Hello! My name is Cory Chiu. I am rather new to the design industry, to be exact, I was still on my way to become an interpretor last year. Back then, design to me is a far-fetched, vague idea. However, I’ve been always interested in observing people and how things in life work and I find that producing ideas and making them into physical entity one of the most fascinating power a human being could possess. In the past intensive 10 months in UID, I taught myself most of the skills and was blessed to have many creative thinkers around to cultivate a resourceful mind and a critical eye. Inexperienced maybe, I’m more eager to learn. I’m looking forward to bring in fresh inputs and sharpen my own sights in this part of the world.

Whip or candy?
The person carried by the police cars is not necessarily dangerous or violent. Suspects/criminals can be fairly calm and obedient, which is mostly the case. In fact, There’s a whole lot of other types of passengers that could find themselves transported by a police car: a regular citizen who is in need of any sorts of help, a lost kid, a hammered/passed out man, etc. Thus, if any sort of constrainingdevice were to be placed, it should be flexible/adjustable according to different passengers.
After talking to the Swedish police, it came as a surprise that they actually want the interior to be open and friendly--since according to them, suspects are generally more relaxed and thus willing to talk in the car so it’s a good startup for the police to get familiar with them or even start interrogation. This being said, it’s still important to keep a moderate amount of authoritativeness because after all, this is serious business.

Help
“For every person that dies from a smokingrelated disease, there are 20 more who suffer from at least one serious illness associated with smoking.” VICTIMS
“Passive smoking kills 600,000 a year, including 165,000 children.”
? “Approximately 90% will fail their first attempt to quit smoking within the first twelve months.” Deaths caused by passive smoking worldwide(WHO)
Quitting smoking is hard and may require several attempts because of users’ underestimation of withdrawal symptoms, depenece on nicotine patch/gum, and stress.
HELPERS
Since single man fight doesn’t generally work, family/friend/community help will come as a more effective alternative. In any case, they are also victims of smoking. How to turn them into helpers and in turn make smokers realize the damage they’ve been causing to themselves and people around. Besides preachinhg, there should be something more effective o nthe plate.
