How will we live together?
A Proposed Installation for the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, curated by architect and scholar Hashim Sarkis. The world is putting new challenges in front of architecture, finding solutions to how we are going to rise to these challenges. Answering to a rudimentary interogation of How will we live together?
15 02 KNOT
Installation - Architecture Exbition
Though at first glance it might seem as the answer to the question,
Can we live together?
is addled, the fact is that we already live together—watching the same television programs, buying the same clothes, and even using the same language to communicate within continents. we live together only to the extent that we make the same gestures and use the same objects— do we not communicate with one another in a meaningful way or govern ourselves together.
PROXEMICS - The amount of space that people feel is necessary to connect between themselves and others.
Each individuals proximity on differs based on their Geography, Family origin and life itself.
The Intersection of proxeme between two or more individual/ things is what has created interaction, brought and kept us togeather. To extend these proxemics in terms of Equity Inclusion and Social Identity, in realtion of a individual to space could be the key to answer. With a question, how? example : a park, a public square, an amphitheater.

A public space that can be felt to tame itself: can be considered private, a place of meeting and exchange, bond and reception, where personal experience works for a collective history.
A Silenced zone where individuals sway to the tune along light on their headphones, where every tune and light is coupled with another individual creating passive connection. A person has the liberty to choose to interact or connect with a coupled or any individual.
The tendency towards growing economic inequalities, Political divides and the increasingly secretarian nature of our social identities as members of ethnic, religious, national groups is rapidly becoming a part of our lives.
The more people, the stronger the light.
Like a daisy chain of human contact, the more people, the brighter and faster the light. Indicating that human energy is one of the most energised place on earth.

The proposed space runs along the lenght and width of the existing structure. The angled roof profile creates identity and spatial drama to both the inside and outside. While the space behind the existing tapers to the other side.
The courtyards and green pockets are scooped out of the tapered structure to let in light and ventilation. Which is essentially a feature of the surrounding vernacular language.
24 Existing structure Proposed structure
Pulling the expansiveness of sky, life around the green down till the courtyard and outspreading it along the house, by adding architectures most elemental feature in it’s very nomenclature.
The arch.
An Arch speaks about openings, beginning and stepping through certain perspectives to see what’s on the other side. Structures with deep resonance. They embody openness within destiny. Fundamentally masculine.
Courtyard that brings light, rain and life.
A concept that is deeply in constant with ministries of hospitality and worship brought language to the design. The interior is composed of scooped and thrown arches, Unrestricted walk through spaces, an open plan yet contradictory to a straight forward single volume.
The house spontaneously responds to its surroundings by choosing to dwell upon gratifying punctures and green pockets.

The whole design exercise has been perceived to be crafted, block by block. The Indian office space in a city has been interpreted to be as local and human as possible.
The façade showcases the finesse and richness of traditional crafts and celebrating local craftsmen. The open corner of the plot faces south and west directions. To reduce the heat gain from these sides, the façade has been recessed and partially covered with brick jaalis. Which in turn also gives a solid language to the structure.
The design process operates by picking up cues from different aspects such as the client, brief, site and climate to create a meaningful narrative. This ‘narrative’ comes from a very human place, to create emotional value through design, rather than try to be ‘different’ for the sake.
34
The physical form intends to be simple. The design tries to create a relatable scale, for people moving on the street. The frontage towards the main street softens the boundary between the street and the built-form– adding to the ‘approachable’ human scale.
