to the merry and bright setting at a brunch table set to entertain friends! If ordering fabrics, note the slight variations in inks when printing different fabrics, common with digital printing methods.

Linen napkins add a personal touch to your holiday table and also make wonderful gifts. One yard of linen/cotton canvas yields six napkins - layer a charger and dinner plate with your custom creation and top with a sparkling ornament for the simplest place setting ever!

How do you embellish gifts ? My favorites include twill, satin, and burlap ribbons, plus a sprig of evergreen or berries, and a candy cane is always welcome !

Satin gift wraps are recommended for crafting, they are thick and substantial and stand up to hot glue! Download the complementary gift wrap tags (left) by visiting Centsational Girl.

As the song goes, it’s the best time of the year! I love to fill my home with the scents of the season - cedar garland swagged up the staircase and a pitcher of holly bring Christmas cheer to the entry. A dash of red completes the traditional holiday palette. Each lined stocking was created with a single fat quarter of linen/cotton canvas blend. The template and full tutorial will be published in November on the blog. These are the most simple stockings to sew, and offer a place to store surprise gifts for loved ones.

Simple stockings in the green Ribbons and Sprig fabrics are a nod to the evergreens we decorate with at Christmas. Fabrics and gift wraps featured: Ribbons in Moss + Olive Sprig in Evergreen

Special thanks to: Lynch Creek Farm for shipping yards of evergreen garland, wreaths, and holly. Our friends the Durenbergers who loaned me the back of their barn for a photo shoot on a fall afternoon. My husband who tolerated craft supplies in every corner and kindly took over bedtime stories while I spent those extra hours with my glue gun. My children who didn’t complain that I strung evergreen garland in October and wrapped their instant oatmeal boxes to make fake presents. And all of the readers who visit the blog each day, you inspire me to keep creating.

Projects, photography, layout, fabric and gift wrap designs by Kate Riley. Gift wraps and fabrics available at Spoonflower through December 2013.
