An Unlikely Friendship

Follow a surprising friendship that emerged between an embittered Klu Klux Klan leader and an outspoken black activist. In the early 1970s, Ann Atwater, a poor welfare mother, and C.P. Ellis, the Exalted Grand Eyclops of the Durham Klan were on opposing sides of the debate over public school integration. Initially, their relationship was fraught with distrust and hatred. A profile of two African-American brothers—Louis and Carl Stokes—who changed the course of American politices. Also included are intimate recollections from their friends and collegues, including President Barak Obama and Jesse Jackson.
