Photo manipulation
Project Brief
Alzheimer's
Vans
Photo manipulation * In this brief; We are asked to take photographs and manipulate them within Photoshop to create various penguin book covers that ‘play with the impossible’ What is photo manipulation? The manipulation (altering, changing) of a photo using the computer i.e.; Photoshop or illustrator to create impossible/surreal images. Example artists Kyle Thompson, lizzy Elle, Steve Otto, fiddle oak, Odessa Sawyer.
Kyle Thompson
Was born in Chicago, January 11, 1992. he had taken photographs since the age of nineteen. His work is based around bizarre/surreal self portraits. Has had no formal education of photography.
Lizzy Elle Lizzy Elle is a Canadian photographer who creates surreal images within the woods and of herself defying gravity. She references a lot to tales within in her work for example possibly Alice in wonderland etc… ives between a cornfield and a tall forest, and frequently plays pretend in between them
Why have we chosen this brief?
* We picked this because the brief is very broad and the way that the images are composed is intriguing to the audience. * Because of technology available it is becoming easier to create surreal images with photo manipulation however it still appears highly impressive. So we have chosen this for the fact that we can play with the impossible.
Vans This project brief, asks of you to create a series of posters linking vans to skateboarding. Operating since 1966 this poster is to celebrate how many years vans have been around. * History * On march 16th 1966, in Anaheim, California, Paul Van Doren and three partners opened up their first ever store. The Van Doren Rubber Company was unique because it manufactured shoes and sold them directly to the public. * Skateboarders who liked Vans were seen sporting Vans all over Southern California in the early 1970s. In 1975, the Vans #95, With a padded collar and different colour combinations became the shoe of choice for a generation of skateboarders. * In 1979, Vans introduce the #44 shoe, and with the help of skateboarders and BMX riders the Vans Slip-‐On became all the rage in Southern California. * Vans today are still popular to all and attract both skate boarders, bmx riders and your average person.
Van Posters As shown with the examples below all of the posters are generally based around skateboarding promoting how effective vans are when you skateboard or go on a BMX. Designs of the posters are
generally rough and dark to match with the life of skateboarding
David Carson
Posters by David Carson are generally dark, rough, Messy. This gives his posters an edge and makes them More serious and also very realistic. From looking at these posters you know that the issues covered will be important. This links to designs that base around van posters because skateboarding, a sport intensively linked to vans shoes is known to be rough and messy just Like the design of these posters. Large black or white text is also incorporated in these designs which could be effective in a poster design of my own.
Why we have chosen this brief?
* The overall reasons we picked this brief were because it is straight-‐forward to obtain photographs of vans and those relating to them. It is also because creating a series of posters appealed to us a lot.
Alzheimer's
Also known in medical literature as Alzheimer disease, is the most common form of dementia. There is no cure for the disease.
All of these images relate to Alzheimer's. This is in the way that all of the images are blurred or distorted in some way. This is to convey memory loss that the victims of the disease experience.
Gerhard Richter Richter officially began painting in 1962. Here we give you access to his various works, ranging from oils on canvas to over painted photographs, and including the historical reference of photographs, Atlas.
Why have we chosen this brief? * This project is very close to our hearts. We both know people who have suffered from this illness and therefore we have first hand experience that can help us create interesting and realistic pieces.
