The Ferny Grove Markets Turns 35!

Did you know the Ferny Grove Markets are turning 35 this year? Established in 1963, these markets are a long standing attraction within our district. Bringing the community and stall holders together, local residents know this is a great place to snag a bargain.

Located at the Ferny Grove train station car park, the markets take place every Sunday from 6am to noon. There is absolutely everything you can imagine on sale here:- heaps of books, children’s toys, plants, fruit and veggies. There are food stalls which are easy to find.......simply follow the delicious smells and make your choice. The original market convenor Colin Smith is still in charge of setting up the market and enjoys greeting familiar faces each Sunday.

‘The markets are so successful due to the affordable cost of holding a stall here,’said Colin. ‘There is really something for everyone. The markets are a community event, locals come down not only to browse stalls but also to meet each other and grab a bite to eat.’ As Colin looks towards his next milestone, he is very conscious that the success of the weekly Ferny Grove markets relies on the support of the community. ‘I would like to thank all of our patrons and stall holders who have supported the markets over the past 35 years,’said Colin. Whether you are looking to stock the fridge and pantry up for the week, need a new bike for the kids or just want to grab a coffee and some breakfast, head down to the markets this Sunday!

Leslie Hunter and ‘Scruffy’ who have been holding their fresh fruit and veggies stall at the markets for the past 35 years.

Deb and Paul from ‘Daily Fix’ have been serving coffee at the markets for the past 7 years

Samford Show Celebrates

Throughout the last 50 years, the Samford community has grown and changed but one thing remains the same – it is still a small, picturesque and charming village, characterised by its strong agricultural history. It has also been the home of the Samford Show, albeit under different names, since 1968. To have an agricultural show continue successfully for so long is no small feat, as Karen Wolf, Managing Director of the Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Society (QCAS) notes. ‘Show Societies are run by volunteers,’ Ms Wolf said. ‘To keep them going for 50 years with dedicated volunteers running multi-faceted community events, with all the work that goes into doing it safely, meet community expectations, managing biosecurity and workplace health and safety requirements is a really big deal.’ This year’s show will take place on Saturday 14th July and Sunday 15th July and looks set to be bigger and better than ever. Gates open at 8am and fireworks take place on Saturday at 6pm. There will be exciting new entertainment, with the Dinkum Dinosaurs and Big Top Circus, along with crowd favourites the Dreamtime Reptiles show, pet parade, dog jump and Pig Racing, all included in the entry price. There will also be cattle shows, an equestrian program, displays of competition entries in poultry, horticulture, cookery, photography, classic cars and utes plus so much more. The Brisbane Tramway Museum Has A Birthday!

The 28th July will be a big day to watch out for this month. The Tramway Museum turns 50 and there are huge celebrations in store! Celebrations will kick off at 10am and run until about 3pm with continuous tram rides happening all day. The full fleet of six trams will be in operation, from the 117 year old ‘Matchbox’ to the modern (just 54 years old!) Phoenix. Other vehicles will be on display, including a horse-drawn tram, trolley bus and two service vehicles. Currently, students from Ferny Grove State High School are busy working on two murals which will be officially unveiled by Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Adrian Schrinner. Members of the school band will also entertain visitors during the morning. The main tram shed will be dedicated to the memory of the Tramway Museum’s inaugural President Bill Daniells who did so much to make this museum a reality. There will also be two food trucks and an ice cream van and a coffee van to make sure no one goes hungry or thirsty! There are spacious lawn areas just right for picnics so pack up the picnic rug. In addition, for the kids there will be FREE FACE PAINTING ‘The museum takes this opportunity to thank The Brisbane City Council for its generous support of this event,’ said a Tramway Museums spokesperson. So, for a different day out – bring the family and experience a living part of Brisbane’s history! For further details, including fares, please see Come down and meet some of the volunteers that keep the Brisbane the colour advertisement on the adjacent page. Tramway Museum on track

The Hills District and Bunya 50th Garden Competition Yes You Can !!!

The President of the Hills District and Bunya Garden Competition, Ms Susie Quirk has a message for all those dedicated gardeners in the competition catchment area, ordinary people who have crafted lovely gardens and contributed to the attractive streetscapes of the area. There is a false notion that your gardens are not worthy enough to enter the competition. Well, the competition has flexible guidelines which recognise that many residential blocks are constrained in terms of the whole areas being prepared up to the standard required to be a serious contender in the competition. Indeed, many people have good reasons for not being able to present a fully developed residential block, including the need to have storage sheds, areas to locate small business equipment, difficult terrain, or difficult design constraints due to the location of their homes. These homes may have an excellent front or rear garden, or waterwise garden design, or edible plant gardens occupying a substantial portion of their residential blocks. These residents are strongly encouraged to enter the Competition in this Special 50th Year. Categories of prize winners exist for each of these garden types – so we say YES YOU CAN! And remember that all entrants in this Special 50th Year of the Competition, will receive a special golden toned plaque which attests to their entry! Committee members and much valued volunteers who generously contribute their personal time, are currently cruising the Competition area, looking out for quality gardens which haven’t been entered previously, and they report back that many such gardens exist! As we have already advised with the kind assistance of The Hills Echo, an entry form can be found in this and upcoming editions or can be downloaded through the Ferny Hills Progress Association website, or physically picked up and lodged at the Arana Hills Library. Dates to remember: Closing Date for Entries: Wednesday 5th September 2018 Judging Day: Sunday 9th September 2018 For more information please visit the Ferny Hills Progress Association Website, www.fhpa.org.au or call Sue on 3354 1379

Brisbane Kokoda Challenge Ferny Grove State High School had the most teams entered in the 48km trek through the D’Aguilar National Park on Saturday 2nd June 2018 and was congratulated by the event organisers in the opening speeches.

Sixteen teams in total consisting of four students and one staff member/parent took off from the start line at 7am with their first team placing 2nd in the ‘Schools Cup’ and with the majority of teams completing the challenge by 9pm. Their biggest walk prior to the challenge was through Mt Glorious, this was a tough trek and 32kms in total. The Mt Glorious walk proved to be the most important training session for Ferny as it gave everyone a real experience as to what they could expect for the 48km challenge that was ahead of them. Ferny Grove SHS has been participating in this event for the past seven years. Each year their number of teams increases and they have already begun training and recruiting for next year. Team Leader and teacher David Hunt says ‘The students show great community spirit, mateship and courage during this life changing experience.’ A competition is run each year for the design of the NO HEALTH FUND - $125 New patient with Health Fund, NO GAP for Check Up and Clean school’s Kokoda polo shirt. Robin Drury Manager George Hartnett Metropolitan Funerals Robin Drury is a passionate funeral professional with 20 year’s experience. He values honesty, respect, integrity and honour, and provides those values to the families he serves. In his own family he has an 18 month old boy and 8 year old girl which allows him the balance he needs to care for families with an open heart, “After a difficult day the smiles from my children remind me how important family is to all of us” Robin’s brother died in unexpected circumstances 21 years ago and due to the supportive experience his family had with the funeral home it inspired him to enter the industry. Funeral service is a service in our community that very few people wish to use, however,

it is important to use a professional that is experienced and trusted, as you would any other professional service. A new funeral home in Arana Hills has been recently opened to allow Robin to serve the community he lives in. George Hartnett Metropolitan Funerals have a combined 145 years of experience and the office is a gentle environment to discuss funerals. His passion for the work he does has not diminished over the years he has invested, Robin has only become more committed. Justin Greger

Owner/Operator - Sweatmonkey Fitness Adventure, fitness and a love for the outdoors are the ways you would describe how Justin Greger loves to spend his time. Justin developed his love for the outdoors and exercise growing up on the land in Africa, where many training hours were spent swimming in dams and running through bushland. Weight training was offloading feed trucks and general hard labour and a workout certainly wasn’t measured by time but by when the job was done. Countless hours were spent walking and trekking and he loves nothing more than to help you get strong and fit and take you on adventures to places you’ve never been. Kayaking is his first love and you will find him on the water whenever there is a gap in his schedule.

sweatmonkeyfitness

His favourite adventure is paddling with a group to the spectacular Moreton Island. After emigrating to Australia in 2002 he worked as a farm hand “out west” for a couple of years before deciding to have a career change and join the Australian Army. After 10 years in the Army it was time to settle into one location and Sweatmonkey was born. He brings a simple, caring, no bulldust approach to training at the “Sweatmonkey Fitness & Adventure Centre” in Everton Hills and to the many adventures he leads in the local area and internationally. If you are looking for a realistic, honest approach to fitness or you love a little adventure, Sweatmonkey will be right up your alley.

CX Set For Samford

Finding your family:

a beginner’s course in research

Have you ever thought about researching your family history? Now is a great time to get a thorough grounding in the basics.

Australia’s leading cyclo-cross riders will be on show at Samford for Rounds 5 & 6 of the 2018 MTBA Cyclo-Cross National Series on the weekend of July 21-22. It’s the second straight year Samford has hosted rounds of the national CX Series, with more than 200 riders expected to race across the weekend at the Baden Powell Reserve. MTBA CEO Shane Coppin said the organisation was keen to return to the popular race venue. ‘The support and interest we have received in cyclo-cross has allowed us to bring two national series rounds back to a venue which has received plenty of praise from riders,’ said Mr. Coppin. There will be over 200 competitors and officials expected to attend and more than 400 spectators set to be present at the event. World cup experienced riders such as Chris Jongewaard, Garry Millburn, Natalie Redmond and local favourite Zach Larsson will compete across the weekend.

Mitchelton Garden Club General Orchid Culture is the topic of the guest speaker, Chris Duffy, at the meeting of the Mitchelton and Districts Garden Club on 2nd August at the Enoggera Memorial Hall. Some folk are hesitant when it comes to growing orchids, but given the correct conditions, orchids thrive and produce beautiful blooms over a long life span. Home gardeners can grow a variety of orchids in simple shade houses, sheltered spots, out in the open in pots, in the ground or attached to trees that don’t shed their bark. Usually the ones in trees are grown in the fork of a tree. Broadly speaking, there are two classes of orchids – the

terrestrial which grows in soil, such as the vanda, or crucifix orchid, etc. and the epiphyte which grows with aerial roots, such as the dendrobium - one of which is Queensland’s floral emblem, the Cooktown Orchid. Orchids growing on trees gain nourishment from the air and liquid draining from decayed matter which settles in the tree fork. Other epiphytes may be grown in pots in a very open well drained potting mix containing some pine bark and charcoal. When the roots of these grow in abundance outside the pot, it indicates it is time to repot. This happens about every two years. This type of orchid requires a regular spray of suitable liquid fertilizer. This club meets on the first Thursday of the calendar month. Meetings commence after morning tea which is served at 9.45 a.m. Visitors and new members are most welcome. For more information please phone Pat, the president, on 3356 1256.

Arana Netball July News

Re-grading occurred in the Downey Park netball meets on the third Monday of each month, with meetings being competition mid-season, with Arana teams being open for all interested to attend. After the 16th July meeting, the next will incorporate the Annual General Meeting on 20th affected directly and indirectly. The main affect on Arana teams was Arana 8, moved from 11Years Div.5 to Div. 4, and then to Div. 3. This team is still recording victories, a great feat in the higher grade. Several other Arana teams are also looking good in their play, sitting at or near the top of their respective ladders as they prepare for the last few games of fixtures. These are Arana 1 (Division 6), Arana 3 (Intermediate 6), Arana 4 and Arana 5, both Cadet teams, and Arana 7 (12Yrs Div. 7.) Arana 6 (13Yrs Div. 6), has also maintained their position in the top 4 on the ladder with some wins and some losses. The biggest mover among Arana Netball teams at this time has been Arana 1, recording a loss and a draw in the first few games, but having now enjoyed six straight wins, to propel them to second on the table. After the mid-year break, to cover the school holiday period, fixtures recommence on Saturday 21st July, with the run to the finals, so at this point, seven of Arana Netball's competitive teams should make the final playoffs. Finals start on 18th August, with Grand Final day on Saturday 1st September. Some Arana teams have taken the opportunity to nominate and play in local association carnivals, at Pine Rivers and Downey Park, and later in the season the Brisbane Netball Association at Chermside - this set for Sunday 5th August. Arana Netball Club is run by volunteers, including managers, coaches, and umpires, and Committee members. The committee

August. As always it is vital that people make the effort to attend this meeting and even to consider taking on a role in the club. For people looking for volunteer work, joining local clubs like this is a great way to contribute to the community. Meetings are held in the Arana Sports meeting room, at the front of the Hills District Community Centre, Dawson Parade, Arana Hills and commence at 7.30pm. On the Grounds at St ‘Sporty’ William’s

The Hills Players Inc Presents

We celebrate many different aspects of school life at St William’s.

We celebrate a love of learning by taking risks, sharing feedback, aiming high and accepting challenges, being creative and innovative, knowing what we are learning and why, by persisting when stuck, having compassion and empathy, by being questioners, and by collaborating and being great problem solvers. Another aspect we celebrate is our sporting successes. If you’re into sports then St William’s is the place to be. Our John Eales oval is home to our many sporting events; double tennis court, long jump pit, 200 metre running track, cricket pitch and nets, and still space to run, play and sit under our beautiful gum trees. Last week we held our annual Athletics Carnival. What a show of skill and sportsmanship we witnessed. Three records were broken in High Jump, Long Jump (two for Steele, Year 4) and another in High Jump (Amber, Year 6). A wonderful effort from all of our children. From our Carnival, 37 students will go on to represent St William’s at the North West District Athletics Carnival and then the Zones Carnival. The children have been busy in Term 2 competing in our school Cross Country, North West District and Zone Cross Countries, Athletics Carnivals and North West District Sports and not to mention our children who have excelled in their personal sporting achievements. At St William’s we inspire a love of sport and sportsmanship.

Constantly Exhausted and Overwhelmed?

Brought to you by Banksia Womens Healing Centre Do you have 1. Emotional Outbursts 2. Uncontrollable Tears 3. Irrational Irritability or Anger

Many women experience these emotions daily, soldiering on no matter what. Continuing each day as other people rely on them to function, regardless of how physically tired or emotionally exhausted they are. The truth is, you don’t have to continue this way! Feeling tired all the time, overwhelmed, makes you reactive to the people you love. There is a risk of becoming burnt out with illness such as thyroid and digestive issues increasing every day that you operate at this heightened state of stress and emotion. How can you get past this state of constant exhaustion? Motivation is difficult when energy is low. You may believe you eat well however are these foods correct for your body? Possibly you exercise but it seems that your energy is continually drained. By the end of the day, ready to collapse on the lounge until the routine starts again, dreading the roundabout of tomorrow. To make matters worse everywhere you look there are women around you who seem to be coping okay. So why aren't you? Truth-be-known, women are good at pretending. The reality is that many women experience the exact same feelings of exhaustion and riding the emotional roller-coaster every single day and hide it really well. Therefore you are not alone. There are women just like you. Some of these women have made it to the other side and

learnt how to be energised, happy, and healthy. Facing each day energised with joy, creating a happier family, work life balance. In fact, you can meet women who have experienced just that. Women who have overcome barriers through our one stop healing haven, Banksia Women's Healing Centre. Take the first step to help you. Call the team 3351 4691 for our special introductory offer of $59 to have your personal solution mentioning this add.

STREET SWAGS HELP!

Winter has officially started and with temperatures getting below zero in some areas of the country, for some people a swag is a matter of life and death. It helps to create a barrier from the freezing wet conditions, to survive the night and to reduce illnesses from sleeping outdoors without adequate protection. Street Swags is a Charity situated in Brisbane’s Northern Suburbs that provides emergency basic waterproof bedding for those who are sleeping rough in Queensland and around Australia. Street Swags are asking the community to get behind them and anyone who is able to, to donate or to ‘Gift a Swag’ to someone in need. They rely solely on donations to provide their service to those who are sleeping rough around the country. With demand higher than ever this Winter they really need your help. For more information or to donate please visit www. streetswags.org/street-swags

Communities helping communities

Aaron ‘Aza’ Baldacchino with Willmore Kindy kids and their donations.

Page 34 - July 2018, The Hills Echo

Willmore Kindergarten and Preschool prides itself on its wonderful connections with Indigenous Elders and groups in the local area. Throughout June, the Willmore community collected pre-loved bikes and scooters for children of indigenous communities in Warburton, Western Australia. Locals in the Hills District community have donated 28 bikes and scooters to Willmore and a lovely Samford local donated a trailer for the bikes to be transported in. Willmore’s Director, Mrs Linda Meinicke, believes that helping communities demonstrates to the children to think beyond our own families. ‘The project has initiated lots of discussions with the children about our indigenous communities.’ Mrs Meinicke said, ‘We are overwhelmed by people’s kindness and we hope to connect with the recipients so the children can see the outcome of our community’s generosity.’ Aaron ‘Aza’ Baldacchino is the man behind the initiative and uncle to a student at Willmore. Aza has travelled the multi-tracks throughout central Australia and engaged with many of the indigenous communities along the way. ‘People within these communities are shy, so I use my background in dance to initiate interaction with the people.’ ‘These communities don’t have a lot, Warburton has the largest number of children in central Western Australia. A small act of kindness like this can bring joy to the community.’ With the attitude, ‘you can help everyone’, Aza is on a misson to help Australia’s indigenous communities and to show and tell them that the city people really do care. Aza will be delivering the bikes and scooters on behalf of Willmore and the local community later this month July. www.hillsecho.com

COUNSELLOR’S COLUMN with Robin Botic

Dear Robin, We are having ex-wife troubles and I want to know how to deal with it. Normally our co-parenting relationship is pretty good, but every so often John’s ex-partner comes up with new schemes she wants to implement with regard to their son’s activity or schooling. She wants us to go along unilaterally with her ideas no matter how much it impacts on our lives. She is not nice when we don’t agree. John’s son, whom I dearly love, and do a lot for very willingly, has a mild physical condition (low muscle tone) which is affecting his school performance and energy levels. His ex-wife (Joan) came up with the bright idea that martial arts classes would be good for him, and wanted us to follow through in taking him to classes when it is our week to have him. John tacitly agreed with her without first consulting me. This scenario has caused arguments between us in the past. I feel he should consult me before he says anything to her. I have been willing to fill in in the past, but we now have a nine-month-old daughter, and I have just established her sleep routine around picking up John’s son from school, as I do each day of our week. The extra time required to fit in these two martial arts classes each week, after school, will totally disrupt our daughter’s sleep routine. I’m not willing to do this, and when I return to work, it would be impossible anyway. It is also ridiculously difficult for my husband to attend to this. It is very easy for his wife to do, as her time is flexible and this does not disrupt her life in any great way. John says he wants a harmonious relationship with Joan for his son’s sake. I know and respect this and appreciate that he wants to do his best, but I also feel he is not standing up to Joan enough, or really considering our daughter, myself, and the effects her demands have on our relationship. I do want to support his son and be fair about it, but I don’t feel this is the way. Any suggestions? Chrissy.

to feel how that feels for him. You’re both the meat in the sandwich while you allow Joan’s demands to cause friction between you. She cannot expect that you have to follow through in your home, in your time, with John’s son, what she chooses to do. That is your decision. In forming a united front in regard to these types of demands, I suggest your husband first meets her requests with expressions of willingness to look at what she is asking for, but also with the acknowledgment that he will not be able to make any decision until he has first consulted you and that you both have been able to work out a) whether you want to do it; b) whether you can do it; and c) if there is not another solution that you both can come up with that is a more practical solution that will meet the same end. I would also get your husband to detail exactly how this request impacts on your lives. Your daughter’s routine is a priority at this stage, and the family’s less essential activities need to be more flexible around her at this early stage of her life. Look at times when you could fit in extra-curricular activities when your husband is home from work or Saturday mornings. Martial arts may be useful for discipline and concentration, but it is not necessarily the best solution for his condition. It is difficult trying to facilitate activities and meet the needs of two very different life stages in children. Income Tax Relief Delivered

You will soon start to benefit from income tax relief; that means paying less tax and being rewarded for your hard work, now and into the future. The passing of the Personal Income Tax plan in Parliament ensures that taxes are lower, fairer and simpler. The legislated tax plan has three steps: 1. Tax relief for low and middle income earners 2. Lifting tax brackets to lessen the impact of ‘bracket creep’ 3. Simplifying personal taxes by removing an entire tax bracket Our plan means a tax system that works for all Australians and rewards those who work hard.

Guaranteeing Health Services

The Government is guaranteeing the essential health services that we all rely on and this is demonstrated by the record funding announced in the last Budget. A further $35.3 billion has been credited to the Medicare Guarantee Fund for the Medicare Benefits Schedule and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, in addition to the $34.4 billion credited for 2017-18. Also included was $1.4 billion for new lifesaving and changing medicines, including Kisqali for breast cancer and Spinraza for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Volunteer Grants

Recently the Federal Government announced the upcoming round of Volunteers Grants expected to open in August so I encourage local community groups to start thinking about their application.

www.hillsecho.com

Volunteers are the backbone of our community and I am delighted that we are able to recognise their worthwhile contribution through this grant program. Grants between $1000 to $5000 will be available to help towards the cost of essential items that help make volunteering easier and safer. Equipment, training, transport and background screening are just a number of things that the grant money can assist with. Closer to the opening of applications more information will become available.

Local artisans and craftspeople will be selling their unique creations and local entertainers will be roving the fair. From puppet shows to storytellers and musicians, our festival has something for everyone. Nutritious food is always a highlight of festiValley. As well as two school-run cafés and a Chai Tent in the main festival space, there will be a café in the kindergarten where parents and carers with small children can relax in an enclosed play space. Ryan News

from your Federal Member for Ryan: JANE PRENTICE

Extending the Instant Asset Write-off

The Turnbull Government is continuing to back small business by extending the $20,000 instant asset write-off for a further 12 months, to 30 June 2019. Around 3.3 million small businesses across the country with an annual turnover of less than $10 million are eligible to access the write-off. The extension of this initiative will benefit hardworking small businesses in Ryan, improve their cash flow and provide a boost to business activity and investment for another year.

Supporting People with Disability

The Government is looking after Australians with disability and as a result of responsible economic management, our 2018 Budget has now fully funded the NDIS. The Budget also provided $92.6m to ensure Australians who were users of Commonwealth services but not eligible for the NDIS would continue to receive support. People with disability in Ryan will receive more support in their search for a job through increased Government funding to new and existing Disability Employment Service (DES) providers from 1 July. There will be 23 DES providers in Ryan offering more choice for people with disability. The Government will invest more than $3 billion in DES over the next four years. For more information, visit www.jobaccess. gov.au We are also providing more than $233m for Local Area Coordination (LAC) services for people with disability aged seven and older through the NDIS, and Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) services for children under six.

Local Area Coordinators assist NDIS participants with information and referral to supports in the community, and help participants with their NDIS plans. ECEI services include short term, targeted speech and occupational therapy, information about community and mainstream services, support for families and carers, and assistance to access the NDIS. Carers Queensland will deliver LAC services and the Benevolent Society will provide ECEI supports in Ryan.

Australian Aid: Friendship Grants

We recently launched the Australian Aid: Friendship Grants program which will bring community organisations into the Australian aid program by providing funding to expand or enhance their international development activities. Round One is now open and I encourage all interested and eligible community organisations to apply. For more information, visit: www.dfat.gov.au/FriendshipGrants

The Ferny Report Mark Furner M.P. State Member for Ferny Grove

State budget delivers on election commitments

The 2018/19 State Budget has delivered a strong education focus for Ferny Grove with local electorate schools benefiting from over $4 million in the next twelve months alone for classroom upgrades and maintenance works. All of our local schools will receive much needed repairs and improved facilities while some will receive entirely new learning areas. Headlining this investment in education is the rejuvenation works at Mitchelton and Ferny Grove State High Schools in the budget. This will see an investment of over $10 million in each school in this term of government. This investment delivers on commitments I gave at the 2017 election. In addition, Ferny Grove State High School will become host to a new $18 million Centre of Excellence to cater for the growing student population in the area. The Treasurer Jackie Trad, Education Minister Grace Grace, Executive Principal John Schuh and school leaders joined me at the school last month to make the announcement (see photo). Construction of the Centre of Excellence is expected to be completed by 2020. Another of my election promises this budget delivers on is the surfacing of the overflow carpark at Grovely State School. The overflow carpark area has long been a bugbear for parents. The new design will solve not only the problem of bogged cars after heavy rain but will provide a new setdown area for early morning drop-offs. The plans are now complete and awaiting Department of Education approval.

Samford Road review update

Since early last year the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has been conducting a traffic flow review of Samford Road from Dawson Pde to Imbross St. With the data-gathering and computer modelling phase of the review now complete I am pleased to report the Palaszczuk Government has allocated an extra quarter of a million dollars to complete the business cases for the project. TMR will present its business cases to Minister Mark Bailey later this year for his consideration
