A P aul W inter S olstice C oncert Monday Night / Tuesday Morning, December 21st from Midnight—2am Celebrate the Return of the Sun - and the Warming of the Earth with an exuberant Feast of Sound captured live in the majestic Cathedral of St. John the Divine. WNYC's John Schaefer hosts this all new performance, featuring the Paul Rivera -- the "National Voice of Puerto Rico”, and Abdel Salaam's Forces of Nature percussion and dance ensemble. 6am: Christmas With Morehouse And Spelman Glee Clubs One of the great holiday traditions in America, the choirs of Morehouse and Spelman Colleges -two of the most prestigious historically black institutions in the nation -- get together to present a spine-tingling concert program of spirituals and carols. Korva Coleman hosts.

7am: An Afro Blue Christmas Join us for a very special holiday concert with Howard University's premiere vocal ensemble Afro Blue and special guest pianist Cyrus Chestnut. Hosted by Michele Norris.

8am: Jazz Piano Christmas XXVI NPR Music brings you another great concert from Kennedy Center. Kenny Barron, Fred Hersch, and Carmen Staaf perform their favorite holiday songs in a program hosted by Felix Contreras.

9am: Festivo Alt.Latino With Gaby Moreno & Friends Alt.Latino continues its homegrown tradition of celebrating the holidays in song with a special show featuring songwriter/performer Gaby Moreno and her band performing tracks from her popular 2014 album Posada.

10am: Joy To The World – A Holiday In Pink The internationally acclaimed “little orchestra" Pink Martini bedecks the airwaves with festive holiday songs from across the globe. Hosted by All Things Considered’s Ari Shapiro.

11am: Song Travels: Home For The Holidays Join Michael Feinstein for an hour of yuletide cheer and music, from silver screen to Birdland club.

12 noon: Joy To The World From the producers of Mountain Stage and West Virginia Public Broadcasting, this live performance of holiday jazz hosted by pianist Bob Thompson, featuring guest vocalist Mollie O’Brien, performed before a consistently sold-out audience in Charleston, West Virginia’s Culture Center Theater, as well as at additional live road shows around the Mountain State, is a 22-year old traditionCollaborations, traditional holiday music from both sides of the border and three outstanding performers will make Festivo Alt.Latino a "Must Do" holiday celebration!

THE ANNALS OF JAZZ WITH RICHARD HADLOCK Sundays at 7 pm

The sound of surprise describes both jazz itself and the enduring premise of "The Annals of Jazz." Since 1959, host Richard Hadlock has been improvising on historical themes and bringing forth worthy performers—from Armstrong to Zorn. Each Sunday, we may find Annals in Europe, Asia, Latin America or Back of Town anywhere.

12/7 Peter Bernstein

Guitarist Peter Bernstein is an anchor of the straight-ahead jazz scene in NY. He is a model of taste and swing, a careful developer of the language of bebop, and may be the foremost guitar interpreter of the music of Thelonious Monk.

12/14 Helen Sung

A product of the fertile Houston jazz scene and alumnus of the Thelonious Monk Institute, Helen Sung is a pianist whose classical training comes through in her elegant and dynamic approach to modern jazz.

12/21 Michael Moore

A native from Eureka, clarinet and saxophone master Michael Moore has found a great niche in the forward-leaning jazz scene of Amsterdam. His warm sound and distinctive playing have cemented his reputation as one of the greats of the European jazz world.

12/28 Dave Burrell

Pianist Dave Burrell was one of the leaders of the free jazz scene in the late sixties, and has spent the decades since then refining his quirky and open takes on standards and originals. He’s been an important part of the Philadelphia jazz scene and has stayed active and creative as a sideman and bandleader for five decades.

12/1 A Tribute the Late Kenny Wheeler

Kenny Wheeler’s stunning compositions and imaginative improvisations on trumpet and flugelhorn left deep impressions on generations of musicians. Two such devotees — trumpeter Ingrid Jensen and saxophonist Steve Treseler — explore Wheeler’s legacy and revisit his compositions at the Royal Room in Seattle.

12/8 Wayne Horvitz in Seattle

Keyboardist and composer Wayne Horvitz made his name in New York, but for over 20 years he’s been synonymous with his adopted hometown of Seattle as a player, a bandleader, a venue operator, and a teacher. Discover his influence on the city’s jazz ecosystem through his students, his collaborators and the annual Earshot Jazz Festival.

In an era where the jazz standard songbook is ever expanding into the 21st century, The Ladybugs, a young band rooted in the vocal harmony jazz tradition who draw on elements of hot swing, American folk music and blues, look back at the Disney catalogue.

12/22 Merry Merry Big Band

To ring in the holiday season, Jazz Night in America spends the hour with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra performing highlights from their holiday songbook.

12/29 Jazz Prodigy – Joey Alexander at Jazz at Lincoln Center

Jazz Night In America explores jazz prodigies from different eras. We highlight 11-year-old pianist, Joey Alexander, whose first album came out this spring.

Trumpeter Ingrid Jensen's performances as a leader and featured soloist have taken her around the world. On this 2000 Piano Jazz, musical selections include A Child Is Born and Chelsea Bridge.

12/9 Holiday Special

On this 2006 Piano Jazz Holiday Special, host Marian McPartland takes a look back at some favorite Christmas and holiday songs performed on the show throughout the years.

12/16 Ruby Braff

Trumpeter and cornetist Ruby Braff (1927– 2003) drew his style from the influences of Louis Armstrong and Bix Beiderbecke. On this 1992 Piano Jazz, Braff joins McPartland for duets of Thou Swell and Blue and Sentimental.

12/23 Art Hodes

Jazz pianist Art Hodes (1904 – 1993) got his start as a musician in Chicago, but his big break came when he moved to New York in 1938. In the 1950s, he returned to Chicago, where he remained active on the jazz scene as a performer, educator, and writer. On this 1984 Piano Jazz, Hodes plays St. Louis Blues and Someone to Watch Over Me.

Pianist Eric Mintel is on a mission to bring jazz to the masses. His playing is straight-ahead but energetic, lyrical, and always swinging. On this Piano Jazz from 2005, Mintel talks about improvisation and the art of getting gigs before sitting down to play These Foolish Things.

12/3 Oaktown Jazz Workshops

The 6th performance from the In The Moment Concert series, with the Oaktown Jazz Workshops recorded October 3rd, 2015 at Musically Minded Academy in Oakland. The OJW presented their version of Art Blakey’s Album of the Year recorded by the Jazz Messengers in 1981, in Paris.

The Anton Schwartz Quintet, recorded November 1, 2015 at the newly reopened Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society, the late Pete Douglas’ Beach House on Miramar Beach in Half Moon Bay. With Josh Nelson, Joel Behrman, John Shiffett and Lorca Hart.

New Orleans based vocalist/flutest Cindy Scott with longtime associate, guitarist Brian Seeger, recorded at the California Jazz Conservatory, in Berkeley, on July 25th, 2015.

12/24 Mark Murphy

The late vocalist Mark Murphy, a fearless innovator, who passed away recently at the age of 83. Recorded at the legendary Los Angeles venue, the Jazz Bakery on June 23rd, 2007. With Dean Taba, Kendall Kay and Misha Piatigorsky.
