LA LANGUE FRANÇAISE. Context: French adjective: Of or relating to France and its people or language noun The Romance language of France French is also the only language, with English, that is taught in every country of the world, with 100 million students and 2 million teachers – 20 % of whom are outside of francophone countries. Learning a language is difficult. There are many rules to come to terms with that may not apply to your first language. The French language is one of the most popular in the world with 128 million Francophones: speak French (as a native or adopted language) fluently and use it on a regular basis. French and English are the only languages that are taught in every country.
Brief The task is to create a publication that allows beginners to get a better understanding of the basics of French. It is up to you which direction you take, whether it is something as simple as the French alphabet, numbers 1-50, basic words, popular phrases or all of the above combined. The publication should be displayed in a visually attractive way, taking into consideration layout and the relationship between type and image. Think visually about what would best suit the contents of this publication, what audience would you be targeting? Is the alphabet directed at young children? Or is the book directed at an older audience trying to get to grips with the basics of French? The audience should inform your overall design outcome and should be considered at each stage.
Preparation/Research suggestions You will need to look into the basics of the French language (the alphabet, numbers, months, days etc.) Popular French phrases and sayings would also be useful for the content of the publication. Other means of research would be to look into other language books and how you could move away from this generic layout and style and add something different and creative to your overall outcome. Look at examples of layout and editorial.
Evidence – for this project students should submit An appropriately visual French language book for beginners
