U.S. Navy on Deck for Kedron Brook Clean Up It is projected that the clean up and rectification of Kedron Brook will be among the largest, most expensive, and most complicated projects Brisbane City Council is required to do to respond to the recent flood and storm activity.
With this in mind, it was fantastic to see the U.S. Navy arrive in the Port of Brisbane to aid the clean up efforts recently. Locally, we were lucky enough to have some helping hands from the U.S. Navy soldiers from the USS Frank Cable. The crew gave up their days off to join the Australian Army, Royal Australian Air Force, and Royal Australian Navy to help out with Brisbane’s biggest clean-up at Teralba Park at Everton Park. The crew from USS Frank Cable came from all over the United States and were committed to assisting the community build back. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and Councillor Andrew Wines were honoured to present the crew of the USS Frank Cable crew with a Brisbane City flag as a token of their thanks as pictured on the front page.

Destash And Donate With Discretion
Extra time at home throughout the pandemic has led to an increase in decluttering.
Whether you’ve held up a vase and asked if it sparks joy, embarked on your Swedish death cleaning journey, or binged ‘The Home Edit’ on Netflix, chances are you’ve found yourself with some items you no longer need. Deciding what to do with your excess items is often easier than determining what will make the cut. Many people choose to donate to a local charity, rather than contribute to landfill. As it is, around 6000 kilograms of clothing and textiles end up at the dump each year. Everton Park’s The Nest Community receives many donations each week from generous locals decluttering and reducing their craft stash. The Nest runs a haberdashery thrift store which sells donated textile craft and sewing supplies at significantly lower prices than big name retailers. The Nest Community Chief Executive Roz Fenson said haberdashery sales are the main income source for the charity. ‘We rent a beautiful old house which we use for the haberdashery downstairs, the workshop and meeting space upstairs, and our plant nursery out the back,’ Ms Fenson said. ‘Without the donations to the haberdashery we wouldn’t be able to pay the rent, so we’re incredibly grateful for the overwhelming community support we receive.’ The Nest Haberdashery accepts donations of clean, good condition fabric, yarn, embroidery and sewing threads, buttons, zips, hooks and needles, and sewing machines. In the past

decade, The Nest has diverted more than 107,000 metres of fabric from landfill. ‘Six days a week we have a team of volunteers sorting bags of donations, measuring fabric, detangling balls of yarn, rolling up ribbons, testing zips and examining everything that comes in the door,’ Ms Fenson said. ‘We would be extremely grateful if anyone donating to The Nest could help us by pre-sorting your items in a number of small bag or boxes rather than one large bag.’ Visit www.thenestcommunity.org.au/haberdashery to see what can be donated to The Nest Haberdashery. To get a bargain on supplies for your next craft project, visit The Nest Community at 720 South Pine Road Everton Park from 10am to 1pm Monday to Friday or 10am to 4pm Saturday.

Construction Commences for Veteran Support Hub
Rogerscorp along with RSL Queensland and Mates4Mates officially turn the soil on a new veteran support hub.
The developer, Rogerscorp have today officially commenced construction on the new Stafford Services Hub, a purpose built veteran and family support hub at Stafford in Brisbane’s north. The first sod was turned yesterday morning as part of the official turning of the sod ceremony, with the development now on its way to making a difference throughout Brisbane’s northside, which will play a significant role in providing critical services to this high-density community of veterans. In attendance were representatives of the Federal and State Governments, Brisbane City Council, RSL Queensland and Mates4Mates. The development will cost more than $25 million and is set to be a leading example of veteran healthcare. Stafford Services Hub will be located within the new Stafford commercial precinct at 274 Stafford Road, with construction due to be complete by the end of the year. 1500m2 of the top floor will be tenanted by the Veteran & Family Wellbeing Centre an initiative of RSL Queensland and Mates4Mates. The remaining ground floor space has preliminary agreements with another veteran organisation, and official tenancy to be confirmed soon. The first of its kind in South-East Queensland, the centre is designed to bring together a variety of services under one roof, helping make it easier for veterans and their families to find the support they need. Rogerscorp’s Director, Simon Rogers said ‘Stafford Services

Hub will become a central location for the veteran community, providing critical support, rehabilitation and sociability to current and former Australian Defence Force members and their families.’ RSL Queensland CEO, Robert Skoda said ‘Our new Veteran and Family Wellbeing Centre will provide accessible, inperson counselling, physical rehabilitation, employment support and mentorship support to current and former defence personnel and their families.’ ‘More veterans live in Queensland than any other state and RSL Queensland proudly delivers more veteran wellbeing services in Queensland than any other Australian ex-Services organisation. This model is a perfect example of how we are working to evolve veteran support services to ensure they are meeting the needs of our ever-changing community.’

Flooded, But Not Defeated!
Submitted by Mario De Marco, Secretary New Market Bocce Club. I would love to talk to you about our first competition of the year that took place on the 20th February, which incidentally went well. However, on a more important note, I’m sure we know someone that has been deeply affected by the floods. Our hearts go out to them and we hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Newmarket Bocce Club also had its share of problems. We had nearly three metres of water through the club. The water got into our clubhouse reaching the mezzanine floor. It was absolutely devastating. The pictures tell all. Please go the Newmarket Bocce Club page in Facebook to view more pictures and stories. Nevertheless, we will not be defeated. On Monday 28th February, a group of us got stuck into it over a couple of days. What a massive job, but we were determined to bring the club back to its previous condition. There is still no power, but hopefully we will get it back soon. We have spent a further few days cleaning and getting our playing courts up to scratch and are nearly there. As the club sits in a low-lying flood area, we cannot get flood insurance and therefore are not covered - like most sporting clubs. Yes we lost a bit, but of course that is nothing compared to the loss that some people and clubs had. Anyway enough of the statistics! The club would like to thank the following people who put their souls in keeping the club alive; Bill Brokken, Silvio Rotili, Mario De Marco, Tony Disipio, Natale Zaini, Gabriele Pasqualini, Anthony Lancuba and his four friends from the Streetlight Bridgeman team, Leo Thompson, Phillipe Antelme, Vince Saggiomo, Fausto Ceccato, Tony Servodio, Tony Giacoboni, Bruno Cappellone, Vic Alberti, Shane Horgan, Aurelio Fioravanti and Sue Thompson who provided a great morning tea on Wednesday 1st March. Well done. The Newmarket Bocce Club is the last remaining bocce club in Brisbane. We are proud to be still standing. All we ask is for your support. Our 2022 committee is President Tony Di Sipio, Vice President Silvio Rotili, Treasurer Bill Brokken, Secretary Mario De Marco and committee members Leo Thompson, Tony Servodio, Vince Saggiomo and Phillip Antelme. To get involved, or for more information about the Newmarket Bocce Club call Tony on 0418731423 or Mario on 0403257325

Bowl Towards Your Health at Enoggera
Have you ever thought of starting the wonderful game of Bowls, but had no clue where to start?
Bowling can provide many health benefits which include; improved fitness, coordination and skill development along with improved mental wellbeing and, of course, there is the social benefit of feeling part of a community. Here we have outlined just a few of the health benefits of playing lawn bowls: Muscle strengthening: As you walk with the extra weight of a bowling ball in your hands, you flex and stretch muscles. This helps to improve flexibility, mobility and core strength. Reduces the risk of contracting some diseases: It is well known that having a sedentary lifestyle is one of the main factors that can lead to a heart problem. Lawn bowling can reduce the risk of contracting a heart attack or a stroke, as it helps your body to utilise oxygen better and contributes to good blood circulation and blood pressure. Coordination and precision: Playing lawn bowls requires precision, as the main objective is to get as many of your bowls as close as possible to the ‘jack’. Therefore, this activity involves concentration and enhancement of hand and eye coordination. Mental health: Lawn bowling can help your mental health as it contributes to reduce stress and improve your mood. Exercise makes you release endorphins, which trigger a positive feeling in your body, making you feel good about yourself. Social interaction: The simplicity of the game and the low-impact exercise it involves makes it attractive for many people to play. Friends
and family can play together as it can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age, gender or physical condition. If you are looking to get started in the world of bowls, or are looking for a new club to join, look no further than the Enoggera Bowls Club. This friendly club welcomes all members and visitors and is conveniently located in the Pickering Place Complex behind the Enoggera Train station. Providing a unique bowling experience, the club boasts world class greens with bowlers having the ability to play rain, hail or shine, along with being protected from the harsh Queensland sun, thanks to a roofing system covering both greens. Night owls can also rejoice as the club boasts a high tech lighting system, allowing for bowls to be played morning and night. To keep bowlers hydrated and fed, Cafe 63 is attached to the club and offers a fully air conditioned place to enjoy the delicious food and drinks on offer. So if you are looking for a fun way to stay healthy, or would like to make some new friends, Why not give the Club Pro Brad a call on 0477 443 255 for more details about Barefoot Bowls or the competitions on offer? Professional tooth cleaning is necessary to deliver a beautiful smile and to maintain healthy teeth. It removes harmful plaque (called biofilm) on teeth and gums. Dental biofilm is insidious. You can't see it. You can't smell it. You can't feel it. But it is the main cause of tooth decay (caries), gum disease (periodontitis) and even tooth loss. Guided Biofilm Therapy from EMS identifies biofilm and thoroughly removes it. Studies show that biofilm increases the risk of Alzheimer's, heart disease, respiratory disorders, diabetes and more. The Book Swap helps raise money for the ILF
Mitchelton Pre-Schooling Centre is a keen supporter of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF).
The Great Book Swap is a wonderful initiative to raise money so that ILF can purchase culturally relevant books for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Many families took the opportunity to explain to their children why they were bringing in a book/books from home to add to the growing collection. When the week for the Great Book Swap arrived, many children perused the extensive display to choose ‘the one’. When children added gold coin/s to the donation box, it was a great way for children to experience helping children. It was a win/win scenario for all. Parents with an extensive collection of children’s books at home were able to reduce and contribute in a positive way, children increased their understanding of helping others, and the ILF was able to buy appropriate books for children in different communities. In addition, left over books were donated to Picabeen Community Centre, a local organisation supporting local families. For more information about Mitchelton Pre-Schooling Centre, why not pop along to their Open Day on Saturday 4th June? More details are on the advertisement below.

Karate - Kicking Away Low Confidence in Kids
Research in kid’s sports links participation to better grades and self-esteem, long-term improvements in education, employment and lower obesity rates.
But the escalating time, travel and financial demands these days are pushing some parents to look to sports that are inclusive for the whole family. By this families can still reap the many benefits of sport mentioned above, however also gain quality time as a whole family. Karate is more than a sport and the benefits Karate can bring to adults and children alike is endless. Karate can improve your stamina, focus, coordination along with your fitness and overall health. It will teach life skills, how to defend yourself against others, including how to not put yourself in dangerous situations. All of this can improve self-confidence and selfesteem giving the student a great sense of self accomplishment. Luckily for local residents, we have a the principal QLD dojo of The International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF) in operation at Craigslea S.H.S and houses a variety of world class instructors. Head Sensei, Gavin Hill, who is a 6th degree black belt and has over 30years experience in Karate and serving as a Qld Police Officer, explains that they already have many families reaping the rewards of this training. ‘We have three families at the dojo at the moment, combinations of fathers and sons/daughters. It is quite inspiring to see how they enjoy sharing this healthy activity and having fun at the same time,’ said Sensei Gavin. The IOGKF caters for all age groups, and the instructors have found that children have generally developed the ability

Sensei Gavin and grading students from the 4 Brisbane dojos to concentrate and participate for the duration of the classes from age six upwards. Currently, they have a wide age range of students that enjoy the classes from age six to sixty. Here, students gain so much more than just physical skills. They gain self-respect and self-discipline which sees their behaviour change, their work improve, their ability to focus and problem solve increases, it provides so much more than just learning to punch and kick. The IOGKF run classes Monday and Wednesday from 5:30pm6:30pm (Kids) and 6:30pm to 8:00pm (Adults) This allows instructors to cater the teaching methods to the class so that the students get more out of each session. In addition, the IOGKF is offering the first month free at the Craigslea S.H.S dojo. If you would like to take part or have any queries call 0419 719 810. Making The Most Of Those Valuable Early Learning Years
While every home is different, there is one thing they all have in common: the desire to give their children the best possible start in early education.
Recently, Gumtree Cottage Everton Park, a well-known and trusted childcare brand in the local community for 27 years, rebranded to Milestones Early Learning Everton Park. Milestones Early Learning is a well-respected childcare brand within the Lifelong Learning Centres group, owned and operated by Affinity Education Group - Australia’s third largest provider of early education and care, operating more than 160 approved Lifelong Learning long day care, kindergarten, preschool and OSHC centres across Australia. As children grow, they become more curious about the world around them and are driven to learn and explore. It’s important to support this curiosity and nurture a love of lifelong learning by exposing them to as many rich learning opportunities as possible. ‘Research shows the first five years are a critical stage of development for children. Each stage of a child’s development is different, and their education journey should reflect this,’ says Milestones Early Learning Everton Park Centre Manager Tina Barbour, who has worked at the centre for 12 years. ‘The Milestones Early Learning program emphasises ageappropriate experiences that lay the foundations for lifelong learning,’ she continues. The Lifelong Learning approach begins with a focus on baby
sensory play and building secure attachments, so our littlest learners develop the confidence they need to explore. This is followed by exciting play-based toddler programs featuring opportunities to develop literacy, numeracy, and early socialisation skills. Children aged from 3-years old can join our Kindergarten programs, developing the school readiness skills they need to thrive in Primary School. Milestones Early Learning Everton Park will continue to provide the same high-quality early education and care that the community has grown to love and trust. Being part of the Lifelong Learning Centres Network provides educators with access to training, quality reviews and resources. To learn more about the rich learning opportunities available at Milestones Early Learning Everton Park, book a family tour on our website at evertonpark.milestones.com.au or contact Tina on 3353 0244 to arrange a free stay-and-play session. You can find Milestones Everton Park at 124 Rogers Parade East.

Giving our youngest citizens a big voice News Report
The Floods!
Written by Billy C and Oscar B both 10 years old from St Williams School Grovely As we all know, in Brisbane and all of South East Queensland there was continuous, torrential and devastating rainfall for about a week. This resulted in floods due to the occurrence of more than two thirds of Brisbane's average rainfall. Pontoons and boats travelled down the Brisbane River at an alarming speed. Even a crane on a pontoon dislodged itself and floated perilously towards several ferry terminals. Effects of the Flood The effects of this flood were significant. Schools, roads and businesses were closed because of dangerous conditions. Some people were locked inside their homes for days and 40000 homes lost power. One of the dams in the north west suburbs, Enoggera Dam, was at 100% capacity before the great rains came. After the rain it rose to 244% and the dam spilled over the wall, for the first time in history and flooded many of the houses below. Energex were forced to cut the power in homes to minimise electrical accidents and some people had to evacuate their homes due to safety concerns. Support for the Victims
Students from St William’s School in Keperra interviewed Mr Meikle, the grounds keeper who is an SES volunteer. They discovered that he worked tirelessly throughout the recent floods to support people in need in the community. In Mr Meikle's opinion, these floods were worse than the 2011 floods due to more areas being submerged. He explained that role of SES volunteers was to attend people’s houses that were predicted to flood and offer them sandbags to divert the water from flowing into their homes. If the house was already inundated, they would go in boats and rescue people by taking them to safety. Page 16 - April 2022, The Everton Echo
Oscar B, Ollie C, Billy C and Rose NW Clean Up Response Luckily, we are through the worst of the floods now and we are just working on the recovery. We continue to have a bit of work to do. The clean up is now taking place and it has proven to be a long process. Weeks later, many organisations have started the giant clean up, such as the Mud Army 2.0 and the Red Cross. Many people may not have heard of the Mud Army 2.0. The Mud Army was created by the Brisbane City Council. They were made up of volunteers that support with the clean up all around Brisbane. The Red Cross also play a significant part in the flood response because they are helping bring the community back by fundraising for the people that are now homeless.
Please access the video interview with Mr. Meikle through this QR Code. The salty spray whisps through the air. A light wind blows, picking up sand and throwing it at my legs as it goes. Waves slap against the sides of the rocks, curling over the edge dangerously close to where I stand. The sea is grey and murky, and the clouds stretch far out into the horizon. From the tip of the rocky point, I feel as close to the sea and the sky as I am to the rocks beneath my feet. Out here, I am at the mercy of the elements. I am attuned to the ocean’s force, to the changing tides and the crashing and breaking of the waves. I am at one with the sea. Graceful yet assertive, its presence pulls everything around it into a never-ending orbit, a chain that cannot be broken. It has a strength that resonates deep beneath these rocks, like the echoes of thundering waves. I cannot bring myself to look away, I am transfixed by the rolling waves. The unrevealing inky-grey water ripples mysteriously around the rocks, creating obscure but wonderful patterns that run until the shore, constantly disrupted by the crashing waves. My heart beats to the rhythm of the pounding waves, my mind entwined with the ocean.

Rail, Hail or Shine - the Celebrating 100 years community unites! of the Smith Family
Representatives and Ministers from the Anglican, Catholic and Uniting Churches of Aspley and Albany Creek
Despite the soggy conditions, and the unlikelihood of the event even going ahead, a very successful World Day of Prayer Service was held on Friday, 4th March.
The Anglican, Catholic and Uniting churches of Aspley and Albany Creek were represented in the various prayers and the ecumenical spirit was alive! 110 people attended with the countries in focus being England, Wales and Northern Ireland. All Saints’ Parish provided music and dramatisation by school children during the Service, and a delicious morning tea was enjoyed afterwards. This year’s project for Northern Ireland is Bibles for Bubs, and the collection amounted to $1158.95. The churches would like to acknowledge and thank the whole community for thier generosity. Thank you! Next year’s host church is Aspley-Albany Creek Anglican Church.

TAX MATTERS
from local experts Valor, 2 Glenlee St, Arana Hills
In recent times, we have seen an increase in Trades working under an ABN. Regardless of the issues around whether they should, or should not, be under an ABN, it is important to get the basics right when starting out. Often these Trades are young persons receiving more money than they have before. This can lead to all sorts of issues when the GST is not allowed for, or Income Tax is not considered. Those who get it right open a separate bank account to transfer 10% of every invoice payment they receive to cover for GST they will have to pay. Some even open a separate bank account to transfer a sum for income tax to cover themselves for tax time. Spend too much on fancy cars or toys and you can end up with a tax bill that may take years to pay off. If you are in this situation, or are looking to work under an ABN, pop in and see us so we can run through what you should do to avoid getting into debt. The ATO in recent weeks has focused on Trust Distributions under section 100A of the Income tax Act. Section 100A was introduced in 1978 to deal with blatant trust stripping arrangements. In recent times, Trust Distributions have come under the scrutiny of the ATO with increased audit activity with the Commissioner being able to go back as many years as he likes. The increased focus appears to be on distributions to adult children and grandparents. If you are operating through a trust and are unsure of your obligations, then I would suggest you see us.

Easter Tricks and Tips at The Cake Decorators Club

Aged Care Provider Moves to Arana Hills
Just Better Care Brisbane North, our locally loved Aged Care provider, has recently relocated from their Kallangur office to Arana Hills.
Comprised of a dedicated team of 90 Community Support Professionals, Just Better Care is committed to improvingpeople’s lives. The business has organically flourished from its small roots to establishing a town-wide, solid presence in the disability and aged care sector. They provide high-quality in-home care and disability support services, administer Home Care Package funding, are customer choice oriented, and offer NDIS Plan Management. Their primary focus is ensuring that everyone can live independently and be able to get out and about in the community. The Just Better Care Brisbane North team at their new premises in Arana Hills Last month, it was decided that Just Better Care strategically relocate one of their offices to 1/6 Patricks Road, Arana Hills. The grand move occurred the week of the Brisbane floods—super convenient, right—and so many staff were stranded or unable to get around as expected. They have signage underway and will be fully branded in the coming weeks. What’s more, the building is across the street from the Arana Hills Plaza—home to Coles, Aldi, The Reject Shop, Stellarossa, and more. How (genuinely) convenient! Just Better Care is actively recruiting for additional field staff and welcomes all enquiries. As such, they are hosting an Open Day on Saturday 30th April from 10am till 1pm, with the whole community invited to call in and meet the friendly team. Susanne, whose career at Just Better Care stands at 7 years and counting, reveals, “We believe that good business is based on good relationships and across both sites we have worked hard to connect with like-minded people to develop and engage in personalised and enticing customer experiences.” Susanne, along with the rest of her colleagues, ensures that the relocation of the main office to Arana Hills will allow them to strengthen existing relationships and widen their footprint as a values-based company. “Needless to say, our existing geographical reach and associated services provided across the Brisbane City and Moreton Bay Regional Councils will not be impacted by the move, given our office and personal support professionals already flexibly work across Brisbane’s Northside.” We wish them all the best for their next chapter.

It’s All About Art in Aspley
Calling all creatives! Did you know we have a local art group right on our doorstep that has been around for almost 50 years?!
The Aspley Art Group (AAG) has a long history after being founded in 1973. Its members are all talented local artists who work in a range of styles and mediums which include oils, acrylics, watercolours, pastels as well as pen and ink and a variety of sketching mediums. The group regularly enjoy showcasing their art at local shopping centres, as well as other venues when available, such as an annual exhibition at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital. The AAG donates regularly to the RBWH Research Foundation and the annual show adds additional funds from a percentage of all paintings sold. Tutorials are arranged at intervals throughout the year, providing opportunity for artists to try out new ideas and skills. And painting together after monthly meetings is often on the agenda. New members are always welcome! More information about membership and the group’s activities and artists is available on the AAG website (www.aspleyartgroup.org) or contact infor@aspleyartgroup.org. Members derive great pleasure in producing their art and hope they can provide enjoyment for others. That is their greatest reward. All art displayed at the Groups’ Shows or Exhibitions is for sale, which is shown in the advertisement on the right.

Coffee with my favorite (only) grandson 10 YEARS IN PARLIAMENT
This month I celebrate the 10th anniversary of my election to the Queensland Parliament. I love my community and there is still plenty to achieve. My passion, enthusiasm and energy remain high to serve the Everton electorate and to make Queensland an even better place to live, work and play. I’m pictured here with the eight other colleagues that were elected on the same day. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the people of the Everton electorate for their support and for the opportunity to serve as your local member.
HAPPY EASTER
I hope this Easter will give you, your family, and friends the time to share this special season together. This year has presented us with several challenges, and with the recent floods, it has certainly been devastating for parts of

our community. I’ve visited many streets, clubs and businesses and have been so inspired by the way people have reached out to give each other a hand. It’s at these times we take stock and appreciate the people in our lives and how a community can come together and support one another. I hope you can celebrate this Easter with those who are closest to you and all the best to you and your loved ones throughout this Easter season.

THE FERNY REPORT by Mark Furner M.P.
State Member for Ferny Grove Ferny Grove Central Update
hardworking crew from Broad Construction was able to clear the water however and get back to work within days. Indeed, Broad Construction have done a great job mitigating the delays which have been caused by the La Ni a weather cycle we have been experiencing this summer and have managed to recoup a great deal of lost time by sourcing extra resources, re-sequencing work and re-commencing work earlier than originally anticipated over the Christmas break. Once complete, Ferny Grove Central will increase commuter car parking at the station by more than 43% and will provide hundreds of much needed local jobs. The multi-level carpark, which is the section currently under construction, is still on track to be finished by the end of this year – with stage two of the construction to commence shortly after.
Local Schools Infrastructure Boost
Broad Construction Site Manager Matt showing me the progress of Ferny Grove Central. The Ferny Grove Transit Oriented Development, which will be known locally as Ferny Grove Central, is currently full steam ahead. There has been a great deal of extra rain over the Christmas/New Year period – even before the rain and flooding event of February and March which filled the basement carpark area of the site with around two metres of water. The
St Andrews Primary School invited me to conduct a civics class recently. The questions and insights of the students were amazing! Ferny Grove Electorate Schools from Ferny Hills to Ashgrove have experienced a massive infrastructure boost in recent years. The Palaszczuk Government believes investing in education is a must and I will continue to fight for a better future for our kids. Below is just a snapshot of what is happening next for our fantastic schools! Mitchie Special School is undergoing its largest upgrade since the school opened fifty years ago. Mitchie Special School has performed an essential role in our community for many years. Now, with the construction of new amenities, classrooms, and admin, it will continue to serve our region for decades to come. Oakleigh State School, which opened in 1934, is undergoing a significant influx of students as young families move back into Ashgrove in large numbers. At the 2020 election, I campaigned to deliver a new hall to Oakleigh and today I am pleased to announce the plans have been drawn up and construction is expected to begin this year. Furthermore, a new two-storey, four-classroom building will also be built this year to meet the growing demand by young families for the quality education Oakleigh has become famous for. Patricks Road State School, which is Ferny Grove’s largest primary school, is the site of a jointly funded state and federal hall-extension project. The plans have been drawn up and the project is ready to go. I have been advised the project will go to tender as soon as the Federal Education Minister signs off on the contract. I am hopeful this will happen before the federal election so construction can begin ASAP. www.echo-news.com.au
