This public garden offers a tranquil, peaceful space for reflection amid the hustle and bustle of an area close to the heart of the capital. Indeed there are plenty of places in the garden for such reflection; the paths are lined with benches donated by the families of US citizens who have enjoyed the gardens while based at the many nearby US institutions, including the US embassy. Visitors can observe a variety of tree species, including a Canary Islands Date Palm and three Dawn Redwoods from Southeast China. 72 MICHEL ROUX JR’S SEASONS

The Connaught Hotel & Hélène Darroze at The Connaught

A cornerstone of Mayfair Village since the early part of the 19th century, the Connaught has evolved into a sumptuous five-star hotel, whose English charm, discreet ambiance and understated glamour remain unchanged. In 2008, Hélène Darroze, one of the most celebrated of the new generation of French chefs, brought her Michelin-starred cuisine to the Connaught, creating a menu that earned her a second Michelin star. Serving delectable French cuisine inspired by the authentic regional and seasonal flavours of south-west France, the two-Michelin-starred Hélène Darroze restaurant offers exquisite fine dining.

Fino’s wine cellar

The original London wine bar, Fino’s wine cellar opened in 1971, quickly establishing itself as Mayfair’s favourite watering hole. The wine cellar is famed for its warren of passageways, which lead to secret alcoves and private dining rooms. Sample wines such as a 2008 Tignanello Antinori, a 2009 Meursault Piere Andre and a 2001 Gran Reserva Heredad de Baroja. Fino’s also serves food, with a restaurant menu which features traditional dishes such as slow roasted pork belly to the Italian specialty Tagliatelle ai “Stracetti” pasta.

Pyms Gallery Nyumba

Created in 2003 by celebrity stylist Michael Charalambous and entrepreneur Matthew Gerber, Nyumba House of Hair and Beauty is an exotic and luxurious salon in a converted bank at 6-7 Mount Street. The striking African décor was inspired by Michael’s childhood in Tanzania. Nyumba means “home” in Swahili, aiming to create a welcoming environment where guests can relax and indulge all their senses.

Pyms Gallery was first established in 1975. From its inception, its founders – Alan and Mary Hobart – set exacting standards in the research, presentation and intrinsic quality of the works of art that passed through their hands. They have been widely recognised as specialists in the field of late 19th and early 20th century and contemporary British, French and Irish Art. At its nineteenth century premises on Mount Street, in the heart of London’s major art-dealing district, the gallery maintains an elegant, yet convivial ambience in which pictures can be viewed and discussed. 73

Scot t’s

Jenny Packham

Scott’s is a name that resonates down the years: an oyster warehouse founded in 1851, by the time it moved to its current location in 1968 it was one of the most fashionable and glamorous seafood restaurants in town, famed as the site of Ian Fleming’s discovery of the dry martini “shaken, not stirred”. Martin Brudnizki’s refurbishment brought a feel of timeless Art Deco glamour to the space, reinforced by work specially commissioned from leading British artists. The all day menu also reflects its glittering heritage, serving the very finest traditional fish and seafood dishes alongside a variety of meat and seasonal game favourites.

This British luxury design house, favoured by both royalty and celebrities alike, has chosen Mayfair as the location for its first ready-to-wear flagship store. Packham, famed primarily for her bridal gowns and ready-to-wear collections, was voted Best British Bridal Designer in both 2011 and 2012. In 2013, the Jenny Packham brand will celebrate its 25th Anniversary. Her designs have been selected for stylistically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated film and television productions including Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada, James Bond Casino Royale and Die Another Day.
