Together with my family, we would like to welcome you to our 5th Annual Rifle Creek Cattle Company 2-year-old advantage purebred Charolais Bull Sale at our ranch.
As I sit here and reflect upon the year, it’s hard to believe we are about to the end of year 2022, as a rancher; the days go by fast no matter the time of year, just part of the title. There doesn’t seem to ever be enough light in the day, especially now with the time change. Typical rancher thing to say I suppose, always needing more light to get more time to work. One thing is for certain, we are blessed to live in some of the most beautiful Sandhills on God’s green earth, with the historic Rifle Creek etching its winding way through the land. This year it ran dry most of the year, due to the drought that most of the country is experiencing.
Speaking of the drought, lots of producers this year had to come to terms with that and sell off their herds. Record number of cattle went through the sale barns this year. Hay prices are soaring mostly due to lower yields and supply and demand. Folks, its dry! We can only hope and pray that we get the moisture we need for the remaining of us that are adapting to the challenges we face and that lie ahead. Farmers and ranchers sure don’t get enough credit for the grit we possess for the hardships we face but all the while still willing to help their neighbors. My fellow agriculture men and women, we see you and we pray for you and your families. We really do belong to best industry of people in the world.
Now on to the bulls, the year flew by and here we are with another great offering for our customers. All the bulls on the sale are a coming two-year-old and have been raised and backgrounded correctly. As with all our bulls, they are strong, sound, and superior from head to hoof. They weren’t overly pushed on any spectrum because we are firm believers that overly fat is not where it’s at when it comes to seedstock. We raise performers and that’s where the 2-year-old advantage comes in.

Ranch History
The foundation of our business started back in 1980 with Lawrence and Thelma Reicks, Riley’s maternal grandparents. They started their herd with registered Charolais cows from Vic Gentry. Lawrence and Thelma joined the “Designers Group,” which was started by Gentry and included several Charolais breeders in Nebraska and South Dakota.
The Reicks held their first bull sale in Broken Bow, Ne in 1981 and their second the following years. In 1983, Lawrence decided it was time to build a sale facility here on the home ranch and proceeded to have his very first at-home sale that year.
At the peak of The Reicks Charolais business, they owned 400 registered Charolais females.
The Reicks brand was/is well known in central Nebraska as a reflection of top-quality registered Charolais Bulls.
Riley, with his wife; Stephanie and their children, are following in their footsteps as the third generation to continue the Reicks legacy of the Purebred Charolais Bull. We hope to provide the same humbling experience that Lawrence and Thelma instilled to their customers and friends.

Between mile markers 247 and 248, located on the east side of the road with the Charolais bull sign. Cross the railroad tracks and the auto gate and proceed down the road (1/2 a mile) to the red and white Morton building (RCCC Sale Facility).

THE RCC GUARANTEE
All bulls selling are backed by the Rifle Creek Guarantee. All bulls are guaranteed through the first breeding season; defined as the 90-day period from first turnout of bulls. If a replacement bull is not available, credit will be issued at our next annual sale. Credit will be for the purchase price, minus salvage value of the injured bull to be used for the purchase of one replacement bull. Please notify us as soon as possible should injury occur and prior to the injured bull being sold for salvage. Reproductive injuries must be examined by a veterinarian. Please keep all proper documentation. This guarantee does not cover death. All claims must be made by October 1st of the current year.

DELIVERY
Rifle Creek Cattle Company offers free delivery in the state of Nebraska. Please call Riley Seda to discuss delivery outside that radius and he will assist you in mileage rates and volume discounts. We will start delivering bulls immediately upon request between sale day and January 12th unless otherwise discussed.
HEALTH AND FERTILITY
All RC bulls have been expertly cared for with their health at the center. From birth to sale day all bulls have been on a mineral program, completely vaccinated, and dewormed for internal and external parasites. Every bull offered for sale have passed a complete breeding soundness exam. All bulls available for sale have tested negative for BVD and TRICH and will be furnished with interstate health papers.

FEED & CARE
If you are unable to take your bull on sale day, we will board your bull/bulls free of charge until Jan 12th. After that date the rate of $3.00/day apply.

Terms of sale are cash or check. The auctioneer will handle any disputes as to bids. All cattle must be settled for at the conclusion of the auction. Cattle are the property of the buyers as soon as they are paid for in full.

Heterosis
1. The tendency of a crossbred individual to show qualities superior to those of both parents.
2. Hybrid vigor, or outbreeding enhancement is the improved or increased function of any biological quality in a hybrid offspring.
The benefits of crossbreeding are well known and one of the oldest practices of cattlemen far and wide. The best thing about heterosis is that it’s cumulative. So, as you start down a crossbreeding program, the fact that you have daughters that are more fertile, and produce more milk and have longer longevity, that the real benefit. Breeds can be combined to fit multiple market situations and e nvironments.
Heterosis is the icing on the cake. But breeds are what determine the taste of the cake.
