Falcons Fly High for Men’s Mental Health Over the last two years we have been forced to change the way we live. In many cases it has changed us. Covid hasn't been good to anyone and Mental Health has taken its toll, more so than ever.

Men's mental health has always been a quiet issue in society, with many men's mental health issues going unrecognised for a long time. We want to make sure we can openly help our mates, family and each other. There is a growing recognition that mental health concerns are in fact a serious issue and the culture of dismissal is a dangerous approach. However, many of the most common indicators that there’s a problem still go unnoticed by many men. This year, the Ferny Grove Falcons Masters AFL will be supporting MensLine Australia, a charity dedicated to helping with men's mental health. Their Masters team registration fees will include a donation to MensLine Australia and they will proudly wear their logo on the footy jumpers. In the last two years, the Ferny Grove Masters have been a small number of men that have gathered together on Wednesday nights to train and enjoy footy, as well as dinner some nights. This has created a team that will look out for each other. It's now time to grow this team and help bring together a great culture of support for men to enjoy playing and training AFL, and to bring awareness and help to MensLine Australia. If you would like to get involved with the Masters team eitheras a player or in a support role, please contact masters@ ferngrovefalcons.org.au. Furthermore, for more details about MensLine Australia, visit mensline.org.au. Additionally, if

you need support, call their counselling team on 1300 78 99 78. The team welcome all male players (aged over 35) of all abilities. Never kicked a footy? No worries, they will help you! The Masters train once a week on a Wednesday night from 6pm - 7pm at Falcon Park, Top of Tramway Street, Ferny Grove. They also play fortnightly during the season.

Casting Off in the Community

Residents in The Hills District are lucky enough to have a vast variety of community organisations to join - one of which is The Arana Leagues Fishing Club.

It is of no surprise that the club has been ‘hooking up’ members in the sport of angling for nearly 45 years and is still going strong thanks to their variety of fishing trips. The club offers 14 opportunities to go fishing in the estuaries and on the islands of Southeast Queensland and Club members vote on a fishing calendar each year with were they would like to go. There is also an internal competition put together for members based on a combination of points per fish and bonus points for the largest three fish in each species, so it is not always the angler with the most fish who wins the day, but often the angler with the most variety in their catch. The Club Executive working on the 2022 Fishing Calendar. Left to right – Club Captain Geoff Crandell, Club Vice President However, it is not all about fishing , the club can Gayle Rook and Club President Peter Savage be a great place to forge friendships and find companionships. One activity that is always popular amongst members is the annual trophy day which is a great social occasion held in March each year. Members get to reminisce on their successes, and those that got away! Prizes and trophies are also up for grabs based on members catches and there is the opportunity to win the annual Lucky Door Prize. The club also has a great community ethos. Through their fund raising, they have the ability to subsidise members on some of their trips to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to fish some of the great locations in Southeast Queensland like Stradbroke, Moreton and Fraser Islands. People from all walks of life are welcome at the Arana Leagues Fishing Club - whether you are male, female, a novice at fishing or an expert - everyone is welcome! Also age is no barrier too and Juniors and Seniors are welcomed! If you would like to join the club on a trip, please phone Club President Peter on 0448 784 387.

A Celebration of Community Spirit

It’s been a tough start to 2022 for many childcare centres. Between COVID-19 and the floods, many childcare centres have struggled to keep their doors open for local families who rely on their services.

However, last month some local educators held a morning tea to say a special thanks to families whose compassion and support has helped them triumph in the face of adversity. The team at C&K Arlington Drive Childcare Centre, Arana Hills were past the impact of COVID-19, but then came the floods! Eight out of the centre’s ten rooms were affected by water damage, leaving not only a huge clean-up but also a strong need for emotional support for the children and their families. Childcare Educators, together with kitchen staff, hosted a wonderful breakfast this week, attended by local Councillor Matt Constance, to say ‘thank you’ to the local community for their kindness and ongoing support. Centre Director, Peta Bartlett, said while the team’s main priority has been supporting the children, encouraging their resilience and nurturing their ideas and understanding of the world around them, it was the families who pulled together alongside them to display an elite model of community spirit. ‘We are so proud of the strong, rich community relationships we have at C&K Arlington Drive and are very grateful for the kindness and understanding families have shown through the challenges of the past few months,’ said Ms Bartlett. ‘How we respond to situations like these is so important, and I believe together our educators and families have promoted a culture of partnership and kindness that models strong and powerful leadership for our future generation,’ she said. As you can see from the images on the right, the event was a huge success with lots of smiling faces present!

Bowl Towards Your Health at Enoggera

Have you ever thought of starting the wonderful game of Bowls, but had no clue where to start?

Bowling can provide many health benefits which include; improved fitness, coordination and skill development along with improved mental wellbeing and, of course, there is the social benefit of feeling part of a community. Here we have outlined just a few of the health benefits of playing lawn bowls: Muscle strengthening: As you walk with the extra weight of a bowling ball in your hands, you flex and stretch muscles. This helps to improve flexibility, mobility and core strength. Reduces the risk of contracting some diseases: It is well known that having a sedentary lifestyle is one of the main factors that can lead to a heart problem. Lawn bowling can reduce the risk of contracting a heart attack or a stroke, as it helps your body to utilise oxygen better and contributes to good blood circulation and blood pressure. Coordination and precision: Playing lawn bowls requires precision, as the main objective is to get as many of your bowls as close as possible to the ‘jack’. Therefore, this activity involves concentration and enhancement of hand and eye coordination. Mental health: Lawn bowling can help your mental health as it contributes to reduce stress and improve your mood. Exercise makes you release endorphins, which trigger a positive feeling in your body, making you feel good about yourself. Social interaction: The simplicity of the game and the low-impact exercise it involves makes it attractive for many people to play. Friends

and family can play together as it can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age, gender or physical condition. If you are looking to get started in the world of bowls, or are looking for a new club to join, look no further than the Enoggera Bowls Club. This friendly club welcomes all members and visitors and is conveniently located in the Pickering Place Complex behind the Enoggera Train station. Providing a unique bowling experience, the club boasts world class greens with bowlers having the ability to play rain, hail or shine, along with being protected from the harsh Queensland sun, thanks to a roofing system covering both greens. Night owls can also rejoice as the club boasts a high tech lighting system, allowing for bowls to be played morning and night. To keep bowlers hydrated and fed, Cafe 63 is attached to the club and offers a fully air conditioned place to enjoy the delicious food and drinks on offer. So if you are looking for a fun way to stay healthy, or would like to make some new friends, Why not give the Club Pro Brad a call on 0477 443 255 for more details about Barefoot Bowls or the competitions on offer? Professional tooth cleaning is necessary to deliver a beautiful smile and to maintain healthy teeth. It removes harmful plaque (called biofilm) on teeth and gums. Dental biofilm is insidious. You can't see it. You can't smell it. You can't feel it. But it is the main cause of tooth decay (caries), gum disease (periodontitis) and even tooth loss. Guided Biofilm Therapy from EMS identifies biofilm and thoroughly removes it. Studies show that biofilm increases the risk of Alzheimer's, heart disease, respiratory disorders, diabetes and more. A guide to educational facilities within North Brisbane

Learn About The Good Men Of Padua Padua College is the only school in Australia under the care of the Order of Friars Minor.

Inspired by the teachings of St Francis, the Franciscan Friars established Padua College as a school to cater for boys from Year 5 to Year 12. Over sixty-five years on, the College has grown to 1470 students and while there have clearly been some educational changes over this time, we still hold our Franciscan heritage very close to our heart. We deliver dynamic, innovative pedagogy in the three phases of learning from Year 5 to Year 12. We introduce our students to a wide range of belief systems and multi-faith disciplines, and to a Catholic and Franciscan world view. This vision is permeated by our values of Joy, Courtesy, Humility, Simplicity and Peace. Karate - Kicking Away Low Confidence in Kids

Research in kid’s sports links participation to better grades and self-esteem, long-term improvements in education, employment and lower obesity rates.

But the escalating time, travel and financial demands these days are pushing some parents to look to sports that are inclusive for the whole family. By this families can still reap the many benefits of sport mentioned above, however also gain quality time as a whole family. Karate is more than a sport and the benefits Karate can bring to adults and children alike is endless. Karate can improve your stamina, focus, coordination along with your fitness and overall health. It will teach life skills, how to defend yourself against others, including how to not put yourself in dangerous situations. All of this can improve self-confidence and selfesteem giving the student a great sense of self accomplishment. Luckily for local residents, we have a the principal QLD dojo of The International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF) in operation at Craigslea S.H.S and houses a variety of world class instructors. Head Sensei, Gavin Hill, who is a 6th degree black belt and has over 30years experience in Karate and serving as a Qld Police Officer, explains that they already have many families reaping the rewards of this training. ‘We have three families at the dojo at the moment, combinations of fathers and sons/daughters. It is quite inspiring to see how they enjoy sharing this healthy activity and having fun at the same time,’ said Sensei Gavin. The IOGKF caters for all age groups, and the instructors have found that children have generally developed the ability

Page 14 - April 2022, The Hills Echo

Sensei Gavin and grading students from the 4 Brisbane dojos to concentrate and participate for the duration of the classes from age six upwards. Currently, they have a wide age range of students that enjoy the classes from age six to sixty. Here, students gain so much more than just physical skills. They gain self-respect and self-discipline which sees their behaviour change, their work improve, their ability to focus and problem solve increases, it provides so much more than just learning to punch and kick. The IOGKF run classes Monday and Wednesday from 5:30pm6:30pm (Kids) and 6:30pm to 8:00pm (Adults) This allows instructors to cater the teaching methods to the class so that the students get more out of each session. In addition, the IOGKF is offering the first month free at the Craigslea S.H.S dojo. If you would like to take part or have any queries call 0419 719 810. Giving our youngest citizens a big voice News Report

The Floods!

Written by Billy C and Oscar B both 10 years old from St Williams School Grovely As we all know, in Brisbane and all of South East Queensland there was continuous, torrential and devastating rainfall for about a week. This resulted in floods due to the occurrence of more than two thirds of Brisbane's average rainfall. Pontoons and boats travelled down the Brisbane River at an alarming speed. Even a crane on a pontoon dislodged itself and floated perilously towards several ferry terminals. Effects of the Flood The effects of this flood were significant. Schools, roads and businesses were closed because of dangerous conditions. Some people were locked inside their homes for days and 40000 homes lost power. One of the dams in the north west suburbs, Enoggera Dam, was at 100% capacity before the great rains came. After the rain it rose to 244% and the dam spilled over the wall, for the first time in history and flooded many of the houses below. Energex were forced to cut the power in homes to minimise electrical accidents and some people had to evacuate their homes due to safety concerns. Support for the Victims

Students from St William’s School in Keperra interviewed Mr Meikle, the grounds keeper who is an SES volunteer. They discovered that he worked tirelessly throughout the recent floods to support people in need in the community. In Mr Meikle's opinion, these floods were worse than the 2011 floods due to more areas being submerged. He explained that role of SES volunteers was to attend people’s houses that were predicted to flood and offer them sandbags to divert the water from flowing into their homes. If the house was already inundated, they would go in boats and rescue people by taking them to safety. Page 16 - April 2022, The Hills Echo

Oscar B, Ollie C, Billy C and Rose NW Clean Up Response Luckily, we are through the worst of the floods now and we are just working on the recovery. We continue to have a bit of work to do. The clean up is now taking place and it has proven to be a long process. Weeks later, many organisations have started the giant clean up, such as the Mud Army 2.0 and the Red Cross. Many people may not have heard of the Mud Army 2.0. The Mud Army was created by the Brisbane City Council. They were made up of volunteers that support with the clean up all around Brisbane. The Red Cross also play a significant part in the flood response because they are helping bring the community back by fundraising for the people that are now homeless.

Please access the video interview with Mr. Meikle through this QR Code. The salty spray whisps through the air. A light wind blows, picking up sand and throwing it at my legs as it goes. Waves slap against the sides of the rocks, curling over the edge dangerously close to where I stand. The sea is grey and murky, and the clouds stretch far out into the horizon. From the tip of the rocky point, I feel as close to the sea and the sky as I am to the rocks beneath my feet. Out here, I am at the mercy of the elements. I am attuned to the ocean’s force, to the changing tides and the crashing and breaking of the waves. I am at one with the sea. Graceful yet assertive, its presence pulls everything around it into a never-ending orbit, a chain that cannot be broken. It has a strength that resonates deep beneath these rocks, like the echoes of thundering waves. I cannot bring myself to look away, I am transfixed by the rolling waves. The unrevealing inky-grey water ripples mysteriously around the rocks, creating obscure but wonderful patterns that run until the shore, constantly disrupted by the crashing waves. My heart beats to the rhythm of the pounding waves, my mind entwined with the ocean.

Fabulous Field Trips Just Around the Corner

An update from the Mitchelton and Districts Gem Club

In order to have rough gemstone material to work on in our workshop, we have regular field trips during the year to collect material for cutting and polishing.

We have not commenced our schedule of field trips for 2022 as generally we wait until the weather is cooler. This generally commences around May, where we have a field trip to Lismore where Labradorite is found. Whilst on this trip, we generally visit the Lismore Gem show which is one of the larger shows in the country. As far as local field trips are concerned, we try to visit such places as Redcliffe for agate, Tweed Valley for agate and chalcedony, Chinchilla and Miles for petrified wood alldepending on the local conditions at the time. Redcliffe depends on the tides and Tweed valley requires a flood to flush out more agate and chalcedony. We usually go to Chinchilla and Miles in the winter time when it is cooler to dig. Most members work on the finds they bring home from field trips in our workshop. Whilst on the subject of Gem Shows, the National Gem Show is to be held in Queensland next year over the Easter long weekend. The Show is to be held at the Dayboro Showgrounds. National Gem Shows are held in a different state each year and next year is Queensland’s turn to hold it. More on the National Gem Show as it draws closer. The Mitchelton and Districts Gem Club has its clubrooms located at 46 Ferneydell Street, Ashgrove and is open every Thursday from 9am to noon for cutting and polishing rocks and from noon to 3pm for silverwork. It is also open on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. The Club caters for rock enthusiasts in the North Western area of Brisbane. If you feel this type of hobby interests, you come along and inspect our workshop where we cut and polish rocks and gemstones. Contact Lloyd on 3351 2093 or John 3351 1038 for further information.

TAX MATTERS

from local experts Valor, 2 Glenlee St, Arana Hills

In recent times, we have seen an increase in Trades working under an ABN. Regardless of the issues around whether they should, or should not, be under an ABN, it is important to get the basics right when starting out. Often these Trades are young persons receiving more money than they have before. This can lead to all sorts of issues when the GST is not allowed for, or Income Tax is not considered. Those who get it right open a separate bank account to transfer 10% of every invoice payment they receive to cover for GST they will have to pay. Some even open a separate bank account to transfer a sum for income tax to cover themselves for tax time. Spend too much on fancy cars or toys and you can end up with a tax bill that may take years to pay off. If you are in this situation, or are looking to work under an ABN, pop in and see us so we can run through what you should do to avoid getting into debt. The ATO in recent weeks has focused on Trust Distributions under section 100A of the Income tax Act. Section 100A was introduced in 1978 to deal with blatant trust stripping arrangements. In recent times, Trust Distributions have come under the scrutiny of the ATO with increased audit activity with the Commissioner being able to go back as many years as he likes. The increased focus appears to be on distributions to adult children and grandparents. If you are operating through a trust and are unsure of your obligations, then I would suggest you see us.

Aged Care Provider Moves to Arana Hills

Just Better Care Brisbane North, our locally loved Aged Care provider, has recently relocated from their Kallangur office to Arana Hills.

Comprised of a dedicated team of 90 Community Support Professionals, Just Better Care is committed to improvingpeople’s lives. The business has organically flourished from its small roots to establishing a town-wide, solid presence in the disability and aged care sector. They provide high-quality in-home care and disability support services, administer Home Care Package funding, are customer choice oriented, and offer NDIS Plan Management. Their primary focus is ensuring that everyone can live independently and be able to get out and about in the community. The Just Better Care Brisbane North team at their new premises in Arana Hills Last month, it was decided that Just Better Care strategically relocate one of their offices to 1/6 Patricks Road, Arana Hills. The grand move occurred the week of the Brisbane floods—super convenient, right—and so many staff were stranded or unable to get around as expected. They have signage underway and will be fully branded in the coming weeks. What’s more, the building is across the street from the Arana Hills Plaza—home to Coles, Aldi, The Reject Shop, Stellarossa, and more. How (genuinely) convenient! Just Better Care is actively recruiting for additional field staff and welcomes all enquiries. As such, they are hosting an Open Day on Saturday 30th April from 10am till 1pm, with the whole community invited to call in and meet the friendly team. Susanne, whose career at Just Better Care stands at 7 years and counting, reveals, “We believe that good business is based on good relationships and across both sites we have worked hard to connect with like-minded people to develop and engage in personalised and enticing customer experiences.” Susanne, along with the rest of her colleagues, ensures that the relocation of the main office to Arana Hills will allow them to strengthen existing relationships and widen their footprint as a values-based company. “Needless to say, our existing geographical reach and associated services provided across the Brisbane City and Moreton Bay Regional Councils will not be impacted by the move, given our office and personal support professionals already flexibly work across Brisbane’s Northside.” We wish them all the best for their next chapter.

Keperra Country Golf Club welcomed golfers back on course on March 19 after suffering unprecedented damage in the February floods.

Ongoing rain after the major flooding event hampered efforts to clear mountains of mud, gravel, rocks, vegetation and other debris from tees, fairways and greens before work could begin to restore the 27-hole course to playing condition. More than 160 Club members volunteered to help with the clean-up, rolling up with rakes and shovels for three days of working bees while the Club’s management and maintenance teams handled the heavy lifting with bobcats and other machinery. ‘We would like to thank all our volunteers who assisted,’ said Club General Manager Gavin Lawrence. ‘It was a massive effort in hot and humid conditions and a big factor in helping us to get the course reopened as quickly as possible. ‘The scale of the damage was quite overwhelming at first inspection and substantially greater than what we experienced in the 2011 floods, with fairways gouged and bunkers destroyed. Several greens were left with layers of silt that had to be carefully removed by hand. Fortunately, though, all the course bridges and the majority of the concrete paths remained intact. ‘The 8th hole suffered the most significant damage after a brick retaining wall washed away. The bunker face gave way under the speed and volume of water, ripping the green in two. The hole remains out of play but we hope to have it open soon. ‘Ongoing work is required to get the whole course back to where it was prior to the flooding.’ Mr Lawrence said the Club was disappointed to find, on the eve of reopening, that course safety signs and fencing had been vandalised and discarded. ‘We have done extensive health and safety inspections and the signs and fences marking ‘no-go’ areas are there for a reason. It was not only a senseless act, we were concerned that the trespassers put themselves at risk of serious injury. www.echo-news.com.au

Serenata Singers Open Night 2022

The Serenata Singers is a friendly community choir based in The Gap. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2020!

On Monday 14 March, the choir held an open night at The Gap Uniting Church auditorium, 1050 Waterworks Road. This was a no-obligation chance to meet choir members, find out about the choir, and observe and join in a rehearsal. The choir welcomes new members. No audition is necessary. An ability to read music is helpful, but not required. The choir sings a variety of popular and show tunes, spiritual and folk songs. We sing in parts – that is, the sopranos, altos, tenors and basses may have different parts. This might sound difficult, but we have very clever directors who guide us on every piece of music. We picked up two new tenors at our last Open Night, and you do not need wait until the next. We invite you to any Monday practice at 7 pm in the church. If you can hold a tune and love to sing, the Serenata Singers may be for you! For further information, check us out at: https://serenatasingers. org.au/

Thinking of living in a Manufactured Home Park?

By The Alliance of Manufactured Home Owners Inc. Development of Manufactured Homes (MH), and parks is increasingly becoming a lucrative venture for Queensland property developers and an option for senior Australians. More often these days, Manufactured Homes are established as over 50’s resort style living.

Many people considering this lifestyle do not understand the many issues that this type of home can bring. The home site is owned by the Park Owner/s, the homes are considered to be chattels and cannot be borrowed against. The park owners charge weekly site fees for each home owner. The average site fee for the majority of new parks at present is approximately $190 per week, and this usually will rise each year. There can be many hidden costs in these fees, and all residents should ensure they view a copy of the financial documents that outlines the items that are being used to ascertain the site fee. Living in a manufactured home/park should be taken with full consideration of what your site agreement states. This is the legal document that rules your residency, along with all the park rules. Many people do not realise that they can ask for changes or amendments in these agreements prior to signing. Negotiation is always available until you sign up. Do not be pressured into signing quickly, as once you sign this agreement, the rules in it are the daily governance of your life in the park. These are usually standard format and park owners will add certain items that may not be standard and must not come under the “prohibited terms” stated in the Act. There are few solicitors that have a good working knowledge of these contracts. Many will say that it is standard, and may not bother to go through it with the future in mind, so it is buyer beware! Remember, once you have signed up you cannot change anything unless you can prove it is illegal. Many issues can arise after you move in that come about as a result of not carrying out due diligence prior to buying into the park. Visit it at different times, try to speak to residents, check out any on line comments, and make sure it has what the glossy brochures show. If you wish to sell your home, your site agreement will have rules that you must abide by. One rule in most parks is that you cannot put a ‘For Sale’ sign outside your home, as the land is not yours. Some will say they do not allow private agents to come on site, this is not legal, and you need to know your rights. Again, make sure you are fully aware of the long term implications of this choice of home buying. It is not the same as being in a private home situation. There may be more noise, less outside space, paying for amenities you may not use, lack of privacy, and a totally different social atmosphere. Being the same age dynamic does not mean like-minded people. Manufactured Homes and residential parks are duly regulated in Queensland since the commencement of the Manufactured Homes (Residential Parks) Act 2003. There have been some amendments to the original Act. All people who contemplate this type of living should read this Act and be fully cognisant with the contents as this is the legislation that rules this housing sector. Knowing what you can and cannot do, what avenues are available to you to address any illegal or unfair actions is where our association can assist you in your decision making, or to support and give you advice after you have moved in. Alliance of Manufactured Home Owners Inc. has been Page 26 - April 2022, The Hills Echo

instrumental in liaising with residents, government ministers and working groups for the rights of those that live in these parks. We presently have three submissions and an e-petition before the government addressing changes in the Act on the matters of selling, older abuse, and site fee increases. We strive to ensure that residents who choose to live in a manufactured home / park have a voice, and that when they have a problem there is a place with knowledge, experience and is non-profit that can support them. We are not affiliated with any government or private body. People can check out our website on amho.com.au for all the information they need, or contact me directly, Rhonda Cooper President on amhocontact@gmail.com or 0418368567

Arana Netball - Small But Mighty!

Although Arana Netball Club is one of the smaller clubs in the Downey Park Netball Association competition, this local club sure packs a punch. Producing skilled players is what this club does best and although being small in size, this does not limit the ability for their players to participate in representative competition. One example of this is Hana, one of their talented players, who has been selected in the 2022 Queensland Catholic Netball Association (QCNA) representative team. From joining the club at 7 years of age through their Net Set Go program, Hana worked hard and has progressed through the ranks to play representative Netball. However, this isn’t the first time Hana has been selected to represent QCNA, in fact she is quite the veteran with this being the 5th time she has been selected. The whole of the Arana Netball Community would like to extend their congratulations to Hana! Planning Ahead Part 4

Ferny Hills

An update from the Ferny Grove Upper Kedron & Keperra Residents Association

Ferny Grove

We hope everyone has made their way safely through the recent bad weather. Our local, state and federal representatives did a commendable job keeping the community informed of road closures, damage to public infrastructure and how to access financial support if you were impacted.

Ferny Grove Railway Station

Ferny Grove Shopping Village

y Road

In the March edition of this column, we outlined where our community research identified the need for improved road access within Upper Kedron and Ferny Grove. The most contentious of these improvements has always been local support for a road connection between the Ellendale development and Mt Nebo Road. With the recent floods presenting numerous Upper road closures, the need for an alternative exit was well Kedron proven and should be dealt with as a priority by the local government. This month is part 4 of what our Association included in the community-led budget submission to Cr Keperra Toomey (The Gap Ward). The submission included recommendations on expenditure categories within BCC’s budget being: local roads, parks, bikeways, footpaths, reserves and public transport. Legend In parts 1 to 3 of this monthly column, we shared what we submitted to Council in relation to local parks, A heat map prepared by pathways and roads. This month, we’ll address public the Ferny Grove Upper Kedron & Keperra Residents transport. Association Our research found that there is a high level of community dissatisfaction with the lack of access to Council buses across our suburbs. A heat map we prepared demonstrates that a large proportion of residents have lack of access to bus services. We also understand that Brisbane City uses the measure that every resident should be at least within 400m of a bus stop. This measure is definitely not the case for our area. Making changes to public transport requires strong leadership from the local council to liaise with Translink and the Department of Transport & Main Roads on behalf of ratepayers. In our budget submission, we urged Cr Toomey to use our heat map analysis as evidence that more bus routes and stops are required in this part of The Gap Ward, particularly in Upper Kedron. We put forward a number of route options to provide greater coverage for more residents to supplement the current 367 and 362 bus service offerings. With the Rosella Street bridge construction soon to commence (linking Brockman Road through to Full service mobile mechanics come to your home, site or Rosella Street) along with the workplace at a time that suits you. proposed widening of Minnie Street, there appears to be ample opportunity to extend the reach of the bus routes. A Month Not To Be Forgotten!

Women in Business

From the Golden Valley Keperra Lions Club with Paul Ryan Well, what a month!

Paul Ryan

We saw a bit of rain, bit of flooding, landslides, road closures and many people ignoring the saying ‘If it’s Flooded Forget it’ We have had a busy month here at the Golden Valley Keperra Lions Club. We held a Lions Awareness day at Kmart Plaza, collected money for the Flood Appeal and cleaned up some flood damaged homes. Thank you so much

for the generosity of The Hills District residents - we were truly overwhelmed. The War in Ukraine was also front and centre in the media, with the senseless invasion by Russia. Thousands of people dead or injured, thousands of people seeking refuge in Poland, and thousands of people being kidnapped and taken to Russia. For what reason – no one knows - not even Putin. Yet in the face of all this, there is kindness in mankind - people volunteer. People help each other in times of need and others post on socials to lift our spirits. A local lady was robbed at a local Petrol Station last week. She came into the Pay Station shaking, and upset. Staff immediately called Police to investigate. As Police calmed her down, they asked if she knew who robbed her. She said yes it was Pump No. 3!’ So if you have some free time and would you like to meet new people and learn new skills, give me a call or send an email. We would love to hear from you. Brisbane Tram Supports Aussie Icon News and views from a tramway muse, by David Fryer

We love football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars. The catchy true-blue Aussie jingle of 1976 was actually created by Chevrolet for the U.S. market two years earlier along with an ‘Africanised’ version for Chevrolet South Africa. The once ubiquitous Holden brand may be missing in action these days, but the now defunct company can rest on its eucalyptus laurels with a well-earned place in automotive history. English migrant James Alexander Holden began selling imported and locally made saddles, whips and harnesses in 1856. The business initially flourished, but James ran into financial troubles and he was declared insolvent in 1886. The business was sold to his son, Henry, and German-born Adolf Frost. James died a year later. The new company extended their product range to include leather upholstery for coaches and by 1910 Holden & Frost were trimming motor vehicles. In 1914 they built their first timber-framed car body on an imported Lancia chassis. Larger contracts soon followed and in 1918 Holden's Motor Body Builders was established. The company benefited from strict import regulations and by 1923 they were producing 12,000 timber-framed car bodies a year. In 1924, HMBB were the sole supplier of bodies for General Motors with manufacturing plants in all states. While HMBB focused primarily on domestic vehicles, they also built railway carriages and trams. In total, 60 trams were built with examples surviving in South Australia and New Zealand today. In 1931 Holden's Motor Body Builders merged with General Motors Australia to form General Motors-Holden's Ltd. In 1946, three prototype cars, code named ‘Australian Car Style No. 19525’, were hand-built at General Motors in Detroit. Imported into Australia as the '48-215', it was later launched as the iconic 'FX' in 1948. (The sole surviving prototype can be seen at the National Museum of Australia). Sadly, there are no Holden trams in Queensland, but the burntout remains of Advertising Tramcar 140 still survives at the Tramway Museum in Ferny Grove. © David Fryer. JOHN TUCKER Everton Park’s first Postmaster

The Northern Suburbs Express 1966

Thank you to Upper Kedron local Suzi Latta! Whilst doing a good old clean out, Suzi stumbled upon the 6th April, 1966 edition of the old local paper the Northern Suburbs Express. This was a Newspaper that used to circulate around the Northern Suburbs. If you have any images from the past you would like to share get in touch!

An update from Enoggera & Districts Historical Society Inc.

Pictured here is John Tucker, who served as Everton Park’s first Post Master from 1899.

John was born in Devon, England in 1860 and came out to Australia with his parents in 1862 arriving in Melbourne on the ship ‘Morning Light’. In 1881, he lived for a while in Cairns and then, unable to find work, walked his way down to Brisbane. He got work in a timber yard and later at a mill but lost his job during the 1890s recession. With the death of John Tucker: 1860 - 1942 his first wife, he later married Jane Faust. He opened the first post office at Everton Park in 1899. A second outlet was also built in 1908. Mail was collected from coach delivery and sorted by John before he delivered contents to local north west residents – first by horseback and later by bicycle. Mail supplies later came to John via the train service at Enoggera. John passed away in 1942. Thank you to Diana Hacker for sharing this piece of local history with the Society. Does anyone else out there have photos and information about some of our area’s early settlers? We’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch by emailing enoggerahistory@gmail.com or dropping in to the Enoggera Memorial Hall any Thursday from 9.30am to 1pm. Take care, everyone. Andrew McMicking, President

Open in Time for ANZAC Celebrations

An update from the Samford Museum

ANZAC day will soon be upon us and the day will be commemorated with feature displays and childrens’ activities at the Samford Museum. Local service men and women will be present and we are excited to offer free admission to the commemoration that is open from 9am. Samford RSL’s Service will be at Samford Avenue of Honour on the day. Many readers will be familiar with Bunya Road and Drapers Crossing during flood times. The new Broad Bridge at Drapers Crossing saved the day for travellers during the ‘big wet’. The water was seen to be over Bunya Road at what early Bunya residents called ‘the school bridge’ over Bergin Creek. Samford Museum is OPEN again Sundays and Wednesdays 10am -4pm. Entry is through our new John Scott Park entrance. Admissions remain unchanged at $5 adult and $1 school children. For adult and school group visits please contact Geoff 0417 610 983 to book.

Dickson News Peter DUTTON MP Federal Member for Dickson

A Message from Peter

Term one has gone quickly and Easter is rapidly approaching. I hope you are able to enjoy a break and stay safe on the roads if you’re heading away over the holidays. There are some exciting projects recently announced in the Hills District for funding through the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. Tennis players in the area will be pleased to find out two tennis courts at Wahminda Park, Ferny Hills are going to be renewed with new reinforced concrete slabs and acrylic surfaces being laid as well as new posts, nets and essential equipment. Council has scheduled works to begin in October this year and it is due for completion by March 2023. The intersection of Plucks and South Pine Road in Arana Hills is also set to be upgraded. The intersection is set to be reconfigured to improve safety at the intersection. Early works will begin in May 2022. A pathway between Minto Crescent and Plucks Road will also be completed improving accessibility for both pedestrians and cyclists. These upgrades are being delivered with the local council and I am proud to have secured federal funding to make them possible.

At a federal level, unemployment for the month of February was down to 4% - the equal lowest level since 1974. 77,000 jobs were created, and significantly, the unemployment rate for women dropped to just 3.8%. The Morrison Government’s plan for lower taxes and cutting red tape to increase investment is key for us to keep on creating local jobs and growing the economy. This means we can continue to deliver record investments in health, aged care and other essential services. Expanding the ADF

Recently, I was pleased to visit the Gallipoli Barracks at Enoggera with the Prime Minister to announce an increase in the number of Australian Defence Force Members. Keeping Australians safe in years to come is the highest priority for the Morrison Government. This investment will see an increase in the Defence workforce of approximately 18,500 by 2040. This growth will enable Defence to: • deliver new capabilities in coming years, including nuclear powered submarines; more ships; aircraft and advanced weapons • build warfighting capabilities in the evolving domains of space, and information and cyber • provide redundancy and resilience in critical areas of the workforce • increase support to delivery and enabling areas such as intelligence; capability and acquisitions; information, computing and communications infrastructure

Flood Support

The damage from flooding happened quickly, but rebuilding will take some time. It’s a big job ahead of us, however, seeing our community unite during hard times is always inspiring and we are working to come back even better. If you are in need of support, there is assistance available from the Federal Government that you may be eligible for. Support can be accessed via MyGov or by calling Services Australia on 180 22 66. For small businesses, not-for-profits, and community organisations there is a joint support package from the Federal and Queensland Governments which can be applied for at www.qrida.qld.gov.au.

What’s important to you?

Please get in touch with me at peter.dutton.mp@aph.gov.au or 3205 9977 to let me know your priorities for our community. Or you can drop in to my next mobile office. I am approaching 2,500 visits in my mobile office and have helped thousands of residents with local issues. If you see me out and about with my caravan, please drop in. Alternatively, you can drop by my office on Gympie Road in Strathpine during business hours. Or visit my website www.peterdutton.com.au for more information. The Hills Echo, April 2022 - Page 35

Musician Moving Up In The World

Alphonse de Lamartine once said, ‘Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends’.

Which reminds me of John Paul Friedrich Richter’s famous description of music being ‘the moonlight in the gloomy night of life’. Both quotes ring true—a sweet melody to our ears. But for nineteen-year-old Brisbane girl Zoe Quinn, music is much more than literature and moonlight. It is her life’s calling. Currently thriving as an indie-folk-pop guitarist and singersongwriter across our coast, Zoe’s roots stem from Eatons Hill, where she was born, raised, and educated. She attended Eatons Hill State School and Albany Creek State High School, before taking up full-time university studies at QUT. Her love for (and dedication to) belting songs and strumming her guitar has plunged Zoe head-first into a world of landing live shows and local gigs. Throughout 2021, Zoe regularly played at festivals and events across South-East Queensland, including the Hills Festival, Redcliffe KiteFest, Neurum Creek Music Festival, Anywhere Festival, and Southbank Parklands. She also made her musical mark appearing on the line-up for Redcliffe Festival of Sails, Moreton Bay Food & Wine Festival, Redfest, and the Ekka. She has supported bands at various venues, including Ric’s Backyard in Fortitude Valley, Bar Wunder in Toowoomba, and Goleby’s Basement in Ipswich. She performs regionally at the Sunshine Coast, Rainbow Beach and Bundaberg, and was a finalist in the 2021 Passport to Airlie Beach Competition. On top of all this, Zoe also carved up crowds at the 2021 Live & Local Microfestival in Samford Village, as well as Samford’s Christmas on Main Street two years in a row. I think it’s safe to

say that Zoe sure knows how to put on a good show! In fact, while at another live show at Woodfordia Bushtime, on 2021’s New Year’s Eve, Zoe launched her latest single, Walking Away. Produced by Cody McWaters (King Stingray, Kurilpa Reach), Walking Away is a heartbreakingly beautiful addition to Zoe’s cabinet of songs. In 2020, Zoe recorded and released her debut EP, Hearts on Sleeves, along Zoe at the Woodford with her follow up single Folk Festival Strange World, which were produced by Steve Kempnich (Powderfinger, Birds of Tokyo). All of her music has been recorded at Airlock Studios at Camp Mountain. And not to mention, it is all worth checking out. You can support Zoe by streaming her original music on Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud and other streaming platforms under the artist’s name, Zoe Quinn, and it can be downloaded from Bandcamp. Her website www.zoequinnmusic.com has further information about her music and upcoming gigs, and how she can be booked for private functions. You can see this young legend in action, Zoe has an upcoming gig on April 15th as well. From 9am, Zoe will take the stage at the Redcliffe Festival of Sails. Or you can catch her playing at Anywhere Festival at Kumbartcho, in Eatons Hill, on June 1st.

THE FERNY REPORT by Mark Furner M.P.

State Member for Ferny Grove Ferny Grove Central Update

hardworking crew from Broad Construction was able to clear the water however and get back to work within days. Indeed, Broad Construction have done a great job mitigating the delays which have been caused by the La Ni a weather cycle we have been experiencing this summer and have managed to recoup a great deal of lost time by sourcing extra resources, re-sequencing work and re-commencing work earlier than originally anticipated over the Christmas break. Once complete, Ferny Grove Central will increase commuter car parking at the station by more than 43% and will provide hundreds of much needed local jobs. The multi-level carpark, which is the section currently under construction, is still on track to be finished by the end of this year – with stage two of the construction to commence shortly after.

Local Schools Infrastructure Boost

Broad Construction Site Manager Matt showing me the progress of Ferny Grove Central. The Ferny Grove Transit Oriented Development, which will be known locally as Ferny Grove Central, is currently full steam ahead. There has been a great deal of extra rain over the Christmas/New Year period – even before the rain and flooding event of February and March, which filled the basement carpark area of the site with around two metres of water. The

St Andrews Primary School invited me to conduct a civics class recently. The questions and insights of the students were amazing! Ferny Grove Electorate Schools from Ferny Hills to Ashgrove have experienced a massive infrastructure boost in recent years. The Palaszczuk Government believes investing in education is a must and I will continue to fight for a better future for our kids. Below is just a snapshot of what is happening next for our fantastic schools! Mitchie Special School is undergoing its largest upgrade since the school opened fifty years ago. Mitchie Special School has performed an essential role in our community for many years. Now, with the construction of new amenities, classrooms, and admin, it will continue to serve our region for decades to come. Oakleigh State School, which opened in 1934, is undergoing a significant influx of students as young families move back into Ashgrove in large numbers. At the 2020 election, I campaigned to deliver a new hall to Oakleigh, and today I am pleased to announce the plans have been drawn up and construction is expected to begin this year. Furthermore, a new two-storey, four-classroom building will also be built this year to meet the growing demand by young families for the quality education Oakleigh has become famous for. Patricks Road State School, which is Ferny Grove’s largest primary school, is the site of a jointly funded state and federal hall-extension project. The plans have been drawn up and the project is ready to go. I have been advised the project will go to tender as soon as the Federal Education Minister signs off on the contract. I am hopeful this will happen before the federal election so construction can begin ASAP. www.echo-news.com.au

It’s All About Art in Aspley

Calling all creatives! Did you know we have a local art group right on our doorstep that has been around for almost 50 years?!

The Aspley Art Group (AAG) has a long history after being founded in 1973. Its members are all talented local artists who work in a range of styles and mediums which include oils, acrylics, watercolours, pastels as well as pen and ink and a variety of sketching mediums. The group regularly enjoy showcasing their art at local shopping centres, as well as other venues when available, such as an annual exhibition at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital. The AAG donates regularly to the RBWH Research Foundation and the annual show adds additional funds from a percentage of all paintings sold. Tutorials are arranged at intervals throughout the year, providing opportunity for artists to try out new ideas and skills. And painting together after monthly meetings is often on the agenda. New members are always welcome! More information about membership and the group’s activities and artists is available on the AAG website (www.aspleyartgroup.org) or contact infor@aspleyartgroup.org. Knowledge About Natives Coming Soon! An update from the Mitchelton and Districts Garden Club

Flooding, bad weather and closed roads caused the cancellation of the March meeting of the Mitchelton and Districts Garden Club. It is hoped the meeting on 7th April goes ahead. Medicine from the Garden is the topic of Debbie Aitcheson, the guest speaker, who comes from The Chilli Patch at Minden.

When this club meets on 5th May, Geoff Robinson, the guest speaker will talk about Natives. It is not known what aspect of natives he will cover, but rest assured his talk will be interesting and provide a lot of information. Our island continent (Australia) hosts a multitude of native flora such as tiny exquisite ground orchids, unique ground covers and flowering shrubs, gnarled, grotesque vines and majestic forest trees, so an immense scope of topics is available. Spring bulbs and annuals should be planted by the end of April. After seedlings are planted, water them in with a Seasol solution which will lessen transplant shock. Also, place something to make shade for them. Pieces cut from shrubs are good as the leaves will fall from the twigs and gradually allow the seedlings to be exposed to more sun. Some gardeners like to pinch out the centre of the seedling once it is established, to make its growth more bushy, and also produce more flowers. This club meets on the first Thursday of the calendar month except January. Meetings commence after morning tea which is served at 9.45 am. Visitors and new members are most welcome. The hall is close to public transport and accessible by wheelchair. For more information please phone the President, Pat, on 3356 1256.

Getting Down to Business in the Hills Organic Garden An update from the Hills Organic Community Garden

The Hills Organic Garden has produced a vast variety of fruits and vegetables this season Wow! What a summer we have had! Lots and lots of rain and, on the whole, quite bearable temperatures compared to 2021.

Now the mornings are getting cooler and the days quite manageable, so it is now time to get some serious action going at the garden. April is planting, so before we start, the beds will need topping up with more soil to which we add fertilizer and compost. We then leave the beds to rest for a couple of weeks to allow all the nutrients to mix into the soil. So planting will begin mid April. It is best to start planting before the weather gets too cold so the soil is still a little warm to encourage the establishment of root growth. In our herb garden we can start planting fennel, oregano, thyme and rosemary, as well as parsley, marjoram and coriander. Our vegetable planting will consist of broccoli, spinach, radish, snow peas, silver beet, cauliflower, cabbages, zucchinis, eggplant, lettuce, beetroot and tomatoes. As it is not recommended to plant the same crop in the same bed as the previous season, we ensure that crop rotation is carried out. This is the fun time of the year for the Community Garden and also a busy time as the newly planted seedlings will need regular watering and fertilizing. The HOG community is a friendly group who offer people in the Hills District the opportunity to grow vegetables using organic principles. Age is no barrier - so feel free to come along one Sunday afternoon to have a chat and a look around our beautiful garden. Our members meet on a Sunday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm. As well, they attend to the garden through the week to water and do general maintenance. You will find us at 416 Bunya Road, Bunya, next to the Off Leash Dog Park. Membership Fees per year are $15 for adults, $25 for family and $5 for Juniors. Visit hog.org.au, search ‘The Hills Organic Garden’ on Facebook or phone 0407 582 980 for information. www.echo-news.com.au

Counselling Corner

Grief Can Show Up On The Daily This article is brought to you by Social Worker, Elena Bishop. Elena is the director of Supportive Therapy and Social Work in Arana Hills. She has a wealth of knowledge and insight into the industry.

When we think of grief and loss, we typically think we only experience it when someone passes away.

The thing about grief is that it can come up in the most unlikely scenarios, feeling a certain way without understanding ‘why all the emotions?’ If we don’t address it correctly, or flow through the grief process, it can get stuck in an uncomfortable emotional state. Some examples of grief and loss is during the breakdown of a marriage, when expectations of having a child doesn’t match the reality, the ending of a job role, moving homes, or having to share custody of your children. When we feel a situation is out of our control, when we experience an outcome that we weren’t prepared for - or saying goodbye to a certain way of life as we know it - it brings up a sequence of emotions to help us emotionally process this new change. There are five different emotions that we transition through. The funny thing about the rules of grief is that there are no rules! We can experience them in any order. There is no set duration for each stage, varied intensities, and we can encounter one phase more than once. This will all keep repeating unless the concern has been resolved in our minds; and our emotions have processed our feelings to make sense of the new reality.

www.echo-news.com.au

This isn’t an any order, but they will be numbered from one to five so it’s easier to remember! The first is denial. Denial is a survival mechanism which keeps us safe emotionally. If we are in denial about a particular situation happening, then we are still able to function at our ‘normal’ capacity. We are still able to focus on daily tasks without thinking too much about what is causing us grief. Second is bargaining. This is when you reflect upon the situation and analyse if you could have done something different to alter the outcome. Some examples are ‘if only I tried harder’, ‘I wish I had stood up for myself more’, ‘I would give anything to go back and change time’, and if I am religious - it can be begging your chosen god or belief system to answer your prayers. Number three is feelings of anger. Anger to why this is happening to you, anger at the people around you that are treating you this way, anger that nothing goes right in your life, anger at yourself because you wish you had done things differently. This anger can show up in many different ways, sometimes it is displaced anger. Have you heard that saying ‘you take things out on the people closest to you?’ If you have been numb, or in denial for some time, then it can present as a ‘Rage Haze’ where it feels like everything is too much, like a huge explosion, you feel you just snap… and depending on the anger you are feeling (and your relationship with anger), it can be irrational and even some sensations of blackout. Next is depression; this depression is actually feelings of sadness about what is happening. It can be longing for the way that things were or desire for people to be back in your life again. This depression and sadness can feel like overwhelming fatigue; carrying on without addressing the grief can lead to psychological burnouts and exhaustion. It can have profound effects on our mood, on how we process our current situation, and impacts our hope about what the future looks like for us. This depression can also be intertwined with a fear of the unknown, feeling we are so overwhelmed with things being out of control that it’s almost like we shut down emotionally. Now, the good news! Acceptance and forgiveness. This is accepting the current situation as it is, and learning to live with your new reality. Forgiving yourself. Being compassionate to yourself. Being kind to yourself about the turmoil you have been experiencing. Give yourself a break. Almost like a sense of peace, because you have had the time and space to process what has happened. This also leads the way of feeling in control over your own life again. We think with grief, it is just forgetting and moving on – just get over it! But, its not. It’s about learning your new reality, addressing your underlying feelings and giving yourself permission to process what is happening – in your own time. Grief is like a glitter bomb; no matter how much you try to clean it all up – it will always be there… somewhere. Your success and happiness will lie in how you flow through the five stages. You will come out the other side stronger and in control again. Do you know that if you text 0477 13 11 14 between 6pm - midnight when you are in need of support, a trained Lifeline crisis support worker will text with you? So if you are feeling overwhelmed or having difficulty coping, please drop them a text. They listen without judgement and provide a safe space to discuss your needs, worries or concerns. They will also work with you to explore options for support.

Construction Commences for Veteran Support Hub

30 Day Self-Care Solution for Nurses

Authored by, Kristy Anne A solution for busy, overworked Nurses helps to reduce burnout and create healthier relationships.

Kristy knows what the throws of burnout can do to a person. It rendered her dull, lifeless with strained relationships and generally checked out. She has worked in the healthcare industry for over a decade, previously working in the hospital system as an enrolled nurse, a position she once loved. However, years of shift work, parenting, and little to no support system led her deep into burnout territory. Only she didn't know it was burnout. She just thought, 'this is life, get used to it.’ Yet something about that statement didn't sit well with her. After a bedside chat with a palliative care patient nearing the end of his life, she asked him some prickly questions. Not to be nosey, but because she genuinely wanted to know. What is the meaning of life? It surely couldn't be 'this' constant state of stress, anxiety and feeling of dread every time the night shift came around. The answers she got weren't exactly what she expected. Nevertheless, that conversation sent her on a journey to refind the spark she lost down the hospital's halls she once loved. The 30 Day Self-care Solution is the documented solution Kristy used to help her heal from burnout. After Kristy managed to get herself smack bang into phase 5. Kristy is now a behavioural scientist; she still has a passion for health and well-being, especially nurses' mental health and well-being. She has found her spark again, helping people differently. Her book was born after witnessing the devastation the last few years has had on her colleagues and other corporate working individuals. Stress has been at an all-time high. Extensive stress on the brain and body is not healthy for anyone for an extended period. The self-care solution dives deep into helping nurses heal from and or prevent burnout. It helps them to find what sparks joy again from within, all it takes is 30 minutes a day. The book is available on Amazon via Kindle and Paperback, with the audiobook to recording soon. You can find Kristy via her website www.projectinbetween.com.au. If you feel you could benefit from Kristy providing workshops in your business on managing and preventing workplace burnout, please feel free to reach out to her.

An artists impression of the completed building Rogerscorp along with RSL Queensland and Mates4Mates officially turn the soil on a new veteran support hub.

The developer, Rogerscorp have today officially commenced construction on the new Stafford Services Hub, a purpose built veteran and family support hub at Stafford in Brisbane’s north. The first sod was turned yesterday morning as part of the official turning of the sod ceremony, with the development now on its way to making a difference throughout Brisbane’s northside, which will play a significant role in providing critical services to this high-density community of veterans. In attendance were representatives of the Federal and State Governments, Brisbane City Council, RSL Queensland and Mates4Mates. The development will cost more than $25 million and is set to be a leading example of veteran healthcare. Stafford Services Hub will be located within the new Stafford commercial precinct at 274 Stafford Road, with construction due to be complete by the end of the year. 1500m2 of the top floor will be tenanted by the Veteran & Family Wellbeing Centre an initiative of RSL Queensland and Mates4Mates. The remaining ground floor space has preliminary agreements with another veteran organisation, and official tenancy to be confirmed soon. The first of its kind in South-East Queensland, the centre is designed to bring together a variety of services under one roof, helping make it easier for veterans and their families to find the support they need. Rogerscorp’s Director, Simon Rogers said ‘Stafford Services Hub will become a central location for the veteran community, providing critical support, rehabilitation and sociability to current and former Australian Defence Force members and their families.’ RSL Queensland CEO, Robert Skoda said ‘Our new Veteran and Family Wellbeing Centre will provide accessible, inperson counselling, physical rehabilitation, employment support and mentorship support to current and former defence personnel and their families.’ ‘More veterans live in Queensland than any other state and RSL Queensland proudly delivers more veteran wellbeing services in Queensland than any other Australian ex-Services organisation. This model is a perfect example of how we are working to evolve veteran support services to ensure they are meeting the needs of our ever-changing community.’ The Hills Echo, April 22 - Page 47
