Challenge: Work in a team consisting of three people to complete a downtown boutiď ąue hotel renovation and specifications package. The building to undergo renovations is 18 levels which possess the hotel lobby, a retail space, guestroom levels, and a rooftop bar and grill.

Solution: The hotel is located in Miami, Florida and situated in the most desirable of locations the city has to offer. Inspiration for the hotel is derived from Miami's very own Wynwood Walls District for street arts. This district is one of the world's largest open-air street-art installations. The hotel is simply designed to serve as a premise for the display of local artist's masterpieces. The town's locals and it's visitors alike are drawn to the hotel's gallery like atmosphere.

Concept: Wynwood Walls, while only a small portion of Miami's arts district, is a specific area known for its encompassing of multiple warehouse buildings used to showcase street art and graffiti. Tony Goldman, the visionary of Wynwood Walls, set out to create an area that would bring attention to underappreciated art while also giving exposure to artists from all over the world. Stemming from Goldman's idea, The Plinth design intent is to create a space that exposes guests to all forms of art. The main goal is to fashion an art gallery essence throughout the entire hotel for guests and visitors to experience. By using vibrant colors against simple backgrounds the theme mimics that seen in a gallery with unconventional pieces of art displayed throughout.

Responsibilities: Research, Branding, Concept development, Space planning, Revit component building, Guestlevel renderings, Finish selections, Specifications, Maď ąuette building, and Model building

Challenge: Design an international restaurant based off of local culture. Using research specific to the restaurant's location, the creation of a space plan which has the ability to evolve throughout many processess becomes possible. The space plan, overall, should cater to a variety of seating arrangements while also containing elements that attract locals and visitors. Cohesiveness is a necesity when developing branding and restaurant ambiance.

Solution: Based on several design characteristics possessed by Sagrada Familia, a church located in Spain & built over two hundred years ago, different textures and materials are used to define spaces throughout and provide a variety of seating options for guests.

Dimensioned

Floor

Plan

Concept: The Sagrada Familia was built only using stone, and therefore not surprisingly, the structure possess twenty-two different stone types. The church might be what some consider a model for the use of stone in architecture today. Architect, Antoni Gaudi, left the people of his country with more than a lasting impression just through his magnificent work. The church's structure is still, to date, under construction. Work on the Sagrada remains unceasing and the continuation takes place still using Gaudi's ideas. The rich history possessed by this architectural form of art serves as the inspiration for the design of the restaurant, while also emphasizing the structure's impact on the community which surrounds it. Much like Guadi leaving a lasting impression, PiEDRA 22 can be said to do the same. The design of the space is to be considered as part of the grand experience someone would receive upon dining here. Mimicking certain parts of the famous church, the restaurant possess designs which are able to specifically show off particular aspects of Guadi's design through the use of stone, neutral color schemes, and overall feelings the space evokes. The feeling of warmth and comfort to be had by all who visited the restaurant were two main goals shared and also seen being carried throughout the entire design process. With the use of multiple forms of recreation, PiEDRA 22 is able to offer it's customers a better sense of insight, through simplicity and closeness, into the mastermind behind Spain's Sagrada Familia. MAFES SALES STORE

Challenge:

Devolop a space which enhances the store's efficiency while also highlighting the provision of each product offered and representing the store's famously rich history. Address the store's need for more shipping space and product storage, while maintaining a floor plan which is easily navigated by customers and employees at the same time.

Concept: Slice is defined as a cut, portion, or share of an item. Located on MSU's Starkville campus, the MAFES Sales Store serves as a hub for the entire community. MSU's students, staff, and fan base can be depicted as a "family". The MAFES Sales Store encourages the urge to slice, or in other words, share the love and passion for MSU cheese, jellies, and sauces with the people one cares about the most. A combination of rustic materials and geometric lines echo the act of sharing. Years ago the store only produced nine balls of Edam cheese a day, and today MAFES produces over four hundred. With an ever increasing amount of products being made, open shelves provide adeď ąuate storage while also encouraging guests to interact. The design of a faceted wooden ceiling detail imitates the idea of sliced cheese. Easy navigation is carried out by linear lines that circulate guests throughout the store bringing them back to the cash wrap at the end of their visit.

Challenge: Participate in the NEXT Coworking competition and meet all programming reď ąuirements per the competition. Through intensive research of coworking spaces and Steelcase products, develop a design plan for an existing building in downtown Atlanta.

Solution: Through NEXT, provide the community with a forward-thinking coworking organization. Maintain design goals which include the accomplishment of a palette of place. The individual connection and overall unity of all spaces as a whole is essential. The provision of an innovative work environment paired with user choice creates a productive and welcoming space for a variety of users.

Concept: NEXT is a working environment which stands at the forefront of all collaborative coworking spaces. With the design of a space that allows users of all different professions and backgrounds to come together, NEXT is changing the way companies work. The functionality that the space possesses parallels to the way in which a kaleidoscope works. A kaleidoscope is an optical instrument in which bits of glass, held loosely at the end of a rotating tube, are shown in continually symmetrical forms by reflection in two or more mirrors set at angles to each other. The meaning of the term kaleidoscope can be translated to mean an observer of beautiful forms. These instruments have also been described as a continually changing pattern of shapes, colors or objects. The images of what the eye translates its view into when looking down into a kaleidoscope can be related back to the spaces as they are connected and unified, just like the kaleidoscope's production of images. A main design goal is the incorporation of a range of settings that encourage people to sit, stand or move throughout the day. This is accomplished through the use and placement of Steelcase products within the space. Reception &

Challenge: Using an existing building create and design the headuarters for a call center representing the company of your choice. Primary furniture selections should be Steelcase. The design of the space should provide employees that work in the space with a sense of pride. Research findings regarding call centers and ergonomics should remain a basis for all design decisions.

Level

One

Solution: Development of a space that meets all program reuirements for the number of employees to house in the call center area, work cafe, and private offices. Create unity among all the spaces regardless of position held in the company by the particular space's user.

Concept: Oodles is the top competitor amongst those in the paper making and recycling industry. From everyday basics such as pen and paper, all the way to recycled paper confetti, Oodles makes sure all of their customer's needs are met. This is ensured through the maintaining of a positive and upbeat work environment. Oodles started out as a company focused on the provision of doodle euipment and accesories. While doodles can make boring paper fun, Oodles now makes buying paper fun. It is proven that most doodles occur while on the phone, therefore the design of this company's call center revolved around not only its employee's content, but also interaction with the work environment that surrounds them daily. With the use and incorporation of many different interactive wall panels in several different places throughout the space, employees are encouraged to fully experience what is around them. Collaboration and connection amongst the employees was acheived through the incorporation of touch-down spaces located around the office.

Challenge: Work in an interdisciplinary team composed of students from their respective areas of study. Each team had students from interior design, buidling construction science, architecture, and graphic design. The project's main goal was the design and renovation of an existing building located in Starkville, MS. This goal was based upon catering to the wants and needs of Sweetgum Micro Brewery.

Solution: Develop a space that will allow for the potential of future expansion. The expansion is in terms of eď ąuipment and also the accomodation of brewery tours and staff needs. Address the site plan, LEED certification reď ąuirements, and overall appeal to the Starkville community and brewery owners.

Concept: The basis for the design of the space was centered upon Art and its meaning. Art may appear to some in the form of a study of specified skill, while to others it may be the application of human creative skill. These meanings are what inspired the decision to treat Sweetgum Brewing Company's production process as an artistic expression. The concept was translated into being through the design of the entire space. The use of a centralized floorplan with a rotary circulation was set in place to serve as a guide for the public and employees through the hihgly intricate brewing production. Also used as a means of expressing the overall concept was the placement and location of areas throughout the space. The up front positioning of the more public areas, such as the lobby which contains the merchandise counter, the main office, and bathrooms. Located behind a metal curtain partition, sits the production area with the process arranged around the tasting room which sits in the center of the space and is slightly elevated to serve as a better viewing platform for viewing the artful process of brewing.

Challenge: Using an existing building, create both a spa and dermatology clinic. Space planning reuirements must be met and include the number of patient rooms needed, the minimum seating for the waiting area, and overall the proximity from space to space.

Solution: Create and design two very distinct yet cohesive spaces for the spa and dermatology. The programming and research phases should be extensive while also defining private and public areas through paths of travel and use for each space.

Concept: Cross Springs, inspired by the hot springs in Bath, England, has many patient and employee focused goals. The main focus of the spa and dermatology clinic is to provide healing and comfort. The focus and determination driving this goal was derived from the story of a prince that was cured of his leprosy after bathing in the hot springs. The clinic's name was taken from one of the most infamously famous, healing hot springs in England. And, just like the springs in England, the clinic aims to provide a shelter for healing to all patients. The concept for the design of the space is driven throughout, and first seen when entering the doors. Patients are immediately greeted by a sea of cool and relaxing colors. Then, in the medical space, once patients are called from the waiting area they are led by hot spring inspired curved walls into the center of the space. This circular area provides not only way finding, but also privacy.
