From the Pastor My grown up children have for many years complained about what to buy Dad for Christmas or my birthday because as they say, I already have everything. That got me thinking about God – what could we possibly give to God who can create a universe and is truly in need of nothing? In Isaiah 61, Jesus is spoken of as the servant of the Lord who comes to help all people. He’s appointed to save sinners and anointed with the power to be able to do it. And we are told, he comes to receive something from us. What does Jesus who has everything want from us? Allow me to have some licence with what Isaiah says. We are to give him our poor spirits that have been robbed of any righteousness by sin. We are to give him our broken hearts crushed by the cumulative weight of our mistakes and blunders. We are to give him the shackles Satan has locked on us sentencing us to guilt and grief. We are to give him our tears of mourning, our ashes of repentance, and our spirits of despair. That’s what we are to give to Jesus. And, in his mercy, Jesus is thrilled to give us something in return. He gives us the good news that we are the chosen winners of his riches of salvation. He replaces our broken hearts with a perfectly functional one that pumps forgiveness and eternal life into every breath. He purchases our ticket to freedom from temptation’s power and death’s grave. He provides everlasting comfort and places a beautiful crown on our heads that lets Satan know we share in ruling in God’s kingdom. He pours perfumed oil on us for a joyful celebration of his grace and covers us from head to toe with his own glory. It doesn’t get much better than that. Allowing Jesus to come into your life, I think, is pretty much a nobrainer. What are you waiting for? Until next time,
Larry

Take your marks, go for Ferny Hills Pool upgrade
Moreton Bay Regional Council has awarded a $1.9 million tender for the construction of a new indoor learn to swim pool at Ferny Hills.
Following extensive community consultation on the Ferny Hills Pool in 2016, council would construct a new .multi-purpose 10x15m indoor heated swimming pool to complement the complex’s existing 50m outdoor lap pool.
The new pool will be heated and covered and replace the existing outdoor learn to swim pool, providing more opportunities for locals to use the space and for programs like learn to swim. The pool will also feature all abilities amenities including ramps and accessible bathrooms as well as greater storage capacity with a new equipment room. Once complete, the pool would be open to the community for a wide range of uses including learn to swim, aqua aerobics, water walking, remedial exercises and leisure swimming. Construction of the new pool will begin in coming weeks and be completed in late 2017, weather permitting. The modern pool will complement existing facilities at the Ferny Way complex and is part of council’s overall $32.5 million commitment in 2016/17 towards sport, recreation and parks.

Thrills for mountain bikers on new tracks in Brisbane’s north-west
New tracks from the Lomandra mountain-biking hub at Samford Conservation Park in Brisbane’s north-west are proving a winner with local mountain-bikers. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) had removed old infrastructure and built four new mountain-bike tracks at Lomandra, including links to the existing track network in Samford Conservation Park. Member for Ferny Grove Mark Furner said the upgrade was welcome with demand for facilities in the area increasing along with the popularity of mountain biking. ‘Bunyaville Conservation Park is a hot spot for the activity on the northside, and QPWS wanted to encourage riders to use other parks in the area,’ Mr Furner said. Lomandra has become extremely popular, with rave reviews on usergroup websites, and parking at capacity on weekends. More details about tracks in conservation parks and State forests are available at www.npsr.qld.gov.au

Team Selection proceeding for Arana Netball Club
Arana Netball Sign-on was held on 29th January, but this year it has been easier than before to register on-line, so many players have opted to join up in this manner. Non-competitives (8-10 year olds, born 2007-2009) must now register with their club online via MyNetball. If anyone wanting to play with Arana Netball this year has been unable to do the online registration and did not come to Sign-on to sort it out, you need to contact the Club immediately – Nathan (Registrar) on 0433 810 308 or Lorraine (President) on 3882 2900 or 0432 216 407. Selection trials for respective age groups are running through the first part of February, and details of when to attend are provided to players when signing on, and are also available on Facebook and the web site www.arananetballclub.com. au. To ensure a place in a team
players must attend trials: anyone who has a reason that makes this impossible needs to let the Club know before their trial is conducted. This year Arana Netball Committee have further revised methods and policies for selecting teams, in the hope that the process may improve more and more each year. This year, there are fewer trial sessions for each age group, but trialling sessions may run for longer. Following the completion of trials, teams will be named and meet their coaches, so that training can begin as soon as possible, in preparation for fixtures at Downey Park, which commence on Saturday 25 th March. Correct Club uniform must be worn at fixtures, so anyone who needs a uniform and has not bought or ordered it yet, needs to contact the Uniform Convenor, Kym, on 0407 038 913.
Arana Netball Club holds monthly meetings, for Committee members and all others interested in the running and future of the Club to attend. These meetings are currently held at the Arana Leagues Club – upstairs in the Board Room. Meetings commence at 7.30pm, with the next scheduled for Monday 20th February. With 2017 marking forty years since Arana Netball Club was formed, planning is underway for events during the year to celebrate this milestone. It is hoped that community support and attendance by people associated with the Club in the past will make these celebrations even better. Be on the lookout for more details about these events as details are finalised – see the Facebook page or web site. With any other queries about Arana Netball Club, email arananetballclub@gmail. com.
Have you seen the ‘ParkSafe’ vehicles around?
To attempt to keep our schools safe this new school year, Moreton Bay Regional Council have released ‘ParkSafe’ vehicles in an effort to ramp up community education around school precincts. The highly visible, brightly coloured vehicle, will aim to provide a visual reminder for motorists to do the right thing on council-controlled roads and only park safely in designated spaces for the time allocated.
