Learn My Way – Centre Guidance Notes Completion Criteria For a learner to count as a completion for this project and therefore generate an outcome payment they must meet the following criteria: Online Basics: complete at least the 2 of the following modules:
Using online searches Using email Using the internet safely Public services
(Note – the “Using a mouse” and “Using a keyboard” modules are excluded as these can be freely accessed without the need to open an account) Online Plus: complete at least 3 of the following modules:
Job hunting online – priority course for this project Jobs and interviews – priority course for this project Understanding public services online Make money work Using a computer Shopping online Facebook and socialising online Completing online forms Photos online Using a mobile phone
As an additional action, we have also been asked to signpost registered and logged in learners to the new “health” section; www.learnmyway.com/health. Issues Will there be problems with networks regarding the cookies that are required? See screen-print below. Suggest that somebody tries to work through registering and a module to check that all screens open – quite often you may find that you can get started and then the modules do not open as they open in pop up windows.

Dealing with people who have already registered Obviously UK Online want people to use their existing login information rather than duplicate a learner by knowingly setting up a duplicate account. However, there may be a lot of people whose log in information and email address were generated from the old My Guide system therefore they will need a new email address and therefore would require new accounts, particularly if they had forgotten their password. When re-registering they will be unable to use the same username but this can be overcome by inserting a full stop after their First Name - e.g. Kathy. This has created a username with a full stop in between the first and last name, therefore making a new user.
A problem does arise if the learner tries to use the same email address for their new registration – the system will recognise that the email has already been assigned to another user ID. It is suggested that the work around is:
Either create a new email address and use this (however this can be time consuming and could confuse the learner) Register using a telephone number – this can then be used to text forgotten passwords (however using a generic password would work around this) Possibly consider registering using a postal address

Email address Ideally an email address is used to set up the account – however you can see that registrations can be made using telephone or postal address. However, it is suggested that we ensure everyone has an account that they can access prior to starting this course. They are going to need an email address to use the Universal Job Match. It is suggested that Gmail accounts are set up as these open easily on the Job Centre PCs and learners also have the Google Drive facility where they can store and amend their CVs online. There is a link on the Home tab that will guide the learner through how to set up an email address but as they have to create an account first (which requires an email address) it is not a lot of use. Also, at the time of writing, the links did not work. The images below demonstrate the screens that you meet regarding email addresses when registering. This screen is hopefully the one that everyone will use by inserting their email address.
If the learner selects the I don’t have an email link they can enter their telephone number

If they don’t have a phone number they can choose to be contacted via mail.
Completing Online Basics – complete 3 modules (the keyboard and mouse units do not count) The image below shows the screen once all the modules have been completed. Obviously there will be learners who need to complete the keyboard and mouse units so they will need to complete a total of 5 units.
Note that you now have the following options:
Open Online Basics – this will return you to the Online Basics course
Print my certificate – opens a PDF version of the document
Select Online Plus – take the learner to the Online Plus course
My learning tracker – provides the option to Continue my learning or Open the learning planner (not everyone will have a learning planner but this function will help them choose which modules to complete if there is something specific they want to learn and it will be added to the list of modules they need to complete)

Forgotten passwords If a learner forgets their password they will need access to their email account. Below is an image of someone trying to log in but who has forgotten their password – it is important to ensure that the learner enters their username rather than their email address.
Clicking onto the Forgotten your password link takes you to the next screen. Enter your username and then click onto the send new password button.

You now need to visit your email account and you should have received a message similar to the example below. Click onto the link.

Online Plus – 3 modules need to be completed Having completed Online Basics you are now ready to start the Online Plus Module. Once signed in your screen will resemble the example below – the quickest way to access Online Plus is to select the link at the left of the screen:
The following screen is displayed – it is suggested that if your learners are going to be using the Universal Job Match they complete the first three modules.
Select the Start Online Plus link to begin. 18/04/2013

Each module consists of several units – in the example below you can see that three of the units have been completed and one needs to be started.
On completion of the first of the modules (in this example Using Online Forms) – you are taken to a screen displaying the Online Plus modules, which now shows that we have completed one module and have five left to choose from. Remember though that you only have to complete a total of three modules so that we are going to choose the next course which is Job Hunting Online. In this example we have selected Job hunting online and the Next button is now displayed.
Click Next to start the new module.

The units for this module are now displayed. Please notice how useful this module will be for those people who need to learn how to use the Universal Job Match.
As the learner works through the course the completed modules will have a green tick next to them and a green bar showing that it has been Completed.

New Health Module As an additional action, we have also been asked to signpost registered and logged in learners to the new “health” section. This module aims to support people to improve their health and wellbeing through the internet, by helping them to improve their skills so they can use services like NHS Choices, as well as ordering prescriptions or providing feedback on services as they become more confident internet users To access this new section – the learner needs to be logged on and have the Home tab selected.
Scroll further down the screen and select the Health Online option.

A screen resembling this example screen is displayed. At the time of writing it is believed that learners simply need to access this area but of course they may find it useful to try some of the links to see what is available on the NHS website. UK Online are considering creating a course related to this topic.
Management Information Performance monitoring will be undertaken in one of two ways:
If you are registering learners using your own UKOLC ID it can be linked to our Centre ID number for the project which will enable us to track your performance. Note; if you wish to become a UK Online Centre Partner and therefore have your own ID number you can apply at: www.ukonlinecentres.com/join-us-.html. The process takes c.1-2 weeks. We can then add your Centre ID to the project.
If you are using our Centre ID (3421019) to register learners we need to be able to differentiate your delivery from our own and other partners who may be using our Centre ID. We therefore require a simple tracking spreadsheet to be completed (template available) which will record your learners’ user names and progress and enable us to reconcile this with the records against our Centre ID.
At the start of the project the linked MIS was likely to be ready by the end of April, it is suggested therefore that a record of all registrations are kept as this will provide a backup if the system has any issues or if you have any queries concerning payment.
Please note – the new website has only just been launched, therefore this handout may need to be updated on a regular basis. If you should find errors or changes please let Kathy Cockcroft know and she will arrange for the amendments to be made.
