active adults Square Dancing Fun This is not your grandparent’s square dancing! Today’s social square dancing teaches you the basic calls and gets you out dancing with other square dancers in the Chicagoland area with confidence and competence in a shortened time. Square dancing is also an excellent form of exercise because of all the walking you do to the beat of the music; it is social because of all the friendly people you meet. It is mentally stimulating because of the calls you learn and respond to while dancing. All these benefits go hand-in-hand with having fun! And while Country and Western have certainly been the traditional music for square dancing, today’s dancers move to a variety of music, including current rock hits. As long as the music has a good beat, it is suitable for square dancing! Singles, couples, and young people ages 12 and older are welcome to attend these beginning classes. Wear casual clothes and comfortable shoes. No class on 11/25, 12/23 & 12/30. Each session is limited to 15 people only, first come, first serve. Birders must have their binoculars and dress for the weather. Participants park and meet at Isaak Walton Park on Elmhurst Road at 7:30am and leave directly from there. Social distancing of 6 to 10’ and a mask is required for the unvaccinated. The format is 24 hands of Rubber Bridge. Each player plays eight hands, partnering with each of the other three players at their table. Each month you will play with a different group of players as much as this is possible. Each table is free to play at its own comfortable pace. We play on the second Thursday of each month from October through the first Thursday in June. Play begins promptly at 10:00 am, and the room is available until 2:00pm.
