One summer in Vitebsk, you fell in love with a security guard at a music festival. When it was time to go home, you fell into despair. You got on the train in tears. Grandma served lunch. You always liked to eat in trains. After lunch, despair was replaced by a pleasant warm feeling, the young security guard became more like a ghost. The train kept moving gently forward.

Once I found a cigarette in your backpack and told our Mum. How mad she was! I'm still embarrassed.

And you’ve always tended to be so stubborn.

From our first and only trip to Germany we brought a film of the penguins from the zoo, a couple photos of us drinking beer and a bizarre Bavarian house. Papa is still disappointed in us.

You and Mum have the same chuckle. It's always in my head.

You are still a thing of mystery to me.
