Hilton Park Golf Club Case Study

Hilton Park is one of west-central Scotland’s pre-eminent private golf clubs, situated in beautiful countryside nine miles north-west of Glasgow on the edge of the famous Rob Roy country and on the road to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. The location of the course means that it is subject to the inevitable inclement weather of the area, which in turn has caused problems with the access pathways around the clubhouse, practice green, first tee and car park.

Hilton Park represents the first project to have been completed by the new strategic partnership that KBI UK Ltd has formed with Rigby Taylor, a company with vast expertise in the world of golf course infrastructure. Working with Susan Murray from Rigby Taylor and Hilton Park's Head Greenkeeper Neil Stuart, KBI UK Ltd installed 430m2 of their KBI Flexi™-Pave material on all of the access paths around the clubhouse, practice green and fist tee area, resulting in a huge improvement to the visual presentation of the affected areas and providing the perfect solution to standing water and drainage issues. As part of the groundworks undertaken to prepare for the new surface, new undersoil drainage was laid which will collect re-charged rainwater and help to create a new water hazard within the course.

Speaking about the project, Stuart Neil said: "The standing water had conspired to make the access paths extremely uneven in places. The temperatures we experience also mean that the standing water can freeze, creating a danger to those using the paths. We had tried to combat the problem in certain areas by using artificial grass, but when this gets wet and retains the water it can be just as hazardous. When we were presented with the KBI Flexi™-Pave material we were quickly convinced that it would provide the solution we were looking for.” Following consultation that began in November 2012, groundworks for the project were conducted in advance by the team at Hilton Park to specifications recommended by KBI UK. The installation team then spent three days onsite laying the KBI Flexi™-Pave material.

Graham Pell, KBI UK Ltd's Sales & Marketing Director, oversaw the project and was delighted with the outcome: "The finished pathways have revitalised the visual impact presented to the course members, but more importantly will serve a longer term purpose of delivering better drainage and removing the hazard of standing water on the access paths."
