Highlights New Orleans: Getting Back to Normal
Follow Louisiana homeowners and business owners immersed in rebuilding their lives and neighborhoods after Hurricane Katrina. From a decorated firefighter who is trying to restore his once grand home while living in a FEMA trailer to a wheelchair-bound woman who tells of her dramatic airlift onto a helicopter, people share stories about the floodwaters and their rescues, relocations and separations, the loss of friends and neighbors and their continuing need for support and their hopes for the future. Ten Sisters
The 10 Waggoner sisters of Paradise Township Ill., grew up caring for one another in their rural two-room home when their parents were too distracted by financial troubles and disagreements to nurture them. The children slept 10 to a bed, combed each other's hair, bathed in the creek and led an otherwise happy life despite their meager posessions. But everything changed in 1942 when the sisters were made wards of the state and would be separated from eachother, destined to never see their home again. Tuesday, January 3 at 10:00pm
On Story This new series focuses on the inspiration and creative process at the conception of the filmmaking process. Interviews and footage from leading screenwriters and fimmakers dicussing their craft and films was recorded at past Austin Film Fesitval panels and screenings. Each conversation is paired with a short film from an emerging filmmaker which has been previously screened a the film festival. Every Friday, Beginning January 13 at 8:30 pm
Stokes: An American Dream
A profile of two African-American brothers—Louis and Carl Stokes—who changed the course of American politices. This inspirational American story begins by chronicling the Stokes' poverty-stricken childhood in Depression-era Cleveland and moves through the Stokes' education, law careers and rise in political prominence during the turbulent civil rights era. Also included are intimate recollections from their friends and collegues, including President Barak Obama and Jesse Jackson. Tuesday, January 17 at 8:30 pm

Follow the events of that school year and the courage of the black students who were subjected to racially motivated violence, harassment and protests by white supremacists. Come Walk in my Shoes Get a fresh, first-person perspective on the nonviolent protests that challenged segregation laws in the South and prompted the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965. The journey begins in Montgomery, AL where the then-18-year-old college student first met Martin Luther King, Jr. and ends on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, where an angry mob brutally beat the future congressman while leading a peaceful march.
