“To make a plan is to determine and fix ideas.” Towards a New Architecture, 1923, Le Corbusier

“The business of architecture is to establish emotional relationships by means of raw materials. Architecture goes beyond utilitarian needs. Architecture is a plastic thing. The building site is located on a block between the via Padova and Naviglio Martesana channel, giving the opportunity of several environments necesarry to the area. Via Padova is an important axis in the northeastern part of Milan, connecting the city with the suburban region, while the Naviglio Martesana channel is a calm venue suitable for promenades, outdoors exercising, and relaxing.

Academic Project Architectural Design Studio 2 Project topic: Apartment house complex with a market Location: Via Padova, Milan Year: 2019, November 2020, June Mentors: Giulia Setti Giovanni Bassi Ana Veljkovic Giuseppe Pastonesi Giovanni Gualdrini With: Andon Gochev Software: Revit, Autocad, Photoshop, InDesign, Model-making

The project lies on two primary volumes - a lower volume towards the Naviglio Martesana channel housing commercial spaces, and a higher volume towards va Padova, with a residential function, serving as a division between the two environments. Close to the channel is a contemporary building with a roof starting from ground level, housing a food market and a pavilion suitable for exhibitions and gatherings. The building located in the middle of the site, is a residential building, featuring an open ground floor, an external staircase, and void spaces in the volume in order to allow better natural light distribution. It has eight apartments with areas of 30, 60 and 100 square meters. The residential building towards via Padova features a partially open ground floor, providing a connection with the channel side in the form of pedestrian passages. It has two volumes, five and three floors with apartments with areas of 60, 90 and 110 square meters. Each apartment has at least one loggia.

Housing in Milan

24 I Social Housing

Social Housing I 25

The plot is well connected to the surrounding areas. Adaptable design has been considered, that is suitable for all the prospective users from the athletes to the students after the 2026 Winter Olympics. Considering the industrial past of the context, we also decided to experiment with adopting the office typology to the one of residential function by taking its regular façade and simple volumes and using it as a strategy to create both public and private spaces inside each building.

Academic Project Building Technology Studio Project topic: Olympic Village and Student Housing Location: Via Brembo, Milan Year: 2020, March 2020, July Mentors: Andrea Tartaglia Giovanni Castaldo Silvia Moretti Andrea Fossati With: Ming Yang Mehmet Ocak Andon Gochev Software: Revit, Autocad, Photoshop, InDesign

Buildings are arranged based on the analysis of the local sunlight condition. Pavements are set for convenient circulation. Trees will be transplanted as a way to bring the nature into the district. The building is based on the classic layout of basilica which represents ancient Italian architectural achievement. The middle skyligh permits sunlight in and keeps the rainwater out. Openings and balconies are created to adjust sunlight conditions at a detail. The technological solutions apply to the users and support high quality living envirnoment. The building is supported by a reinforced concrete framework system. For the foundation, the concrete piled-raft foundation is selected. The ground floor slab is to be cast and equipped on site. Roof slab will be prefabricated. Exterior walls are characterized by lightweight concrete blocks and ventilated facade. For the change from Olympic to Student housing, a stair shafts will be removed to expose central staircases.

Peace and Green I 33

Residences for artists emerged in recent years as one of the most relevant and consistent phenomena on the Italian contemporary art scene, intended as places where artists are hosted with the aim of stimulating research and the production of new artworks into creative environment. The project of the dwelling is imagined as part of a hospitality programme for artists related to Villa Panza and to its collection, it is conceived as a place for intercultural meeting, social ex-change and territorial integration.

Academic Project Interior Design Studio Project topic: Dwelling for an artist in residence Location: Villa Panza, Varese Year: 2020, October 2021, January Mentors: Yuri Mastromattei Cristina F. Colombo Francesco D’Aloisio Valentina Voltolin

The project of the dwelling is situated in the office wing courtyard of the villa, surrounded by planted trees, it is designed as open-air interior. The volume replies to the plot in simple solutions and results the plot into peace and green. The design of the dwelling is characterized by an archetypical form of two-sloped roof hut, making it primitive in form. Exterior walls and roof are dressed in burned timber, while interior side is in light materials to reflect sunlight in its compact size. Structure is supported by wooden system and allows it to be to be installed and uninstalled.

The project site is situated next to the University Campus, well connected to the surrounding areas and city center. In relation to the existing campus, new spaces for study, recreational and physical activities are needed. This is used as an opportunity to provide an open interior to the plot while connecting it to context.

Project topic: University Campus Location: Politecnico di Milano Campus Leonardo da Vinci Year: 2021, March 2021, July Mentors: Federico Bucci Emilio Faroldi Maria Pilar Vettori Davide Allegri Marta Cognigni Fancesca Dapra Tomas Maria Lopez Luca Tamburini

The project work was started from the idea of “Leisure, Culture and Sports”. Considering the context and the shape of the plot, the project is divided into three parts for Mind, Soul and Body, respectively. Left part of the plot is served for mainly leisure activities while the middle part is focused on the cultural activities for the Soul. Right part is reserved for all kinds of different sports and activities that speak to the Body. An approach to the system can be characterized as protected to the high-traffic outside, at the meanwhile providing a spacious inside. Pool pavilion is the main focus of our project. Plans and facades include regular grid strategy that allow to include various functions inside the project site.
