SMART CITY APP O2 DISCOVER 12 WEEKS/GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL WORK

“ To design an app that improves smar t city living in connec tion with O2 We began the projec t in groups researching into fac tors from the brief. We decided on mak ing a social app to improve cit y living for those who feel socially isolated or alone, as it is a big problem at the moment in large cities. We each inter viewed par ticipants and contributed to general research. Once all the research was complete we then began our individual work , which is the designing of the app.

HAND BLENDER RE-DESIGN S O U PA 15 WEEKS/GROUP PROJECT

“ To re - design a produc t to improve it s su st ainabilit y, ergo no m ic s an d co nte nts. ” We were given a Tesco’ s own brand hand blender to re-design, We started the project through reverse engineering by analysing and disassembling the product to find out key information such as materials, sustainability, ergonomics and manufacture. From here we then had to come up with and design an innovative re-design for the hand blender. To make it more innovative we looked into various other functions, which led to the idea of a multi purpose blender/ soup maker, which is SOUPA

RESEARCH A N A LY S I S O F E X I S T I N G H A N D B L E N D E R Through testing the product we found that users with small hands found it diffiuclt to use due to its size, the button was in an awkward placement so holding it for a long period of time was uncomfortable and keeping the blender stable whilst in use was difficult wihtout using both hands. As well as this, although the product was in a low price range it offered very limited functions and performnce was not as good as others in the market.

D I S S A S E M B LY From disassembling the product we were able to get a closer look at the parts and materials and see how it was manufactured. We found most of the parts had been injection moulded and all the electric components were in the top of the product making it top heavy and unstable.

TA P AT TAT C H M E N T TORRENT 1 WEEK/ INDIVIDUAL PROJEC T

“ To design a produc t to improve domestic household chores. This could be to add greater enjoyment to a task, convenience or func tionality. The produc t should add value to either cleaning or k itchen ac tivities in the home To answer the brief I firstly began the projec t by look ing at time consuming and problematic household tasks and from here developed several ideas. I found that washing dishes is the most per formed chore in the majorit y of households and of ten leads to too much water usage. I therefore came up with a solution to aid this, which is Torrent.

PRODUCT FEATURES The product has three settings; Spray, Mist and Jet. When the outer body is turned clockwise the rotating disc inside turns with it. This changes the alignment of the holes on this disc with the holes on the stationary disc below. Therefore leading to a change in water pressure, which are the three settings . The UV light on the bottom of the attachment is activated when the moisture sensor inside detects water passing through. This then shines onto the dishes

“ To design an improved version of my produc t from Alevel projec tMake a multi-func tional furniture produc t ” I gave myself a week to complete this projec t, i firstly star ted by identifying the problems with my previous design. i came up with some key insights as having manufac tured the original chair i could visually see what i needed to address, the main problem being the size and weight of the produc t. I took these insights into consideration and began designing an improved version. Which led to ‘Combee’ a more compac t and easy to use produc t.
