Osawatomie State Hospital
First a thank you to all our staff who work hard to care for the people in treatment at our hospital. The 67 jobs transferred here are real stating they have chosen not to commute to Miami county from Johnson County is just negative politics. Yes, the hospital is over bed capacity by 24 patients. We do have adequate staff but it is stressful as is always the case when patient numbers spike. Why? There are over 50 Veterans that have been turned away by the Federal V.A. that are receiving care at our hospital. Jene always takes action for our hospital. Overtime in September is now the lowest since 2011. The LMHT entry level program with Ft. Scott Community college will give entry level new employees real career path opportunity and help keep our direct care staff numbers stable.

A heartfelt Thank-You to all who made my 90th birthday Saturday, Oct. 18, such a memorable occasion! Thanks most to my beloved children Ron Hohenstein and wife Barbara and Vicki Hohenstein Wards and her daughter Britten, who turned the Osawatomie Memorial Hall into a beautiful setting. The cake was lovely and the food delicious. A special Thank-You for all the beloved family and friends who blessed us with their presence and those who couldn’t be here but sent cards or flowers or called. I feel I’ve had a fantastic life and couldn’t be more fortunate throughout these many years – family, school, work – all of it!
