A Street Library to Chat About

There is no doubt that the Street Library revolution is bringing neighbourhoods together. Now another library is joining the movement in our local area – the Chatterbox Street library.

This library is primarily for childrens’ books, however families with older siblings and adults are also welcome to contribute to the library as well. Keen to involve the local community in a project for their centre, the team at Chatterbox Early Learning had an abundance of books that had been donated by families that they wanted to share with the community. However, the logistics of a conventional library was too difficult, so a Street Library became the perfect solution. ‘We noticed that we have many people walking past our centre on a daily basis, such as the Albany Creek High School children, people walking their dogs etc. They always look in with a smile and a wave at the children, so we wanted them to feel a connection to us. We thought a street library would be a great way to connect them to us,’ said Kristine Landsberg, Educational Leader at Chatterbox Albany Creek. Following on from the latest AEDC data, it is shown that there has been an increase in vulnerability in the language domain in the community of Albany Creek. Keen to address this alarming statistic, the team at Chatterbox hope that their Street Library may encourage reading with young children and other members of the community. It is hoped that this in turn may help to increase language and literacy levels in the community. From our previous Street Library stories, we know that behind every great Street Library, is an even greater builder - and this could not be truer for this Library! The team at Chatterbox Early Learning saw the great work the Ridley Road Community

Fonzie Abbott Coffee

The Ridley Men are highly skilled in wood-working and are on the look out for projects of this nature. Community organisations are invited to contact the centre with requests. In addition, small repairs and restoration of wooden items are also a community service offered. For more information, contact ridleymen@gmail.com or see their story on page 8!

Mens Shed do in making wooden toys and products for the community, so they thought they would be the perfect choice to collaborate with. The library was a combined effort by at least four of the Ridley Road members who devoted their time and skill for its construction - a construction that will give the harsh Queensland climate a run for its money. As John from the Ridley Road Community Mens Shed tells us, practicalities had to be addressed when it came to the construction. ‘We built the library from Marine Ply to withstand the rain, the pine doors have clear perspex insets to allow the books to be viewed and the library itself is mounted at waist height to be easy access by the children and the roof.’ ‘Also, as the library takes advantage of the shade from a tree, we couldn't forget the mess the birds can make. Therefore, the roof is made from double sided aluminium so even the bird poo slides off!’ Although permanent signage will arrive shortly, the street library is now fully up and running. Why not drop by and have a browse, create a conversation and get the whole family reading. Musician Moving Up In The World

Alphonse de Lamartine once said, ‘Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends’.

Which reminds me of John Paul Friedrich Richter’s famous description of music being ‘the moonlight in the gloomy night of life’. Both quotes ring true—a sweet melody to our ears. But for nineteen-year-old Brisbane girl Zoe Quinn, music is much more than literature and moonlight. It is her life’s calling. Currently thriving as an indie-folk-pop guitarist and singersongwriter across our coast, Zoe’s roots stem from Eatons Hill, where she was born, raised, and educated. She attended Eatons Hill State School and Albany Creek State High School, before taking up full-time university studies at QUT. Her love for (and dedication to) belting songs and strumming her guitar has plunged Zoe head-first into a world of landing live shows and local gigs. Throughout 2021, Zoe regularly played at festivals and events across South-East Queensland, including the Hills Festival, Redcliffe KiteFest, Neurum Creek Music Festival, Anywhere Festival, and Southbank Parklands. She also made her musical mark appearing on the line-up for Redcliffe Festival of Sails, Moreton Bay Food & Wine Festival, Redfest, and the Ekka. She has supported bands at various venues, including Ric’s Backyard in Fortitude Valley, Bar Wunder in Toowoomba, and Goleby’s Basement in Ipswich. She performs regionally at the Sunshine Coast, Rainbow Beach and Bundaberg, and was a finalist in the 2021 Passport to Airlie Beach Competition. On top of all this, Zoe also carved up crowds at the 2021 Live & Local Microfestival in Samford Village, as well as Samford’s Christmas on Main Street two years in a row. I think it’s safe to say that Zoe sure knows how to put on a good show!

In fact, while at another live show at Woodfordia Bushtime, on 2021’s New Year’s Eve, Zoe launched her latest single, Walking Away. Produced by Cody McWaters (King Stingray, Kurilpa Reach), Walking Away is a heartbreakingly beautiful addition to Zoe’s cabinet of songs. In 2020, Zoe recorded and released her debut EP, Hearts on Sleeves, along with her follow up single Strange World, which were Zoe at the Woodford produced by Steve Kempnich Folk Festival (Powderfinger, Birds of Tokyo). All of her music has been recorded at Airlock Studios at Camp Mountain. And not to mention, it is all worth checking out. You can support Zoe by streaming her original music on Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud and other streaming platforms under the artist’s name, Zoe Quinn, and it can be downloaded from Bandcamp. Her website www. zoequinnmusic.com has further information about her music and upcoming gigs, and how she can be booked for private functions. You can also like her Facebook page “Zoe Quinn Music” and follow her on Instagram @zoequinnmusic. You can see this young legend in action, Zoe has an upcoming gig on April 15th as well. From 9am, Zoe will take the stage at the Redcliffe Festival of Sails. Or you can catch her playing at Anywhere Festival at Kumbartcho, in Eatons Hill, on June 1st.

Ridley Road Men Making a Difference

Men’s Sheds across the country provide a hub for men to connect, improve their well-being and reduce the risk of preventable health issues that may emanate from isolation - and the Ridley Road Community Mens Shed (RRCMS) is no different.

Centre Manager of Chatterbox Albany Creek, Alex Walford with members of the RRCMS John (Chairman), Peter and Valentina with Chatterbox students Jax, Madeline and Blake

• Group Coaching

• Private Lessons

Albany Hills State School • Fixtures All Saints Parish Primary school • Racquet Restringing Albany Creek • Pro Shop State School Aspley East State School St Dympnas Catholic Primary School Queen of Apostles Catholic School Good Shepherd Christian School

From its inception 12 years ago, the RRCMS’s mission is to support adult men by providing a safe and meaningful environment for activities in woodworking, social activities and supporting the community at large. Situated in the tranquil grounds of the Church of Resurrection on Ridley Road, Bridgeman Downs, the RRCMS provides a meeting place where men can feel comfortable and pursue their interests. Members have been proactive in and sought grants for its establishment and many improvements, resulting in there being three sheds now in operation. The group provide woodworking workshops for the development of skills or hobbies while making/repairing wooden items requested by the community. That small perhaps broken article can be restored to its former glory by the diligent and skilled craftsmanship of its members. Members are trained in the operation of the machinery and new members encouraged to learn new skills under their guidance. This friendly, helpful attitude is evident throughout the RRCMS and extends to their most important role. This is the provision of a Social Gather held weekly when numbers from all walks of life meet to enjoy one another’s company. Many men, when they retire, have great difficulty in adjusting to the retirement lifestyle and lose contact with their former workmates. The loss of a companionship is something sorely missed. As John Raine Chairman of the RRCMS explains. ‘Wives have often commented on what the Mens Shed has done to help ease their menfolk into retirement and get them out the house and our Social Gather provides them a place to freely converse on all matters,’ explains John. Although the RRCMS is a working Mens Shed, no pressure is ever exerted for men to participate in the working side things. ‘Many members are past the rigourous of making things and look forward to Morning Tea and companionship, which is perfectly fine!’ said John. So, if you feel a little lost at home in isolation, here might be the solution for you to share your interests and talents with others like yourselves. The men meet on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday morning. For more information, get in touch by emailing ridleymen@gmail.com or call 0407 630 567. Age is no barrier and mobility has been eased by a concrete path that was installed last year. Furthermore, if the Mens Shed can help with your community project or initiative, drop them a line!

You can't see it. You can't smell it. You can't feel it. But it is the main cause of tooth decay (caries), gum disease (periodontitis) and even tooth loss. Guided Biofilm Therapy from EMS identifies biofilm and thoroughly removes it. Studies show that biofilm increases the risk of Alzheimer's, heart disease, respiratory disorders, diabetes and more. Rail, Hail or Shine - the News for the Albany community unites! Creek Den An update from the Lions Club of Albany Creek

Despite COVID still living amongst us, we are starting to get back into the swing of things with a Bunnings BBQ on the 3rd April. If you are in the area pop in and say hi!

Representatives and Ministers from the Anglican, Catholic and Uniting Churches of Aspley and Albany Creek

Despite the soggy conditions, and the unlikely hood of the event even going ahead, a very successful World Day of Prayer Service was held on Friday, 4th March.

The Anglican, Catholic and Uniting churches of Aspley and Albany Creek were represented in the various prayers and the ecumenical spirit was alive! 110 people attended with the countries in focus being England, Wales and Northern Ireland. All Saints’ Parish provided music and dramatisation by school children during the Service, and a delicious morning tea was enjoyed afterwards. This year’s project for Northern Ireland is Bibles for Bubs, and the collection amounted to $1158.95. The churches would like to acknowledge and thank the whole community for thier generosity. Thank you! Next year’s host church is Aspley-Albany Creek Anglican Church.

We need to remember to still stay safe and take the necessary precautions when and where needed. Remember, masks are still required in all medical facilities, including chemist shops and pharmacies. Our area was also impacted by the recent floods and if we can be of assistance to anyone in the Albany Creek and Eatons Hill areas that were affected, please contact one of the numbers shown below. Depending on the request we may be able to help. Please if you see us out and about rattling the tin, give generously as this is to support our flood affected community members as well. We continue to seek new members to assist us in being able to help more around our neighbourhood with environmental projects as well as supporting our schools and other individuals and groups that may need a hand. If you would like to come and meet the members, our next dinner meeting will be on the 20th April at Hornets, Graham Road, Aspley at 7pm. Contact Secretary Graeme 0408 374 719 or President Kaye on 0477 212 242 for more details. On behalf of the Members of Albany Creek Lions Club, please take care and stay safe and let’s keep COVID away from our community.

A guide to educational facilities within North Brisbane

Learn About The Good Men Of Padua Padua College is the only school in Australia under the care of the Order of Friars Minor.

Inspired by the teachings of St Francis, the Franciscan Friars established Padua College as a school to cater for boys from Year 5 to Year 12. Over sixty-five years on, the College has grown to 1470 students and while there have clearly been some educational changes over this time, we still hold our Franciscan heritage very close to our heart. We deliver dynamic, innovative pedagogy in the three phases of learning from Year 5 to Year 12. We introduce our students to a wide range of belief systems and multi-faith disciplines, and to a Catholic and Franciscan world view. This vision is permeated by our values of Joy, Courtesy, Humility, Simplicity and Peace. Karate - Kicking Away Low Confidence in Kids

Research in kid’s sports links participation to better grades and self-esteem, long-term improvements in education, employment and lower obesity rates.

But the escalating time, travel and financial demands these days are pushing some parents to look to sports that are inclusive for the whole family. By this families can still reap the many benefits of sport mentioned above, however also gain quality time as a whole family. Karate is more than a sport and the benefits Karate can bring to adults and children alike is endless. Karate can improve your stamina, focus, coordination along with your fitness and overall health. It will teach life skills, how to defend yourself against others, including how to not put yourself in dangerous situations. All of this can improve self-confidence and selfesteem giving the student a great sense of self accomplishment. Luckily for local residents, we have a the principal QLD dojo of The International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF) in operation at Craigslea S.H.S and houses a variety of world class instructors. Head Sensei, Gavin Hill, who is a 6th degree black belt and has over 30years experience in Karate and serving as a Qld Police Officer, explains that they already have many families reaping the rewards of this training. ‘We have three families at the dojo at the moment, combinations of fathers and sons/daughters. It is quite inspiring to see how they enjoy sharing this healthy activity and having fun at the same time,’ said Sensei Gavin. The IOGKF caters for all age groups, and the instructors have found that children have generally developed the ability

Sensei Gavin and grading students from the 4 Brisbane dojos to concentrate and participate for the duration of the classes from age six upwards. Currently, they have a wide age range of students that enjoy the classes from age six to sixty. Here, students gain so much more than just physical skills. They gain self-respect and self-discipline which sees their behaviour change, their work improve, their ability to focus and problem solve increases, it provides so much more than just learning to punch and kick. The IOGKF run classes Monday and Wednesday from 5:30pm6:30pm (Kids) and 6:30pm to 8:00pm (Adults) This allows instructors to cater the teaching methods to the class so that the students get more out of each session. In addition, the IOGKF is offering the first month free at the Craigslea S.H.S dojo. If you would like to take part or have any queries call 0419 719 810. A Village of Learning

Genesis Christian College recently opened The Learning Village, which includes the complete refurbishment of Year 2 and 3 classrooms. The new precinct is set to amplify the delivery of high-quality curriculum in modern specialist facilities.

The Learning Village consists of eight new general learning areas (classrooms), each with its own unique colour scheme. Additionally, large flexible learning areas have been created that allow modern pedagogical approaches to be implemented while establishing enhanced connection between classes. Another important feature is the abundance of natural light to ‘bring the outdoors inside’. One of the most exciting aspects of the new development is the increased room sizes – going from a minimum of 68m2 to 90m2. Larger floor space means lots more room for collaborative learning, establishment of “learning zones”, introducing “learning communities” to connect four individual classrooms into flexible learning environments and two large “wet areas” for multi-faceted use with everything from creative play in mind through to room for parent collaboration and information sessions. Large glass sliding doors connect our classrooms and give teachers the ability to build relationships and differentiate learning groups. Design flexibility means we can effectively utilise teachers, teacher aides and parent helpers in the teaching and learning process – we believe in a whole ‘community of learners’. Critical to our design-thinking of the Learning Village is play-based and outdoor learning providing a very seamless

www.echo-news.com.au

&

connection between the natural and built environments; between outside and inside. The buildings are designed to look out onto our future purpose-built “outdoor learning environment” that will incorporate landscaping design to facilitate nature-play, curiosity and risky play. Intentional transition through large glass sliding doors will enable our youngest learners a natural flow from play-environment into constructivist learning. The Learning Village allows our teachers to design classrooms of their choosing. The new design will provide opportunities to our LOTE and Learning Enrichment and Extension programs through dedicated class spaces and by inclusively integrating these areas into students’ existing learning environments. At Genesis, we know that learning happens on a range of levels – individually, small groups, large groups and whole communities. The development of quality relationships at every level is essential to quality learning outcomes. Our Christian culture is visible and intrinsic to all that we do; with a very high level of pastoral care for our whole community being a focus. Our new Learning Village encapsulates all these important aspects of our approach to teaching and learning. Learning at Genesis has each individual child’s development at heart. We value a sense of wonder, discovery and inquiry in children, as this not only allows a deeper, more meaningful, intrinsic learning experience; but additionally allows for children to be extended into higher order and critical thinking skills. Volleyball - Much More Than Just A Sport At Bray Park

Over many years of establishing a healthy volleyball culture, Bray Park State High School now introduces the ‘Volleyball Excellence Program’. Commencing this year, the program is much more than a team of enthusiastic players, but is a graded subject for Year 9, 10 and 11 students. Run by a collaborative team of both experienced teaching staff and other health professionals; fitness, mental strength, attitude, on-court training and competitions, are all key components. The program is designed for each student to achieve sporting excellence, while academic and personal growth are equally important. Physiotherapist, Matthew Ashton of North West Physiotherapy, Everton Park, completes preliminary movement assessments of each athlete, providing the training team with a baseline of data. Students receive an individual report while Matthew continues to work with our coaching Volleyball team member with staff on injury prevention Physiotherapist Matthew Ashton programs and evidence-

The Year 10 Volleyball Team based practice. Gym and Yoga sessions work on strength, conditioning and co-ordination, ensuring each student’s longevity in the sport. Like any school subject, students are assessed on each semester of work. Two areas of both skill and fitness are of equal value toward a student’s result, and are assessed alongside the curriculum-based work, studied during the timetabled theory lessons. Participation and work ethic during training sessions and competitions is also considered, resulting in an A to E grading on report cards. Pride, passion, purpose and participation are the lofty and attainable goals set by Bray Park State High School in this dynamic ‘Volleyball Excellence Program’.

Easter Has Come Early to VIEW

An update from the Brendale Evening VIEW Club Our VIEW (Voice, Interests and Education of Women) Club have had another successful Dinner meeting. The themed Dinner was ‘Easter Has Arrived Early’ and members donated numerous Easter delights to be distributed into donated Easter Gift bags by our Events Committee members Gerry and Judy. During the night proceedings, the chocolate filled bags were then raffled off to members. The funds raised from this raffle, again going towards our Learning for Life Students. During Dinner, we were entertained by the guest speaker Libby Escolme Schmidt. Libby has written a book called Glamour in the Skies. She told us about her adventures in the sky as a BOAC Air Stewardess. Today we call these ladies Flight Attendants. The many stories she told kept us laughing well into the night. During the year at each meeting, we invite many guest speakers to come along and keep us informed as well as entertained. All this as we connect with each other over a lovely two course meal. Brendale Evening Club welcomes all visitors. We are a volunteer group of ladies giving their time to make a difference in our community. At the same time we enjoy social activities, and develop lasting friendships – all the while supporting the work of children’s education charity, The Smith Family. As a club we support The Smith Family by sponsoring disadvantaged children through the Learning for Life program and by contributing to the various appeals. VIEW has raised more than $40 million and members today sponsor more than 1,500 of the program's students. They also dedicate more than 70,000 volunteer hours annually. VIEW is a national self-governed women’s organisation formed by the children’s charity The Smith Family. It is a network of close to 300 clubs and over 14,000 women throughout Australia. Dinner meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at Aspley Hornets Football Club, 50 Graham Road, Carseldine, and a booking is required. So why not come along give us a try – we’d love to meet you! For further information email brendale.view@gmail.com or phone 0409 991 428.

Memory What Memory?

I spent over an hour the other day looking for my mobile. Frustrated, I searched my memory trying to recollect when and where I had last had it. I gave up in the end. It was only that wretched gadget’s sudden ringing that told me where it was. Increasingly of late, I have found myself murmuring ‘Where did I put it’ or ‘What have I come here for’ or saying to someone ‘I was going to tell you something, but I’ve forgotten what it was’ or even more embarrassing, repeating stories to people to whom I had already related them to. Being the age I’m at, the dreaded word dementia started to loom large in my thinking. Having personally witnessed the sad onset of dementia in friends had brought the focus of that dreaded disease to my doorstep. However I was somewhat reassured after having discussions with friends of a similar vintage, that they too had experienced similar problems of forgetfulness. ‘Don’t worry, it’s quite normal. As we age our brain cells don’t transmit messages as efficiently as they used to’, my mate Barry reassured me. I was impressed, but wanted to know where Barry had suddenly acquired this fantastic medical know-how from. ‘From the internet!’ was his response. With doubt replacing relief on my face, he quickly responded, ‘It’s logical, man. As other parts of your body wear, it’s only natural that the brain will experience some wear and tear as well. Externally, as your hair greys and your skin wrinkles, so too does your brain age!’ The more I pondered on Barry’s prognosis, the more sense it made. Evidently, scientists also know why so many of us have poor short-term memories. Tests have shown that we can visually only recall up to 4 items at a time. Therefore these maddening, frustratingly and annoying instances of short-term memory loss don’t necessarily add up to the onset of dementia. And I believe I proved it to myself with a little logical thought. Yesterday, I was in the kitchen, cutting up vegetables with my favourite knife, when my mobile rang. I was expecting an important call and because the mobile was upstairs in the office. I took off in haste, anxious not to miss the call. It was a long call demanding my complete attention and after it had finished, I returned to my culinary duties. But where was my knife? It wasn’t on the kitchen bench. In fact it was no where in sight.‘Oh no! Not again!’ I heard myself say, preparing once again, to curse my faulty memory. But then I paused. What had stopped me chopping up the veggies? The mobile ringing in the office, of course. That light-bulb moment told me where I would find the knife. It was lying on the desk, near the mobile, where I had put it. I had misplaced the knife due to a lack of concentration. My total focus was on answering the phone call and it’s content, so everything else including the knife, was forgotten. So now, understanding that my rusty brain needs exercise, I now regularly engage in brain activities such as crosswords, sudoku and reading. For as Barry and the Internet wisely says ` Use or Lose it!` www.echo-news.com.au

Thinking of living in a Manufactured Home Park?

By The Alliance of Manufactured Home Owners Inc. Development of Manufactured Homes (MH), and parks is increasingly becoming a lucrative venture for Queensland property developers and an option for senior Australians. More often these days, Manufactured Homes are established as over 50’s resort style living.

Many people considering this lifestyle do not understand the many issues that this type of home can bring. The home site is owned by the Park Owner/s, the homes are considered to be chattels and cannot be borrowed against. The park owners charge weekly site fees for each home owner. The average site fee for the majority of new parks at present is approximately $190 per week, and this usually will rise each year. There can be many hidden costs in these fees, and all residents should ensure they view a copy of the financial documents that outlines the items that are being used to ascertain the site fee. Living in a manufactured home/park should be taken with full consideration of what your site agreement states. This is the legal document that rules your residency, along with all the park rules. Many people do not realise that they can ask for changes or amendments in these agreements prior to signing. Negotiation is always available until you sign up. Do not be pressured into signing quickly, as once you sign this agreement, the rules in it are the daily governance of your life in the park. These are usually standard format and park owners will add certain items that may not be standard and must not come under the “prohibited terms” stated in the Act. There are few solicitors that have a good working knowledge of these contracts. Many will say that it is standard, and may not bother to go through it with the future in mind, so it is buyer beware! Remember, once you have signed up you cannot change anything unless you can prove it is illegal. Many issues can arise after you move in that come about as a result of not carrying out due diligence prior to buying into the park. Visit it at different times, try to speak to residents, check out any on line comments, and make sure it has what the glossy brochures show. If you wish to sell your home, your site agreement will have rules that you must abide by. One rule in most parks is that you cannot put a ‘For Sale’ sign outside your home, as the land is not yours. Some will say they do not allow private agents to come on site, this is not legal, and you need to know your rights. Again, make sure you are fully aware of the long term implications of this choice of home buying. It is not the same as being in a private home situation. There may be more noise, less outside space, paying for amenities you may not use, lack of privacy, and a totally different social atmosphere. Being the same age dynamic does not mean like-minded people. Manufactured Homes and residential parks are duly regulated in Queensland since the commencement of the Manufactured Homes (Residential Parks) Act 2003. There have been some amendments to the original Act. All people who contemplate this type of living should read this Act and be fully cognisant with the contents as this is the legislation that rules this housing sector. Knowing what you can and cannot do, what avenues are available to you to address any illegal or unfair actions is where our association can assist you in your decision making, or to support and give you advice after you have moved in. Alliance of Manufactured Home Owners Inc. has been www.echo-news.com.au

instrumental in liaising with residents, government ministers and working groups for the rights of those that live in these parks. We presently have three submissions and an e-petition before the government addressing changes in the Act on the matters of selling, older abuse, and site fee increases. We strive to ensure that residents who choose to live in a manufactured home / park have a voice, and that when they have a problem there is a place with knowledge, experience and is non-profit that can support them. We are not affiliated with any government or private body. People can check out our website on amho.com.au for all the information they need, or contact me directly, Rhonda Cooper President on amhocontact@gmail.com or 0418368567

HAPPY EASTER

I hope this Easter will give you, your family, and friends the time to share this special season together. This year has presented us with several challenges, and with the recent floods, it has certainly been devastating for parts of

Dickson News Peter DUTTON MP Federal Member for Dickson

A Message from Peter

Term one has gone quickly and Easter is rapidly approaching. I hope you are able to enjoy a break and stay safe on the roads if you’re heading away over the holidays. Recently, I was pleased to visit the Albany Creek Cricket Club and to attend their Presentation Day for the 2021/22 Season at Southpine Sports Complex, Brendale. The Hawks are a fantastic local club, and it is always nice to visit the players and parents who dedicate so much time to make it all possible. Whilst there, it was a good opportunity to see how work is progressing on the upgrades taking place at the the new football facilities. When completed there will be four new multipurpose fields, lighting, a multi-use clubhouse, carparking and other essentials. It will greatly expand the capacity of the current facilities. In addition to this, funding has also been secured to build seating at the Aspley Hornets AFL oval next door. There will be tiered seating, shade, a viewing deck and an adjoining accessibility ramp. Construction is due to start on this project in October 2022 and be completed in March 2023 ahead of the season.

These upgrades are being delivered with the local council and I am proud to have secured federal funding through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to help make them possible. At a federal level, unemployment for the month of February was down to 4% - the equal lowest level since 1974. 77,000 jobs were created, and significantly, the unemployment rate for women dropped to just 3.8%. The Morrison Government’s plan for lower taxes and cutting red tape to increase investment is key for us to keep on creating local jobs and growing the economy. This means we can continue to deliver record investments in health, aged care and other essential services.

Expanding the ADF

Recently, I was pleased to visit the Gallipoli Barracks at Enoggera with the Prime Minister to announce an increase in the number of Australian Defence Force Members. Keeping Australians safe in years to come is the highest priority for the Morrison Government. This investment will see an increase in the Defence workforce of approximately 18,500 by 2040. This growth will enable Defence to: • deliver new capabilities in coming years, including nuclear powered submarines; more ships; aircraft and advanced weapons • build warfighting capabilities in the evolving domains of space, and information and cyber • provide redundancy and resilience in critical areas of the workforce • increase support to delivery and enabling areas such as intelligence; capability and acquisitions; information, computing and communications infrastructure

Flood Support

The damage from flooding happened quickly, but rebuilding will take some time. It’s a big job ahead of us, however, seeing our community unite during hard times is always inspiring and we are working to come back even better. If you are in need of support, there is assistance available from the Federal Government that you may be eligible for. Support can be accessed via MyGov or by calling Services Australia on 180 22 66. For small businesses, not-for-profits, and community organisations there is a joint support package from the Federal and Queensland Governments which can be applied for at www.qrida.qld.gov.au.

What’s important to you?

Please get in touch with me at peter.dutton.mp@aph.gov.au or 3205 9977 to let me know your priorities for our community. Or you can drop in to my next mobile office. I am approaching 2,500 visits in my mobile office and have helped thousands of residents with local issues. If you see me out and about with my caravan, please drop in. Alternatively, you can drop by my office on Gympie Road in Strathpine during business hours. Or visit my website www.peterdutton.com.au for more information.
