1. COVER

COVER Vogue UK October 2013 will be a special edition, the cover will be a bit edgier than usual - the model is Anja Rubik, who has not been on the cover of British Vogue, wearing silver Balmain dress from autumn/winter 2013-2014 collection, smoking cigarette . We want to move from the “gossipy style of the magazine to more sophisticated and high fashion. The photo will be black-and-white, Vogue sign in metallic/silver, with one highlighted cover line in magenta. All cover lines will explain what is covered in the magazine.

LE SMOKING. THE DEATH OF NICOTINE CHIC?

LE SMOKING. THE DEATH OF NICOTINE CHIC? Cigarettes have been a big part of society for over a century. Once considered as healthy, acceptable and fashionable, science caught up in the late 60s and they discovered it caused lung cancer and a host of health problems. This ensued banning cigarettes from children‘s movies, adverts, public places and thus it was frowned upon when featured in magazine editorials. One thing it has always remained though was chic - until now. A smoking man is considered strong, manly and successful. Women feel strong, independent and chic, resulting in the creation of Vogue slim cigarettes (nothing to do with the magazine, but just the symbol as one) and pink packed fags, appealing to the discerning, modern, insouciant woman. But what is it about cigarettes, that makes the other sex seem so attractive? Every “nicotine chic“ shoot focusses on the lips, making them seem pouty and sensual - alluring and inviting. Through the ban of cigarettes in many public places, smokers have became more antisocial since having to leave the establishment for every lit up fag. Does this mean the end of nicotine chic? Have cigarettes become bourgeois?

Location: Loseley House in Surrey. The present house was built between 1562 and 1568 with stone brought from the ruins of Waverley Abbey. The new house replaced a smaller one which Elizabeth I declared was not 'adequate' for her to visit and requested something larger be built. The great hall is the principal room containing panelling from Henry VIII's Nonsuch Palace, a minstrel's gallery, carvings by Grinling Gibbons, panels from Henry VIII's banqueting tents and a collection of royal and family portraits. The drawing room has a gilded ceiling decorated for James I's visit and a chalk fireplace. The carvings above the library fireplace (dated 1570) commemorate one of Elizabeth I's visits. Sir More's room contain an 18th century Vauxhall mirror. Two bedrooms named the King's Room and the Queen's Room were used by James I and Elizabeth I respectively. VOGUE BEAUTY

BEAUTY FOR WINTER Nail trends for winter: Metallic, matte, coloured pearls and gems. Play around with nail colors, but instead of highlighting your ring finger, the index finger is put on the spot now. On the runway was a strong trend of tinting your fingers aswell. Just a question of how handy it is? For a day to night look apply the reverse French manicure (refer to picture). Winter care is the A-O for beautiful hands and nails! Keep your cuticles moist by applying oil (Ill cuccio naturale €10,-) and your hands nurtured with Kiehl's hand cream. Through the cold weather and the dry air of heating, chipping nails and itchy hands are the price to pay for not taking care. For the lazy ones among us, try the hand treatment by Dior (€35,-) and apply a thick coat over your hands and nails and leave over night with cotton gloves.

BEAUTY FOR WINTER Skin winter SPF is just as important during the winter time as in the boiling hot summer. Through the reflections of snow, water and other conditions, sun screen is a must! Even though we feel it is not warm enough to put on some good SPF, our brains are tricking us as the sunbeams go just as hard on our skin. After applying the SPF make sure you choose a lighter make up powder or cream than in the summer, as your skin will look more pale. Eyes: Keep it simple and metallic. Just as for the nails, metallics are in trend for make up this season. Shock with excessive mascara (Chanel €35, Yves Saint Laurent €29). Apply 3 coats with 10 seconds drying time in-between each. For a night time look opt for a squared smokey eye - geometrical shapes are the way to go. Lips: Matte, matte, matte. Enough said.
