PEN PALS (ROSE STUDENT AWARDS) Context In the days of phones, email, and text messages, letter writing can seem hopelessly outdated. But it’s an art worth bringing back, and not because of some misplaced sense of nostalgia either. The writing and reception of letters will always offer an experience that modern technology cannot touch.

Brief Find the big idea to promote having a “traditional” Pen Pal – one you write to, not tweet, wall post or DM. Make friends the world over - have a Pen Pal! This is a friend that you can practice language, literacy and share stories with, learning about culture and lifestyle along the way. Any medium is acceptable - use an integrated approach.

Preparation/Research suggestions Look at the traditions of letter writing and what the advantages of this are in comparison to the technological advances that are so current i.e. (email, social networking etc.) Look at exciting and creative ways to get people engaged with the tradition of letter writing. Look into potential formats for your outcome.

Evidence – for this project students should submit A clear and outlined response to the brief in any format you feel acceptable.
