WHAT IS VITAMIN D?
There are two major types of Vitamin D: • Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is made by plants • Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is made by humans in the skin when it is exposed to sunlight. It can also be ingested from animal sources. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. It is a key nutrient in the maintenance of bone health in children and adults. Additionally, research suggests that vitamin D may provide protection from osteoporosis, hypertension (high blood pressure), cancer, and several autoimmune diseases. HOW DO OUR BODIES MAKE VITAMIN D?
