Trouble Code Analysis | PACE Car Manual The PACE Trouble Code Analysis helps you to better understand the error messages of your car. In this chapter, we will explain which information is covered by the trouble codes of a car and can therefore be read out by PACE. Furthermore, we will give you an overview of all settings that affect this feature.

In order to read trouble codes, your PACE Car app has to be connected to your PACE Link.

Therefore, the Trouble Code Analysis can only take place while you are sitting in your car and the ignition is turned on. You can of course access trouble codes which have already been detected while your app is "offline".

PACE reads the trouble-code memory of your car automatically while your PACE Car app and your PACE Link are connected. It informs you about anything being wrong as soon as a code is detected.

You can also "actively" start the reading process yourself. In the following, both versions of the Trouble-Code Analysis are described.

is fineWhat exactly can be depicted?

PACE reads out the powertrain trouble codes as well as the body, chassis and network trouble codes of your car as far as these have been implemented by the manufacturer. Thus, PACE covers all trouble codes that the console unit saves read this post in the error memory. Most errors are therefore recorded by PACE. A further, manufacturer-specific reading of the specific console units is not possible at the moment.

Aside from the trouble codes, a car also gives out so-called suggestions. These contain information which is proclaimed by error lamps or similar devices, but is not listed in the error memory of your car. Therefore, PACE cannot discern them, i.e. they will not be displayed by PACE. These so-called suggestions cover, for example, the following small problems. All of them will not be displayed: Number plate lamp is defect Windscreen washer water is empty Headlights lamp is defect Parking light is defect etc.

Trouble codes are, in conclusion, all pertaining to the engine, the inner electrical system, the exhaust sensors and the sensors at the wheels and the axis of the car. Everything else is recognized as a "suggestion" by the car and is not transferred to the OBD2 port and therefore to PACE. If you are shown such a suggestion by your car, do not be surprised that PACE is not informing you about it.

Moreover, it is important to understand that the trouble code analysis is running parallel and permanently in the background while you are driving. Thus, you do not need to actively do anything you just have to make sure to have PACE set to inform you about the trouble codes. More information about these settings are in the section Preferences.

What happens when PACE reads out a trouble code?

As the PACE Link is only turned on while your engine is running and therefore can also only communicate with your car and your app, trouble codes can only be read out in Drive Mode. Yet the trouble code menu is to be found in the Timeline Mode as the displayed data is too complex to read while driving. Instead, a push notification informs you when an error is detected. You can choose to which kind of trouble codes you want to get notifications. How to do so is explained in the chapters In-App Notifications and Background Notifications.

The detailed description of a trouble code can be accessed when you turn off your engine. More about this is explained in the next section.

Moreover, you have an "active" option to read trouble codes. An exact description of this is in the section Actively Reading Trouble Codes.

Fixing Errors by Yourself If an error is easy to fix yourself, PACE will give you an exact description how to do so. If the same error occurs regularly, we recommend visiting a repair shop.

You can find the detailed description of an error in the Timeline Mode. Therefore, your engine has to be turned off. As soon as a trouble code was recognized, the number of detected trouble codes is displayed in the tab bar. Next to the trouble code icon, the specific number will be depicted within a red circle. Tap on this symbol to access a list of all trouble code categories. If an error was detected, the specific trouble code will be listed in its corresponding category.

You can also access trouble codes directly from your respective Car Profile.

Trouble codes are sorted into the following categories: General Ignition system Exhaust-gas control system Speed and idle speed control Computer Transmission As long as no problems have been detected, a green, round icon with a checkmark is displayed behind each category. When PACE reads out and saves a trouble code, the number of recognized trouble codes is displayed in the Timeline menu bar in a red icon in the upper right corner of the trouble code symbol. If you then open the trouble code menu, there is now a red triangle within a circle next to the category the specific error belongs to. Below, the trouble code is listed with the same icon.

On the top of the page, the name of the code is displayed as well as a description of it. Here you are also informed about how you should act and if you can do anything to rectify the error.

Below this, there is more information that was transmitted by your car along with the code itself; this is called Freeze Frame data.

There will be no do-it-yourself instructions to difficult problems. Please visit a repair shop in such situations.

Will I never have to have my car repaired again with the PACE trouble code analysis?

Of course, your car still needs to be regularly and professionally maintained. While PACE can exactly inform you about all trouble codes, it is not always possible to find the exact source of the problem without your car being closely inspected. You therefore cannot avoid visiting a repair shop.

The PACE Trouble Code Analysis is meant to assist you in fixing smaller problems yourself.

Moreover, it gives you more detailed information to the error lamps of your car. With it, you know how you need to act when a certain error message pops up - can you drive on or do you need to call the nearest repair shop right away?

We also strongly advise you not to make any changes to the mechanical or electrical systems of your car. Please reach out to a professional in such cases!

Preferences There are two main settings which influence the Trouble Code Analysis. With these, you can set when and about which errors you want to be notified. You can decide which trouble codes you want to receive a notification for, both while you are actively using the PACE Car app, i.e. while using the Drive Mode, and while the app is not running in the foreground.

To access these preferences, first tap on the "More" button in the Timeline tab bar and then choose "Preferences".

Now, tap on "In-app notifications". Here, you can choose which information want displayed while you use the app. In the lower part of this screen, you can find the options regarding trouble codes.

PACE sorts all errors in the following three categories: Warnings Errors Critical errors These categories differ in the severance of the matched trouble codes; you can find a more detailed description of them in the section Error Messages. Tap on the icon in front of a category to select it.

Trouble codes belonging to a category with a green tick icon will be displayed as notifications.

Switch the icon to an empty, black icon to disable notifications.

To close this menu, tap on the left-pointing arrow in the upper left corner of the screen.

Now, you can open the "Background notifications" settings. After scrolling down, you will find the same settings as in the "In-app notifications" menu. Choose, which information you want to have displayed while you are not actively using the app. Note that you will not get any notifications when you have completely shut down your app.

Again, you can close this menu and return to the "Preferences" screen by tapping on the left-facing arrow in the upper left corner. More information about all settings is in the chapter Preferences.

Deleting Trouble Codes You cannot delete any trouble codes in the Timeline Mode. To do so, PACE has to access the trouble code memory of your car. This can only be done with an active connection of your PACE Car app and your PACE Link. Thus, you can find the corresponding setting only in the Drive Mode of your app.

Turn on the ignition of your car and wait for your app to connect to the PACE Link. We advise you to only set back the trouble code memory of your car while standing.

As already explained in the chapters regarding the Drive Mode, you can set back the trouble code memory of your car in the Drive Mode menu. First, open the menu by either swiping down (Android) or long pressing (since iOS version 1.4) on the tabular view. Here, you can find the option "Delete trouble codes". Tap on it to delete all saved codes within the trouble code memory of your car.

With PACE, you can only read or delete trouble codes. Coding or programming the control devices is not possible. As such a feature is not allowed under our e-Mark Certification, it will not be implemented in the future. The e-Mark Certification guarantees that PACE can legally be used on German roads. Actively Reading Trouble Codes

No trouble code

has been detected You moreover have the option to manually start the reading process of the Trouble-Code Analysis and then directly check its results. This can be done additionally to all previously described features of the Trouble-Code Analysis.

Like previously described, PACE can only access the trouble-code memory of your car while your PACE Car app is in the Drive Mode. Therefore, you can find this feature in the Drive Mode menu.

You can open this by longpressing on the Drive Mode table. Here, select the menu item "Trouble Codes". By doing so, you access the active Trouble-Code Analysis where you can start a new analyzing process or delete the trouble-codes saved in the memory of your car. Furthermore, all previously detected trouble codes are listed here.

Safety notice: Please only use the active Trouble Code Analysis while your car is standing. If a warning lamp suddenly lights up, please stop at the side of the road first before examining the problem further.

The detected

codes are listed here If no trouble code has been read before, only a short explanation about the Trouble Code Analysis will be displayed here. Below, there is the button "Read trouble-code memory". Tap on it to start this process. The analysis is going to take a moment to finish. All detected problems will be displayed in a list afterwards.

If at least one trouble code has been detected or if one was just detected by an analyzing process, all previously read codes will be listed here. Tap on one such problem to get more information about it.

The layout of the following screen is structured the same way as the Trouble Code information screen in the Timeline Mode. An exact description of this can be found in the previous section Fixing Errors by Yourself. Moreover, you get information about when the last Trouble-Code Analysis was conducted no matter whether this process was started automatically or manually.

Now you have the option to read the trouble-code memory of your car again or delete all saved trouble codes in it.

Can I set back the service interval?

No; though you can delete the trouble code memory of your car, you cannot set back the service interval of your car with PACE. It is always important to have your car regularly and professionally checked. Therefore, this feature will also not be available in the future.
