Clay County residents will vote next week whether to adopt a new county constitution. If approved, the proposed constitution would restructure the organization of county government for a new home-rule system that the Clay County Constitution Commission has said mirrors the structure of most city governments within the county. The Clay County Board of Election Commissioners has said it anticipates a 20 percent turnout of registered county voters Tuesday, Nov. 5. The Chicks with Sticks knitting group has made a variety of pink hats and scarves to donate to breast cancer patients and survivors.

Knit one, purl two. Keep some, give more. That seems to be the patterned followed by Chicks with Sticks, a Northland knitting group that meets Fridays at The Salvation Army on North Oak Trafficway in Kansas City. “Every year we try to do something that we can give to people because we love to knit so much,” said member Deb Gilbert of Kansas City.
