When the Lord first spoke to us about starting the Believer’s Voice of Victory magazine, He said: This is your seed. Give it to everyone who ever responds to your ministry, and don’t ever allow anyone to pay for a subscription to it. For 34 years it has been our joy to bring you good news through the teachings of ministers who write out of living contact with God, and the testimonies of believers who took God at His Word and experienced His victory in everyday life.

Forgetting those things that are behind

certainly wish I were better at forgetting things! | That’s one statement most of us have never made. It’s our ability to remember, not our ability to forget, that we usually want to develop. Yet, according to the Bible, forgetting can change our lives. It can change our environment. It can help take us from failure to success, from sickness to health, and from poverty to abundance. | In fact, as born-again children of God, we can’t fully enjoy the victory that belongs to us in Jesus until we learn how to supernaturally forget.

I

If you don’t believe it, look at the life of the Apostle Paul. He was one of the most powerful believers this earth has ever seen. He faced more challenges, persecutions and hardships than most of us can even imagine. Yet he boldly declared, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ.... I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Romans 8:37; 2 Corinthians 2:14; Philippians 4:13, New King James Version).

Get a Grip | Sometimes

we’re tempted to think Paul was able to live in such triumph because he was some kind of super saint. We don’t even aspire to walk in his footsteps because we figure we’re just ordinary believers and he was something special. But Paul told us clearly that wasn’t the case. He said, “[I] am less than the least of all saints…” (Ephesians 3:8). What, then, was the key to Paul’s amazing spiritual success? How did he live such a victorious life?

Je su s nev er re mi nd s y ou o f y our si n. He wiped it out. He has forgotten it and He wants you to do the same.

He answered those questions in his letter to the Philippians when he wrote these powerful words: “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14). To get the full impact of those verses, remove the italicized words (which weren’t in the original manuscripts but were added later by the translators) and read them again: “I count not myself to have apprehended but one thing— forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press….” Can you see what Paul was saying there? He was telling us that there was one thing in life he knew he had a good grip on, one thing he’d apprehended and developed the ability to do. He’d learned to supernaturally forget his past and press forward into his God-ordained future. He’d discovered the secret of leaving old things behind and moving ahead. For Paul, that was a particularly remarkable accomplishment because his past was packed with atrocities that, naturally speaking, would be impossible to forget. He had spent the years just before he was saved persecuting Christians. He’d caught them in church and ordered them thrown into dungeons where many eventually died. He had actually supervised the murder of Stephen, holding the coats of those who hurled stones at him. Paul had watched approvingly as the heavy, jagged rocks crushed the body of one of the most beloved leaders of the early Church. He had personally heard Stephen cry out with his last breath, “Lord, lay not this sin to their charge!” Can you imagine how those memories must have tried to haunt Paul after he was saved? Can you imagine how feverishly the devil must have worked to remind him of what he had done—to make him feel unworthy to be a minister of the gospel? Yet somehow Paul defeated those memories. Somehow he found a way to supernaturally forget his past. Clearly, if he could do it, you and I can too. We just need to know how. To find out, all we have to do is return once again to his writings. In 2 Corinthians 10, he explained the process: “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that

exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; and having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience…” (verses 3-6). Don’t Let Your Past Dictate Your Future

According to those verses, we can’t live in victory by just waiting for supernatural forgetfulness to overtake us. We can’t just sit around hoping that someday God will reach down and wash away our memory of the past. We must get aggressive about it. That’s what Paul did. He declared war on every thought that tried to drag him back to his old life. He took revenge on every memory, mental image, concept or imagination that contradicted what the Word of God said about him as a reborn, right- eous, new creation in Christ. If we want to enjoy the kind of victory Paul did, we have to do the same thing. Otherwise, our mind will keep dragging us back into old cycles of sin and defeat because, unlike our spirit, our mind was not made new when we were born again. It stayed the same. If we don’t renew it with the Word, it will continually feed us with thoughts and fears from the past. And since our lives are shaped by what we think (which becomes what we say…which dictates what we decide and what we do), those thoughts and fears from the past will end up dictating our future. If we don’t use the power of the Word to supernaturally forget those things which are behind—despite all the promises God has made to us as believers, despite the fact that our lives are truly hidden with Christ in God—we’ll be doomed to repeat the mistakes and failures of the past again…and again…and again. When I say you must supernaturally forget the past, I’m not talking about just keeping it off your mind for a couple of days. I mean you must forget it the way God forgets something. Put it as far from you as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). Root it out of your memory by the blood of the Lamb and cleanse your consciousness of it permanently by faith. You must begin to believe that what the Bible says about your past is true. Every negative part of it is gone! Everything the devil did to you and through you has been wiped out forever! “Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ…” (2 Corinthians 5:17-18).

It’s All in Your Mind

When I think about how completely God demolishes the devil’s work in our past, I’m often reminded of a little house in Steamboat Springs, Colo., that Gloria and I bought back in 1986. It wasn’t anything fancy but we really enjoyed it. Just thinking about it right now, I can see every detail of it in my mind’s eye. I can take you through the front door into the little mudroom in the front where we hung our winter jackets and parked our boots and gloves. I can walk you through the living room where the fireplace crackled and glowed on snowy, winter days. I can take you back to the kitchen and the little dining room where our kids and grandkids used to gather. I can describe every piece of wallpaper, every rug and every picture hanging on the walls. I can see myself right now walking up the stairs with suitcases in my hands. I can see myself going back downstairs to the lockers where we kept our skis, and getting ready to hit the slopes. Just thinking about it is like being in that cabin right now. It’s absolutely real to me. But you know what? We sold that cabin in 1999, and the guy who bought it took a bulldozer and knocked the whole thing down. There’s nothing left of it. That house does not exist anywhere on this earth. The only place it exists is in my mind. Praise God, the same thing happened to our sinful, defeat-ridden, old past! The blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth has demolished it even more completely than that bulldozer demolished our Colorado cabin! In the mind of God, it is gone. Every old, ungodly thing in your life (including the bad things other people did to you, the sorrows and pains the devil inflicted on you) has passed away. Those things don’t exist anywhere on this planet…except in your mind. The only power or reality they have is what you give them. Three Keys to Forgetting the Past

“I understand that, Brother Copeland,” you might say, “but exactly how do I get rid of the memories that plague me? How do I stop thinking about them?” Over the years, I’ve discovered three vital keys that help me supernaturally turn off thoughts of the past. If you’ll keep these keys in mind and act on them, you’ll be able to take every thought captive and cast down every ungodly memory that rises up against you. First and foremost, always remember that your sin is none of the devil’s business. If he tries to remind you of things you’ve done wrong, take authority over him and command him to leave you alone. At times the devil will try to trick you into believing that God is the One

reminding you of those sins but don’t you believe it! Jesus never reminds you of your sin. He wiped it out. He has forgotten it and He wants you to do the same. So when the devil tries to convince you to mentally rehearse your past, refuse and resist him and he will flee from you. Don’t even let the devil talk to you about current sins. It’s not his place to deal with you about them. Your sin is between you and Jesus. He’s the One who bought you. He’s the One who paid the price for your forgiveness. So when you miss it—in little ways or big—Jesus is the One you need to talk to about it. Run to Him (not from Him) and repent. Confess your sin and refuse to allow the devil or anyone else to put you under condemnation for it. Second, always remember that when we confess our sins to Jesus, “he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Sometimes believers doubt that forgiveness. If they still feel guilty after they confess their sin to the Lord, they think God hasn’t done His part. They believe He is still holding their sin against them. Don’t ever make that mistake. Always remember that Jesus keeps His Word. Every time we confess our sin, He is 100 percent faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us. So if our feelings say otherwise, then our feelings must be lying because Jesus will never lie. He will always do what He says He will do. Never base your faith on your feelings. Base it on God’s Word. The moment you confess your sin, believe Jesus has forgiven and cleansed you regardless of how you feel. Then speak by faith, call things that be not as though they were and say, “I receive my forgiveness. I receive my cleansing. That sin is washed completely away by the blood of Jesus. I am free of it now, in Jesus’ Name!” Turn the Tables on the Devil

Once you’ve received your forgiveness by faith, begin to purge the memory of that sin by speaking the Word. When the devil starts tempting you to think about it again, open your mouth and give him the same answer Jesus gave when the devil tempted Him. Say, “It is written….” Shut the devil up by telling him what God says about the situation. Go after him with a vengeance. Get revenge on that disobedient thought by assaulting it with the Word. Don’t just do it silently either. Don’t just try to counter disobedient thoughts with scriptural thoughts. That won’t work. If you want to win the battle in your mind you have to use a mightier weapon. You have to fight thoughts with words. Words always overcome thoughts because the moment you open your mouth, your mind must stop

PlaceforYou God has a place for you. It’s a foreordained place of blessing and increase. It’s a place, both geographically and spiritually, where you will flourish like never before. It’s a place of great associations and anointing, where you will have great freedom. It’s a place where you’ll “fit.” | God called Abraham, the father of our faith, to his place in Genesis 12. It started when “the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee” (verse 1). And that’s exactly what Abraham did. To understand exactly what God required of Abraham, let’s look at this verse in detail. | First, God said, “Get thee out.” He told Abraham to leave where he was and go. Did Abraham wait for God to get him out? No. He had to get out himself.

Everyone has a call on his life. by Keith Moore

God wouldn’t lead you into something worse. He’s got something bigger and better. He’s got a

wealthy place for you. God told him to get out “of thy country.” That was where Abraham had grown up. It was home. God told him to get out “from thy kindred.” That was all the people Abraham knew. It was all the relationships that he had developed. God also told him to get out “f rom thy father’s house.” That includes all of Abraham’s history, family tree and heritage…everything his family had absorbed and developed year after year. God said, I want you to walk away from it. I want you to leave it. And I want you to go “unto a land that I will show thee.” In other words, God wanted him to get away from all his associations and go to another place. Now, when God’s talking about a place, He’s not just talking about a geographical place, because every place naturally is also a place spiritually. And just as He had a place for Abraham, God has a place, both geographical and spiritual, for you, too.

Blessed by Going W hy did the L ord tell Abraham to go? The answer is in verse 2: “If you do…I will bless you…” ( The Living Bible). Hallelujah! He had to go to receive The Blessing. Now, would Abraham still have been blessed had he stayed where he was? No. If God told him to go to another place, he would not have been blessed by staying. If you think about it, all the great men and women of God you know are blessed because they went when God called them. I remember years ago when God dealt with my wife, Phyllis, and me to go to Rhema Bible Training Center. It seemed impossible. We were just little country folks with no money. But the Lord told us to go to Rhema, to leave Mom and Dad, the people we knew and loved, our lifestyle, and the land that had been in our family for generations. We couldn’t get away from it. We had to leave. We had to go, not knowing what awaited us in the big city.

Everyone Is Called “Well, Brother Keith, I just don’t feel like I’ve got a call on my life.” Certainly you do! Ever yone has a call on his life. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re supposed to pastor a church. Only a small percentage of the Body of Christ are speaking gifts, but everyone in the Body has gifts and graces. And everyone in the Body has a place: a place where they develop; a place where they are f ruitful; a place where The Blessing empowers them and enables them until they increase and their influence goes beyond themselves. The question is: Are you listening for and responding to your call? You may not know the whole picture yet, but look at what God said to Abraham. He didn’t say, “I’m calling you to preach.” No, God called Abraham to leave. Sometimes folks make it too hard. They say, “Well, why am I leaving? I need some security. I can’t just go. I need a place to live. I need a job. I need money.” No, what you need is a word from the Lord. That’s it. Now, if you just run off and do something on your own, sure, you could fall on your face. That’s why you must hear from the Lord. But once you’ve heard from the Lord, all the other questions are insignificant. Because if God said Go, He’s already got it all figured out. He knows exactly where you’re going to live and where all your money is going to come f rom. You don’t have to know it all in order to walk by faith. The problem is, your flesh wants answers. Your flesh wants God to sit down and go through your organizer with you, so you can know what you’re going to do. But when God gives you a revelation of the future, it’s called a “word of wisdom.” A word. Not a sentence, not a paragraph, not a page. You get a glimpse. You get just enough for the next step. F acing Opposition That doesn’t mean it will be easy. The devil wants to keep you in a dead place, a place of oppression and

God calls you,

heaviness, where you groan under your debt and sickness and you have no aspirations or vision. He wants to keep you in a place where you’re not inspired or fed spiritually. When the Lord dealt with Phyllis and me about leaving and going to Rhema, it was like He was telling us to go to another planet. We had never been away from home. But when we finally made the commitment to leave, our pastor—a good and godly man whom I was related to—came to see me. “Keith, you and Phyllis are going to leave?” he asked. I said, “Yeah. We believe the Lord’s leading us to go.” He said, “I just don’t know about that.” He told me that not many young people were serving the Lord where we lived and that the church needed us. Besides, he said, couldn’t the Lord teach us at home just as easily as He could at Rhema? After all, the Holy Spirit is everywhere. He was very convincing. But that night as I prayed, I couldn’t get away from it. There was something telling me I needed to leave, even if I didn’t understand it. Oh, I am so glad I did! Was it easy? No. We left for Tulsa, but couldn’t find a place to live. What little money we had for registration, we found ourselves spending on hotel rooms. And we got lost every other day because we weren’t used to city traffic. But that didn’t mean God hadn’t called us there. Before long, things came together and our spirits were fed like never before. God had us in a different place geographically, but more importantly, He had us in a different place spiritually. We were away from the influences that were holding us back and we were connected with the influences that were lifting us up. The best part was that it was God’s ordained place for us to enjoy The Blessing. God truly brought us “into a wealthy place” (Psalm 66:12).

The Blessing

A Bigger Vision

comes on you

When you go to the place where God calls you, The Blessing comes on you and you flourish. When Phyllis and I left for school, we thought we were only going to be there one year. Twenty years later we were still there, helping, growing and developing. Now before we left, we had a little mobile home with genuine imitation leather sofas and red shag carpet. I had a pretty wife, a junky hot rod, a well-worn motorcycle, and a dog that caught Frisbees. I thought that was it, man. My life’s vision was coming to pass. But let me tell you, I am so glad God had a bigger vision for me! He had a better place for me, a wealthy place. And He has one for you, too. Right now millions of believers are sitting in dumpy little places with worn-out stuff. They love the Lord, but keep asking the question, “Lord, why won’t You help me?” That’s not the right question. Instead, they should be asking themselves, “Why won’t I obey? Why won’t I do what He says?” Many don’t heed the call because they don’t know what will happen. Phyllis and I didn’t know either. We looked like the Beverly Hillbillies in our little truck with our stuff piled high. We were dumb as posts and broke as could be. But we did what we knew we had to do. We walked away from the life we knew. And it was worth it! Today, God has blessed and increased us. Yes, we’ve received material blessings, but those are the lesser part of it. The greater part is the anointing. It’s seeing people get saved and healed. It happened because we answered the call.

If God said Go, He’s already got it all figured out.

When you go to the place where

and you flourish.

Say Goodbye If God has said to you, There’s a place I want you to be, then nothing else in the world is going to satisfy you except getting up and going out. You’ve got to say goodbye to all

the folks you love, all your favorite places to eat, and all your favorite hobbies. God wouldn’t lead you into something worse. He’s got something bigger and better. He’s got a wealthy place for you. It’s a place of specific associations, a specific environment. You won’t grow and flourish anywhere else like you will there. You won’t be blessed or prosper anywhere else like you will with the people in that church, in that place, in that job, in that ministry. It’s the place for you right now. The question is: Are you going to get up and obey God? Or are you going to play it safe? It’s time to say, “God, I’ll leave everything. I’ll walk away f rom my business. I’ll walk away f rom family

ties. I’ll obey You. I will follow You to the ends of the earth. Here am I, Lord, send me.” If you know God has spoken to you, leave behind the known and the safe and do what you were created to do. Do what you were made to do. Go. You don’t have to know how. You don’t have to figure it all out. All you’ve got to do is say, “Yes.” Because God is calling. V ictor y

From Milk to Meat

From Faith to Faith Changed His Life Last Christmas I received a free From Faith to Faith devotional due to a mix-up in orders. The staff at KCM told me, “Just bless someone with it.” I followed instructions and gave it to my brother for Christmas. Prior to reading it, he was an alcoholic, lived in a homeless shelter, had attempted suicide and ended up in a psych unit. He was in awe of your book which led him to read the Word and get involved in church. Then he decided to move in with my father. From being a homeless alcoholic on antidepressants for manic depression, he now has a good-paying job and lives life to the fullest, taking my dad to church on Sundays and reading the Word! D.M. |

Thank you very much for sowing the Word of God into our lives. Through your teachings, we have come from drinking milk to eating meat. During 2000, my mother-in-law was listening to your teachings regarding finances and kept repeating to me what she heard. Eventually, I told myself I had nothing to lose and started to sow offerings into your ministry. At the time I was working as an account executive for a large telecommunications company. I had daily and monthly sales targets to meet, and it was hard. But I took your teaching and started confessing it at work and home. When my income began to increase, my husband was convinced and started sowing too. By the end of 2003, I was one of the top five sales performers and reaped a bonus that was beyond my wildest dreams. In fact, I called the payroll office to confirm my paycheck. Imagine me with no sales experience being mentored by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit and coming out tops within three years in the company. I know it wasn’t me—I give God all the glory. Thank you for your obedience and faithfulness in teaching the truth of His Word. Please stay strong—my prayers are for you, your ministry and family to be richly blessed. Maria Singh |

Disks Renewed by Jesus

Fourteen years ago, I had a ruptured disk in my back and four years later another disk bulged. Too young to have them fused together, I was given a cortisone shot and lived with it. Six years ago I was born again and started seeking the Lord for healing. Two years ago I started listening to Brother Copeland. I incorporated everything he said into my life. In November 2004, I crossed the faith line. I did every faith thing I knew to do, but my back kept feeling worse. By summer 2005, I was very frustrated in my progress and the Lord spoke to me, If you truly believed you were healed you wouldn’t be getting frustrated. That hit home—I didn’t really believe. So I started working on my “believer.” I confessed that I believed. I believed the stripes. I believed the love. I started meditating Jesus on the cross. He impressed me to take Communion every day, remembering and giving thanks for what He did for me. In January 2006, as I was meditating I saw Jesus on the cross. He reached His hands down and cupped them and He stopped. I took my bad disks and put them in His hands. Then I saw Him in hell where the light of His Spirit overcame every sickness, disease, pain, sin and sorrow. He won victory over everything. Then Jesus walked to me with my new disks in His hands. I took them and put them in my body and spirit. I am healed, and have no pain. When Jesus cupped His hands in front of me, He stopped. I believe I had to be willing to give them to Him. It may sound silly, but I had them for so long they were part of me and my thinking. Thank you, KCM, for all your prayers. B.L. |

I was a drug addict in the past. My life had

no sense and I was on my last stage…far gone. When I went to prison for the second time, my mother died and my brother (a drug addict, as well) disappeared. My son was 13 years old; the grandmother of my former husband took care of him. Some people from the Pentecostal church came to our prison and I visited their services. After my discharge, I met a man and started living with him. I gave birth to a baby girl. Our life was horrible. He drank a lot and we starved because none of us worked. I started going to the nearest city to visit the Pentecostal church. I asked God to lead me out of that nightmare. Me and my children left that man. We didn’t know where to go and we relied on God.

People from the church took us in and gave

us a place to live. I met your Partners, started watching your Believer’s Voice of Victory broadcasts and became a part of the ministry. My life changed. I sent my youngest child to kindergarten and started working as a cleaner. My older son also worked. Drea m Standing in Your

If God has given you a dream—a dream of doing something so g reat and so wonderful it seems almost impossible—this article is for you.

|

My reason for writing it is to encourage you to

hang on to that dream, to remind you that no matter how small you feel right now and no matter how big your dream may seem to be, God is powerful enough to bring it to pass.

The Scriptures reveal that truth again and again. They show us Abraham, who dared to dream that God would give him a son even though at 100 years old he was childless and his wife was old and barren. No doubt the people around him laughed when at God’s command he began to call himself the Father of Many Nations. But Abraham kept on believing and eventually he found himself standing in his dream. The Bible is full of people with impossible dreams. God intended for us to read about them and be inspired. But all too often we look at them as if they were somehow different from ordinary people like us. We forget that they had faults and failures, weaknesses and inadequacies just like we do ( James 5:17). As a result, we sometimes shy away from the great dreams God tries to give us. We stagger at the thought that God might be able to work through us in the same powerful ways He worked through those faith heroes of old.

That’s why I want to show you today, not just from the Bible, but from my own personal experience that if you’ll just believe Him, God can do impossible things through you. I know that’s true because today Ken and I are standing in our dream. We are seeing things come to pass that God put in our hearts many years ago. If you’ve only known us over the past few years, you may not realize what an amazing work God has done in our lives. You may think God has given us a worldwide ministry—opportunities to spread the gospel, not only in person, but also in print, on television and on radio—and allowed us to participate in bringing millions of souls into the kingdom of God each year...all because we’re something special. But I want to assure you that Ken and I aren’t anything special. We aren’t super-successful people God was grateful to find for His service. On the contrary, before He got hold of our lives, we were an absolute mess.

by Gloria Copeland

I want to show you today, not just from the Bible, but from my own personal experience that if you’ll just believe Him, God can do impossible things through you. Big Debts and Bad Decisions

You see, Kenneth and I haven’t always been preachers. In fact, I’d always said I’d never marry a preacher and the first time I ever saw Kenneth Copeland, he was far from a preacher. He flew planes and sang in nightclubs, and the first weekend we went out, he asked me to marry him. What surprised me was when I heard myself say, “Yes.” I couldn’t believe I had done it. Of course, I was only 19 years old and I didn’t have much sense. I thought, What have I done? I hardly know this guy. (He was quite a charmer. I’d never had anybody look into my eyes and sing “Misty” to me before.) Then I assured myself, I can get out of it later! Unfortunately, in those first few years, the kinds of adventures we had weren’t exactly what I had hoped for. For one thing, we started out deeply in debt. I married Kenneth Copeland and his notes. Debt had always been a way of life for him. Sometimes I think he borrowed money on his tricycle! What’s more, we immediately began to make dumb decisions. (I know you probably think you’re the only one who’s done stupid things financially, but trust me, we all have.) Right after we married, Ken went to work with a great new company that was just getting started. We were so sure it was going to make us rich quickly that I quit my job and went to work there too. I was the secretary...but only for two weeks. Then the company went broke. I’ll never forget those desperate days. While Ken was out hunting for a job, I sat alone in the three-bedroom house we had rented and wondered what would become of us. My world had crumbled. I had nowhere to go. No money. No job. We didn’t even have any “real” furniture. Just a rented rollaway bed that sagged in the middle, a wrought-iron coffee table Ken had made in his high-school shop class (you can imagine what a stunning piece that was!), a black-and-white TV, and a couple of lawn chairs. Nothing else. No refrigerator. No stove. I cooked in my coffeepot and an electric skillet. And since it was winter, I put the food outside in a cardboard box to keep it cold.

No matter how small you feel right now and no matter how big your dream may seem to be, God is powerful enough to bring it to pass.

If God Cares About the Birds...

Worst of all, I had no hope. I didn’t know to trust in God. I’d been raised in a denomination that taught He didn’t do anything anymore. Healing, miracles and all that had passed away...or so I’d been told. I didn’t think anyone could even be sure of getting to heaven. You just had to take your chances and, odds are, you wouldn’t make it. One day, I picked up the Bible Ken’s mother had given him for his birthday. In the front she had written, “Ken precious, seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33).” I didn’t know much, but I did know I needed a lot of things added to me so I opened to that passage. I read about how God feeds the birds and clothes the grass of the field, and I thought, If He cares about them, He cares about me! I had never before known that. No one had ever told me God would help me. Spiritually, it was the first good news I’d ever heard. That day, I prayed and told Jesus that if He could do anything with my life, He could certainly have it. With that simple prayer, I was born again. I didn’t realize it, of course. I’d never heard anything about the new birth. I just knew that after that, my heart began to change. I started wanting to know more about God. I even wanted to go to church. Within two weeks, Ken had a new job. We moved into a new apartment. We bought a better car. And in the midst of it all, another amazing thing happened. God spoke to Ken and said, You have to get this family in line with Me now! Even though Ken’s mother and dad had always been strong Christians, Ken had been running A p r i l

from God most of his life. But the Lord dealt with him so strongly this time, he couldn’t ignore it. So he followed the instructions he’d heard years before from his boyhood Sunday school teacher, Mrs. Taggert. He bowed his head and asked Jesus to come into his heart. The day we moved into our new apartment, Ken called me into the living room and said, “What would you think if I started preaching or making talks about the Lord?” I remember thinking, You, preach? I can’t even get you to go to church! Soon after that we went to a meeting with Ken’s parents where we learned about receiving the infilling of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. I’d never heard of anything like that before and I wasn’t sure if it was of God or not. So I went out to smoke a cigarette and think about it. While I was out there I said, “Lord, if this is of You, I want it.” I must have looked funny to heaven, sitting there smoking a cigarette and worrying about receiving something that wasn’t of God! A Big Dream in a Little House

You may be expecting me to say that after we were baptized in the Holy Spirit, Ken and I heard the call of God and started turning the world upside down for Jesus...but we didn’t. We grew a little spiritually. But for the most part we just rocked along, barely keeping our heads above water. During the next five years we moved to Fort Worth and Ken went to work for his father selling insurance. The problem was he didn’t like it. And in spite of the fact that he was a natural-born talker, he wasn’t a very good insurance salesman. (His dad used to jokingly say, “Ken, according to the Bible, Samson killed a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of an ass. I believe you’ve killed 10 times that many sales with the same weapon!”) We were still facing overwhelming debts. Creditors were threatening to sue us. Financially, we’d had one failure after another and we couldn’t even make ends meet. On top of it all, Ken began to sense the Lord leading him to go to Tulsa, Okla., and enroll as a student at Oral Roberts University. To Ken, the idea of becoming a college freshman at 30 years old seemed absurd. “I don’t even have a job in Tulsa,” he said. “We’d starve.” “We’re already doing that,” I answered. “We might

as well go to Tulsa and starve in the will of God as stay here and starve outside His will!” Ken agreed, so we packed up what we had, put our two little children in the car and moved. Naturally speaking, things were worse there than they’d ever been. We lived in a shabby little house with brown walls! I wouldn’t unpack for weeks. But God was helping us. The first day Kenneth arrived on the ORU campus, he got a job as Oral Roberts’ co-pilot. His salary was $100 a month. As tight as things were financially, we were happier than we’d ever been. We were in the will of God at last! For the first few months, Ken worked at his studies and flew with Brother Roberts to his meetings. Once there, Ken’s job was to drive him to the meetings and do anything that was needed. Ken loved it. And what an opportunity it was. He got to watch and learn firsthand from Brother Roberts, and that was a blessing. Hungry to know exactly what God was calling us to do, Ken decided one day in May 1967, to go down to the river near our house. It was there that God began to speak to Ken about a worldwide ministry. You will preach, sing, pray and minister to the people—My people, by My power. Whole nations will come to Me.... And He gave Ken the dream of ministering to millions for Jesus. Of course that all sounds very grand and he was excited, but you must realize that once he received that great word from God, he had to march right back to that dumpy little house where we lived. He had to reconcile that big dream of preaching all over the world with the fact that it was a challenge to even have enough money to go to Fort Worth to visit his parents! Our First Steps of Faith

But, praise God, we were learning what to do. We’d been going to Kenneth Hagin’s meetings and learning about the integrity of God’s Word. We’d discovered that we could trust the written Word just like we’d trust the word of a doctor or a trusted friend. The fundamentals of living by faith were filling our hearts and mouths. We knew the only way we could get out of the mess we were in—and into the plan of God—was by faith in God’s Word. So we gave it our total attention. For about a year, we hardly did anything except listen to teaching tapes and study. After a while, Ken was out preaching. I

was at home with the children, but we were both in the Word day and night. That year, every time Brother Hagin held a seminar (and he held a number of 10-day seminars that year) we were there. Some winter nights we had to slide over there on the ice—but we did it because we were hungry for the Word. Then we started taking the first faith steps toward our dream. When I say that, I don’t mean we went out and bought radio airtime. No, we had to start right where we were. We had to have a car, a place to live—in other words, we had to start believing for the necessities of life. We had to start by believing God for food on our table. Some days I had to exercise great faith and pray in tongues just to make sure I had enough money to pay the cashier at the grocery store! That may sound like an insignificant thing. But years later, Ken and I found we could use that same kind of grocery-store faith to believe for millions of dollars needed for television broadcasts. Actually, when I look back now I can see that during those times God was laying the foundations in our lives. He was teaching us the lessons from His Word that would equip us for what we’re doing now. It was in those days, for instance, we learned about tithing. In earlier days, we’d tithe and then stop because we figured we needed the money more than God did. But as we studied the Word, we made a quality decision that we were going to tithe no matter what. We decided that even if we had to go hungry—we would give God His part of our increase first. Financially, that was a turning point in our lives. That was when things began to consistently improve for us, and we’re still benefiting f rom that lesson today. In return, God has been faithful to do what He promised. We continually live under an open window. It was also in those early days that we found the scripture in Romans 13:8 that says, “Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another...” (The Amplified Bible). I’ll admit to you that initially we weren’t thrilled with the idea of living without debt. We had lived on borrowed money for years. How can we ever have a car? we thought. How can we ever have a home? How can we ever build this big ministry God has put in our hearts? We didn’t know the answers to those questions, but we already had made a commitment to obey God’s Word no matter what, so we immediately stopped charging anything or borrowing any money. We weren’t doing it to be blessed financially. We didn’t have much revelation of prosperity at the time. But we did know that God had promised to take care of us, so we just put our trust in Him.

Eleven months later, we were completely out of debt. I still don’t know exactly how it happened. We weren’t making much money and we owed thousands of dollars. But somehow during those months we paid it all off. Little did we know that God was laying a foundation, training us in the principles that would eventually enable us to head a worldwide outreach and fulfill all we are called to do, without depending on the world’s system of finance. The Longest Night in History

God taught us vital lessons about ordering our home life according to His Word in those first years too. We learned the importance of agreement, for example (Matthew 18:19). We saw in the Bible that “where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work” ( James 3:16). So we made a decision that we would walk in love and keep strife out of our home at all costs. I have no doubt that if we hadn’t learned that early in our lives, the devil would have used strife to stop the power of God in our ministry at some point. Of course, I could go on and on about all God has done for us and taught us over the years. I could tell you how we had to hold on to the dream of worldwide ministry when people were staying away from our serv- ices by the millions. In the beginning Ken preached meetings where just a handful of people attended. Back then a crowd of 300 seemed like a multitude. (It took a long time to get 300 people.) But no matter how few people were there, Ken preached like there were thousands...because that’s what God had promised him. That’s the dream he had in his heart. Someone once said to Ken, “Your ministry just took off overnight.” “If it did, it was the longest night in history!” he answered. Remember that next time the devil tries to discourage you by pointing out how slow things seem to be progressing in your life. When he taunts you about your failures and shortcomings, when he magnifies the obstacles in your path and says, “You’ll never make it. You don’t have what it takes to do anything that big.” Don’t let him steal your dream. Just answer him and say, “Yes, I do. I have Jesus. I have the Word of God. I have the power of the Holy Spirit. And that’s all I need.” Ken and I can tell you from personal experience, that’s the truth. We were total failures before God got hold of us. Now, look what He has done. We are standing in our dream, and if you’ll continue trusting and obeying Him, one day you’ll be standing in yours too. V ictor y

Really Good Finding Something

“Something good is going to happen to you!”

|

Sitting at a table near the speaker’s platform at a

resort hotel in San Diego, Calif., those words suddenly had special meaning for Chaplain Al Downing as he waited to hear the guest minister. Though Oral Roberts, the televangelist known for popularizing the catchy phrase, was nowhere around, his staccato voice resonated in the chaplain’s head—and for good reason.

|

He had been nearly devastated by a broken marriage and a disap-

pointing experience that led him to resign his cherished career as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. |

Downing needed something good to happen to him that day in May 1989. He had come to the meeting by invitation, knowing little about the speaker—an evangelist named Kenneth Copeland. On the inside, he hoped God would use this man to deliver that “something good” he so badly needed. |

Born into a Christian family in the small North Carolina town of

Plymouth, church was nothing new to him. His mother was a minister, and taught her children to love the Lord.

Brother Copeland also told them:

“I’m giving you an assignment. You had to learn the orders of the day. Now learn God’s order of the day—Psalm 91!” “But I didn’t know much about the word of faith,” he recalls about his upbringing. “I only knew what I was taught, and traditional interpretations of what I read in the Bible.” So, though he had become a Christian and preached his first sermon as a senior in high school, Chaplain Downing had never learned how to take authority over his life when the hard times hit. But that was about to change. Moments into the meeting, Brother Copeland looked down from the platform at the military officer. Recognizing his uniform, Brother Copeland pointed at Downing and said: “He’s serving with the Marines, but he’s a Navy chaplain.” “I was impressed because he knew his military stuff,” Downing recalled. “He was right. Although I was a Navy chaplain, I was serving with the Marines because the Navy provides chaplains for the Marines as well as the Coast Guard.” Then, Brother Copeland said something that would forever change his life: “Just as the Lord has blessed your ministry in the military, He’s going to bless it out of the military…the Lord has not given you the spirit of fear, but of love and of power and of a sound mind.” Nothing like that prophetic word had ever been spoken to the chaplain. How does he know I’m getting out of the military? he wondered. I am getting out in June, but how would he know that? And what does he mean by saying the Lord is going to bless my ministry ‘out of the military’? One thing he knew for sure, this man had hit the nail square on the head. The chaplain had enjoyed a number of successes during his two tours of duty—first in the Army and now the Navy. “I was always a people person, so I was always out there with the soldiers and Marines,” Downing said. “I preached at the chapel, and the people loved the ministry and the things I was doing.” Brother Copeland was also right about him leaving the military. “I had already resigned from the Navy when I went to that meeting,” Downing said. “I had turned in my papers.” God would have to reveal what all this meant. A Calling Revealed

|

“Each night at 8 o’clock, we prayed Psalm 91 for the protection of our troops and soon we stopped seeing our people killed in action. Before we started these prayers, we were sustaining as many as four to five casualties each week. After we started praying Psalm 91, they ceased. We didn’t have any more casualties.”

| For months following that encounter, life for Downing was extremely different—as though he had been given a new lease on life. Perhaps that “something good” he had heard about most of his life was finally happening to him. Returning to North Carolina in 1989, his military career behind him, Downing set about doing what he knew God called him to do. He taught at a small Bible college in Winston-Salem, N.C., then worked in the public school system with children who had special needs—something that brought him a lot of fulfillment. Even more fulfillment would follow months later as he stepped into his first full-time job as a pastor. “That’s when I really began to think God’s Word was coming to pass because many good things were happening,” Downing recalls. “I had just bought a house, I was teaching part time and pastored a church that was doing very well. “We were doing things in the denominational church other people were not doing. We were holding marriage retreats, youth rallies and festivals and bringing in speakers. We were even looking at building another church.” There, Downing met and later married Inza Jones, the woman who would help solidify things in his life. “Life was good,” he remembers. “I said, OK, this is what Brother Copeland was talking about. The Lord blessed my ministry while I was in the military, and now He’s blessing it on the outside.” Blessed Going Out

A Work Undone

But in reality life was not so good. While he felt fulfilled in his work, deep down there remained a longing. “I always wanted to be an Army chaplain and I knew that’s what the Lord was urging me to do,” he recalls. Though he had answered what he thought was the call on his life, Downing realized, “God was calling me back into the military.” In 1997, at age 43, the pastor told his congregation he was leaving and began making plans to return to the life he walked away from nine years earlier. Pleas to stay and a generous offer to increase his salary did not change his mind. Money was never an issue with the church, and he told them that. “God had something He wanted me to do that I

couldn’t escape,” he recalled. “I argued with God because I really didn’t want to go back into the military. But I knew in my heart He wanted me there. Although I didn’t know what it was, I knew there was a purpose.” Confirmation that Downing was to return to the military came quickly. While he thought his age would prevent him from being commissioned, Downing learned that because of his prior service he was not too old. When he argued with the Lord that he was overweight, God challenged him by saying, Exercise and watch what you eat. For a final confirmation he told God, “If You want me to go, bring me back in at the same rank.” God’s answer was quick and direct. I will. Then, Downing made one more request. He told the Lord he wanted to return in January 1998, and not have to start serving midyear.

In November 1997, after enduring a barrage of paperwork, Downing received a call from the Chief of Chaplain’s office saying he had been selected to return to active duty in the Army’s chaplaincy. “I need to know two things,” Downing responded. “First, at what rank am I coming back? And second, when am I going on active duty?” “You keep your rank,” came the response. “You’re coming back as a captain, in January.” Start a Revival

Not long after Downing returned, the Lord made it plain why he was back in the military and had been assigned to the 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, N.Y. I’ve called you back into the military to bring about revival. “Fort Drum has one of the most deployed divisions in all of the military,” Downing explained. “We were being deployed to Afghanistan and Bosnia, and not everyone was making it back. The spirits of our troops were not very high. I wanted to do something for the installation as well as the soldiers, and I asked the Lord what we could do.” God reminded him: I’m bringing you back into the military to bring about revival. But how? he wondered. I’m just one person. I can’t do this by myself. Contact Brother Copeland. The words resounded about as loudly in Downing’s head as those he heard when Oral Roberts spoke those many years ago. He immediately questioned what he had heard. “Brother Copeland? “Lord, do You know how much mail he gets? Do You know how busy he is? He probably won’t even see the letter or read it. You want me to write him a letter inviting him to come to Fort Drum and not send an offering?” Yes, contact Brother Copeland. Finally, Downing relented, got a friend to help him write the letter and mailed it. “A couple weeks had passed, and I was sitting in my office when the phone rang,” he recalled. “Chaplain Downing, this is Kenneth Copeland,” said the voice on the other end. “I got your letter about coming. Man, I’m excited. I’ve been believing God would come to the military. Let’s make this happen.” Surprised, Downing kept his composure long enough to respond: “Yes, sir, you come and we can make it happen!” A First Meeting

On May 19, 2000, Kenneth Copeland saw one of his long-standing dreams come true when he stood to address members of the Army’s 2nd Battalion (Assault) 10th Aviation Regiment at Fort Drum and a group of

civilians. Having been a military man, it was an opportunity he had always prayed for. Speaking to the soldiers before a number of them were to be deployed to Kosovo, Brother Copeland spoke about Preparing Your Spirit for Combat and the Storms of Life. He told the soldiers the Body of Christ needed to be trained in the army of the Spirit. Brother Copeland also told them: “I’m giving you an assignment. You had to learn the orders of the day. Now learn God’s order of the day—Psalm 91!” Seated near the front, just as he had been nearly a decade earlier, was Chaplain Downing. But unlike before, this time he was not confused. He understood why he had been placed in the presence of this man of God. On three subsequent visits in 2001, 2003 and 2004, Brother Copeland returned to Fort Drum where he held three-day meetings with the soldiers. In those meetings, and at one in March 2006 at West Point, Kenneth Copeland Ministries distributed thousands of resource mater ials to the troops, including teaching tapes, CDs, DVDs and books— which many soldiers took with them when they were d e p l oye d t o p l a c e s l i k e Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Kosovo. One resource they became attached to is connected to the assignment Brother Copeland gave the soldiers on his first visit to Fort Drum. It was a printed card bearing Psalm 91—scripture that speaks of God’s divine protection. “We reworded the card to fit the 10th Mountain Division because we were taking casualties,” Downing said. “Each night at 8 o’clock, we prayed Psalm 91 for the protection of our troops and soon we stopped seeing our people killed in action. Before we started these prayers, we were sustaining as many as four to five casualties each week. After we started praying Psalm 91, they ceased. We didn’t have any more casualties.” A decade ago, an uncertain Al Downing would not have been able to answer if asked what his purpose was in life. Today, he is five years away from fulfilling a 20-year commitment to serve his country. Yes, something good has happened to him. And his obedience has placed him right where God can use him to help make something good happen for someone else. V ictor y A p r i l

International Offices Celebrate Silver Anniversary

2007marks a milestone for Kenneth Copeland Ministries as we celebrate 40 years of ministry. And two of our international offices, KCM Africa and KCM Europe, also have reason to celebrate as they each mark their 25th year in ministry.

“We first give God the glory and praise that Brother and Sister Copeland obeyed the call to ministry, and later opened an office in South Africa, which serves Sub-Sahara Africa,” said a grateful James McClintock, who directs the KCM Africa office. “We look over the last 25 years and can truly say ‘Look what the Lord has done.’” Several major accomplishments have taken place since KCM Africa first opened their doors in 1982. They include: • h olding their first International Believers’ Convention (1996); • becoming the first international KCM office to print the Believer’s Voice of Victory magazine locally in South Africa (2000); and • hosting international outreach meetings with Pastors George and Terri Pearsons of Eagle Mountain International Church in Fort Worth, in 2004 and 2005 in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, South Africa; and in Gaborone, Botswana.

Go with the

This world is constantly plagued by shortages. Have you noticed? It seems everyone is always running short of something. | You never hear anyone say, “Oh my, I have more time than I need...I have more money than I can use...I have so many solutions, I’m having to hunt problems just to keep up!” Such words sound ridiculous in a world ruled by scarcity and lack. | Yet, those are the kinds of words you and I should be saying all the time. After all, as born-again children of God, we don’t belong to this pitiful world. We’re in it, Jesus said, but we’re not of it ( John 17:15-16). We belong to the kingdom of God—and

there are no shortages in that kingdom. by Gloria Copeland

The word kingdom means “dominion.” God’s kingdom is where God has dominion. Of course, God has absolute dominion in heaven and every child of God will ultimately enjoy the blessings of His kingdom. But, we don’t have to wait! If we’ll give God dominion in our lives here and now, we can experience “...days of heaven upon the earth” (Deuteronomy 11:21). “But Gloria, I just don’t understand how that’s possible. Everything in this world around us is falling apart. There’s nothing heavenly about it!” True. Christians who depend on this world aren’t doing very well these days. They’re limiting themselves to the world’s technology (abilities and answers), and they’re getting the world’s results. They’re looking to the outside instead of looking on the inside. It is on the inside that right now, you as a believer, have everything you will ever need and everything God has ever promised. The extra $500 a month you need for your family is in there. The new car you need is in there. The healing you need, the answers you need, the miracles you need—all of them are right there in your heart. God Himself lives in you. He came to dwell there the moment you were born again—and He is the source of all things. His Spirit is a wellspring of life, bubbling up continually within you. And unlike the wells of the world, this one never runs dry! Jesus Himself assured us of that in John 4 where He said, “Whosoever drinketh of this [natural world’s] water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (verses 13-14). Just think about that! Through the supernatural spring of His Spirit, God is continually imparting to us strength and power, guidance and counsel. He is providing us with a reservoir that will keep us fully supplied, not according to the meager resources of this earth, but according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). All we have to do is step into the Holy Spirit’s flow and we’ll have everything we need. Believers should never have to paddle around in the natural stream of things trying to keep their heads above water as the circumstances and shortages of the world drag them under. Instead of going with the flow of natural, worldly things, we should all start going with the flow of the Spirit instead.

Though everything in the natural world may look just as dark as it ever did, and everyone may still be telling you how impossible your situation is, it won’t matter.

Once God’s river starts to flow from within you, the whole natural realm has to yield to it.

From the Desert to the River Yielding to that supernatural flow begins with hearing and obeying the Word of God— putting that Word in our hearts and bringing it out of our mouths consistently, as God instructed us in Proverbs 4:20-23: “My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh. Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life” (The Amplif ied Bible). If you’re attending to God’s Word, when you have a problem you won’t think of going to the world first. You’ll go to the Word. You’ll find out what God has promised to do for you. Once you’ve found that promise, you’ll put it in your heart. You’ll believe it. You’ll speak it. Then faith will come alive inside you. Once faith comes alive concerning that situation, the power of God will explode in your heart and you’ll start walking in victory. Though everything in the natural world may look just as dark as it ever did, and everyone may still be telling you how impossible your situation is, it won’t matter. You’ll know you’ve stepped out of the stream of circumstances and into the river of God. And once God’s river starts to flow from within you, the whole natural realm has to yield to it. Bad situations, poverty, sickness and lack of any kind must bow their knees to His supernatural supply! I’ll never forget how desperate Ken and I were when we first tapped into that supernatural flow. We were so broke and so in debt it seemed we’d never get out. Ken was a student at Oral Roberts University and we lived in a dumpy, old house furnished in early Goodwill.

out—not by Jesus Himself, but by people like Peter, John, Philip, Stephen and Paul. Peter even raised a woman named Dorcas from the dead and “...many believed in the Lord” (Acts 9:42). Of course they did! God never meant for people to have to believe that His Word is true just because we say so. He wants manifestations of the Spirit to accompany and confirm it. In this last, great move of God on the earth, people are going to start seeing those manifestations again. Signs and wonders are going to follow the Word just like they did in the book of Acts. And if you’re preaching the Word of God, those signs are going to follow you! You and I don’t have to be bystanders who just watch what God is doing. We can be part of it if we want to, and I’m telling you right now—I want to! I don’t want to be tangled up with natural endeavors that won’t even matter to me a year from now. I want to be under the spout where the glory comes out! God didn’t put me in this end-time generation so I could fritter away my time on the temporary things of the world. He didn’t baptize me with the Holy Spirit so I could give all my time and attention to some silly thing that I won’t even remember next year. He equipped me with His power so I could flow in the Spirit and accomplish eternal things for Him that will last forever! He sent me here to show forth His mighty deeds and display His love (1 Peter 2:9). Jesus said, “...as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you” ( John 20:21). How did the Father send Jesus? He sent Him anointed with the Holy Ghost and with power (Acts 10:38). And He is sending us to live like Jesus lived. To do that, we must get out of the world’s flow and stop being limited by its sickness, poverty and lack of power. And we must start living instead in the flow of the Spirit. We must start living a life of abundance, blessing, health and increase—a life that acts like the Word of God is true, a life that lets the Holy Spirit lead and love and light the way. That kind of life is available now to every believer who is willing to step into it. It is ready to flow up from within you and provide you with everything you need to be all that Jesus has called you to be. So if you’re still on the bank of this mighty Holy Ghost river, watching and wondering whether you should take the plunge, let me encourage you to go for it. Don’t wait another minute. Jump on in...the water’s fine! V ictor y

HeritageofFaith Dear Kenneth, Congratulations on your 70th birthday! It has been 24 years since we connected on God’s harvest field, with well over 50 million souls receiving salvation in Jesus Christ. Thank you for your faithful engagement “to seek and to save the lost.” You have carried the lion’s share of the financial burden in this mighty undertaking and I am grateful for your commitment. I don’t know how to thank you, except that the Lord will be your great reward and that tens of millions of precious souls will thank you throughout eternity. “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). The Holy Spirit gave me this word, that He would “renew your strength” to fulfill you gloriously and supernaturally. You will mount up with wings higher than ever before, neither wearying nor fainting. Someone said to me the other day, “You won’t live forever, you know.” I replied, “Well, I’m going to have a good try!” I know that you would have said the same. I pray for your strength, health, prosperity and continued ministry in the Lord. Our warmest regards to you and Gloria. We look forward to many more years of hand-in-hand plundering of hell to populate heaven. Reinhard and Anni Bonnke Reinhard Bonnke Ministries Orlando, Fla.
