01 CONTRA COSTA COMMUNITY COMMONS Communual Oasis
ARCHI-100A: Fundamentals of Architectural Design Instructor: David Orkand Studio Instructor: Jasmit Rangr Completed: UC Berkeley | Fall 2020
The Contra Costa Community Commons is a public building that serves the local neighborhoods of El Cerrito and Richmond, as well as the greater Contra Costa and Bay areas. The main concept of this project is oasis which is mainly achieved by a central garden at the center of the space to bring the program together through comfort in enclosure.

02 PROTOTYPICAL CONSTRUCT Synthesis of Two Concepts
ARCHI-100A: Fundamentals of Architectural Design Instructor: David Orkand Studio Instructor: Jasmit Rangr Completed: UC Berkeley | Fall 2020
I used the two conceptual frameworks of offsetting and pushing/pulling to form a single formal structure. The resolution of this construct is critically positioned through the articulation of its architectural elements as well as the discretization of its external form. I add on to the experience of differing ceiling heights and spaces by the design operationsn of offsetting, which creates a large threshold of light coming into the rooms.

ORGANIC SHAPE
STRUCTURE
The site is located between Oracle Bay and the Chase Center. It is currently a parking lot at a critical pinch point.
The base is constructed up to five floors for the skyscraper to rest on. This is dedicated to the commerical program.
Two towers are extruded for two different purposes: one for residential and one for office use.
The basic forms become organic and morphic in shape for aerodynamics and wind resistance.
The structure is an exoskeleton placed on the exterior of the towers. This reduces the need for interior structure.

One Museum Tower
The prevailing idea that is taken from this precedent study is the green features of the building, which are the open-air gardens and balconies.
The exoskeleton serves as a functional and aesthetic purpose. This inspired our design intention to also have an exoskeleton to reduce the need of columns.
Urban Analysis
Sendai Mediatheque
Completed: Diablo Valley College | Spring 2020 The tubes of this building serve as a principle means of support and bracing. This idea introduced voids in our tower.
The scope of this project is to design a sustainable high-rise in Mission Bay, San Francisco that addresses the city’s social, ecological, and urban issues. We aimed to transform Mission Bay to be a more vibrant and dynamic place so that it becomes as much of a tourist place as downtown SF. The skyscraper, its form resembling that of a biological cell, reinvests Mission Bay into a sustainable waterfront that revitalizes human connection to nature. Light and water diffuse through the tower’s pores, allowing residents to experience nature.

Concepts taken from Microorganisms The voronoi tessellation pattern is used to model biological structures such as cells and detect sources of infections after an outbreak. The exoskeleton of the skyscraper reflects the voronoi tessellation.

04 THE BOLINAS PROJECT Residential House
ARCHI-244: Architectural Practice and Working Drawings Instructor: Joseph Lambert Completed: Diablo Valley College | Spring 2020
Given that the client is a Financial Analyst and professional Painter, I designed a two story structure based on a 20’ x 20’ x 20’ module. The client wanted a humble and cozy space to do quick works of art and accounting with supplies being within reach. I designed the space to comfortably hold four people within the interior. The client wanted the retreat to be a place for her to enjoy her leisure closely with family members.

ARCHI-220: Architectural Design II Instructor: Anthony Grand Partner: Fernando Soria Completed: Diablo Valley College | Fall 2019
I worked with my partner in designing a school located in Oakland. We took inspiration by The Vessel staircase structure located in New York so we used that as a unifying space between the architecture and visual arts department.

06 Artist’s Retreat Dedicated to Hokusai
ARCHI-136: Digital Tools for Architects Instructor: Grant Adams Completed: Diablo Valley College | Fall 2019
I designed a 500 square foot artist’s retreat dedicated to the Japanese arist Hokusai. The retreat is in a Japanese architectural style. Based in it’s location in the mountains, it respond to the site conditions (sun, wind, views, etc.) The interior and exterior spaces and reflects the nature of Hokusai as an artist.

07 Calder Museum Inspired by Alexander Calder
ARCHI-121: Architectural Design I Instructor: Qi Zhu Completed: Diablo Valley College | Spring 2019
This project is a museum designed in a way that mimics Alexander Calder’s deconstructivist art style. The space is used to display his artworks, one of which is a hanging mobile sculpture.

08 Brise Soleil A Shading Device
ARCHI-121: Architectural Design I Instructor: Qi Zhu Completed: Diablo Valley College | Spring 2019
This project was all hand-cut with a box knife and crafted with 4-ply museum board. It studied the effects of sunlight within the interior of a building. Called the Brise Soleil, it is a device, such as a screen or louver, for shutting out direct or excessive sunlight. The cube is 11”x11”x11” with a facade that extends by 4 inches. The design is developed through regulating lines.

09 Project Tetra Cal Poly Design Village Competition
ARCHI-110: Design Build Workshop Instructor: Daniel Abbott Team: Nik Chase, Sota Kanzan, Phoebe Lam, Daniel Navarrete & Paloma Maiorano Completed: Diablo Valley College | Spring 2019
My team and I designed & bulit this project to portray the theme of “Synthesis” through the combination of an architectural skin inspired by origami, along with it’s support to the robust wooden structure. We camped in this structure as part of Cal Poly’s Design Village Competition for three days and two nights at Poly Canyon. I had to: figure out the jointry involved in buliding the structural frame through laser cut iterations and models, prepare the full scale Rhino model for CNC routing, and assit in handcutting and assembling the architectural skin.
