Hi, I'm Kathleen.
I am a proactive and diligent girl, who tries the best to strike a balance in my life. I have great enthusiasm for learning new things, and initiative to achieve the goal. Furthermore, my executing and communicating ability is highly praised by the members in the team.
Industrial Design
During college, not only did I advance my design skills but also I found the values I care about, such as education, the health of people and the relationship between the elderly and their caregivers. I hope through better design and user experience, we can make people's lives better. In addition to the completeness of the user experience and the emotional aspect, I am also good at designing market-oriented projects.
and Beyond...
I am passionate about branding and marketing, therefore, not only did I minor in Financial management during college but also started a podcast channel to build my own personal brand. I met a lot of outstanding designers and built up my social network from this experience.

As an undergraduate, I feel anxious about the uncertainties in the future. Who am I? Where should I go? I started to explore this world and learn new things as much as I can, and I want to share this knowledge with others. Therefore, I decided to establish this podcast. Through interviewing designers from various fields, I hope to help design students find their own paths.

01 Elegy for the Arctic
I hope to convey through this chair how distinctive and fragile the Arctic is, how global warming has made life even tougher for the already at-risk polar bears to those who fail to register a deeper understanding of the Arctic today. This chair was inspired and designed to pay tribute to Ludovico Einaudi, an Italian musician who performed while floating in the Arctic Ocean in front of the Wahlenbergbreen glacier in Svalbard, Norway.

Design Concept — What I could do as a designer? The concept of this chair was inspired by the piano recital performed by Italian pianist “Elegy for the Arctic” was composed in the hopes of bringing more attention to the preservation of the Arctic glaciers. I was deeply touched when I saw the glacier fall during his performance and I began to think further about what I could do as a designer to call for the public’s attention towards this hauntingly fragile place that is so worthy of our protection.
Arctic Sea Ice Arctic sea ice likely reached its minimum extent for the year, 1.44 million square miles, on September 15. The 2020 minimum is the second lowest in the nearly 42-year satellite record according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). That extent is about 46% of the area of the 48 contiguous states. A Siberian heat wave began this year’s Arctic sea ice melt season early, and with Arctic temperatures 14°F to 18°F warmer than average, the ice kept melting. WANG YU WEN 2022 PORTFOLIO

It is meant to provoke further thoughts of the Arctic’s wild inhabitants that are endangered as global warming threatens their resources and chances for survival.

Prototype To prove that this design can withstand reasonable weight, I visited countless metal processing factories and was finally able to find a metalwork master who appreciated my design and was willing to help me. After discussions, I modified parts of my design and asked the master to weld the bars together one by one according to their size. Afterwards, the bars were fixed firmly on top of two pieces of tempered glass allowing it to bear the weight of an adult.
My Reflection In the second semester of my sophomore year, I contacted numerous factories for someone willing to produce this chair according to the specifications of my design. I encountered many setbacks and challenges during the process; I also learned how to communicate with the metalwork master as a designer. Due to my selection of materials, various factors such as load-bearing and comfort were duly considered in the design. Even now, I am still very satisfied with my piece. Design Concept
E-learning has grown in significance as an educational tool has developed and progressed over the years. Interestingly, there have been more efforts at advancing technology than on attempting to understand the needs and learning styles of individual learners.
"How Might We Boost The Interactivity Of Online Learning?" For an effective online teaching approach, we should provide students with opportunities for active learning. Student-centered instruction helps students cultivate a “can do” attitude and allows for autonomous and active learning.

User Flow In the class, teachers can interact with students simply through their computers. They can remind students to join the class by ringing their interactive cube as if the school bell ring in the school. Whenever students have questions, they can shake their interactive cube, and the teacher would notice. The smart projector also makes it easier for students to take a shot at their homework and hand it in.
Modeling We have cooperated with many different professions from school, engineer to enterprises, to make a working prototype to let our user test whether it works or not.

My Reflection I tried to integrate hardware and software design to solve problems and bring convenience and joy into people's life. In this project, we have cooperated with many different professions from school, engineer to enterprises. Since this project is relatively complex, I found it hard to integrate and express it. Even so, we modified our design again and again. In the hopes of providing students with a great environment to learn in distance education.

Design Background
Chinese Medicine Market Research
—The possibility of scientific pulse diagnosis in traditional Chinese medicine
User's Pain Point
Through the research, we found that traditional Chinese medicine is still widely accepted by young people. Among them, women are the majority. However, modern people expect the treatment to be quick and efficient, which reduces the willingness of the young to take traditional Chinese medicine.
Through the in-depth interview and survey, we found that the users’ pain points when they go see traditional chinese doctors are: It takes too much time to get well. I can't see the obvious effect.
Not sure which kind of symptoms should I see the traditional chinese doctor.
Target Users TCM Pulse Diagnosis In TCM pulse diagnosis, there are about 20-30 types of pulse conditions. By detecting heart rate and pulse, the pulse analyzer can now analyze eight kinds of pulse conditions through big data to determine the patient's physique, conditioning

For women who value efficiency and often go out, meanwhile, pay attention to their health. There may be needs for menstrual irregularities, postpartum conditioning, and irritability.
For women who value the sense of ritual and live a regular life. Those who may face menopause and want to improve their emotional problems can acquire the correct concept of health preservation and be relaxed while measuring.
After interviewing professionals, we found two precautions to be kept in mind : a. The need for light-shading when measuring. b. Hands need to be relaxed when measuring.
a. Easy to carry & measure b. More gentle and soft feel
We decided to make a mock-up to figure out which shape is more suitable for users' hands.
Mock-up We tried four models to confirm that the hand can fit the instrument well, and the bird-shaped model feels and looks the best.

My Reflection In this project, we delve into the relationships between traditional Chinese medicine, personalized medicine, and patients. I think the most challenging part of it is to transform the abstract concept into visualized data. Therefore, we visited a lot of Chinese Medicine clinics and asked the doctors " What do you need to know about your patients' symptoms and habits in order to give them the best prescriptions?" and whether this design is helpful for them to have a better understanding of patients' condition. It is a trend that software-hardware co-designs are making peoples' lives more convenient.

◇ Grandma cannot understand Mandarin. ◇ The elderly found it hard to start telling a story. ◇ The elderly prefer to share stories more than listen to stories.
◆ The audio uses more common words. ◆ Allow the caregiver to demonstrate first. ◆ The narrative is easy to understand and provides more opportunities to share the story.

Visual Design is also a key work in board game design. We design the cards and packages by ourselves to make the elderly feel a sense of intimacy and a heart for playing.
