Inside On Air

On The Cover July 2010 The Fourth of July commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, and the birth of the United States of America. Often associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, political speeches and ceremonies, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. On Sunday, July 4th, KCSM presents the dazzling fireworks display in Washington, DC (3,2,1 Fireworks at 8:00 pm) followed by the celebration of the strength of America's unique cultural, racial and religious diversity with arrangements of well-known patriotic melodies such as The Stars and Stripes Forever and America the Beautiful presented by artist Marina along with the West Point Cadet Glee Club and band. (Marina At West Point: Unity through Diversity, at 8:30 pm) KCSM wishes you and your family a safe and happy holiday!

Dear KCSM Members, Oh summer time…. what a wonderful time of year. Summer always takes me back to my youth, when I used to spend the entire summer at my grandparents farm. Absolutely no responsibilities. Those were the days one thought would last forever. But that doesn’t mean that nowadays we need to go to a farm to enjoy these lazy summer days. We can certainly enjoy summer at home, with the added value knowing that you won’t miss any of your favorite KCSM shows. Travel the world without the expense and the hassle. Learn about other cultures, enjoy drama and mysteries, learn about history, wild life, the human experience, art, comedy, and entertainment. And that is only in the evenings.

During the day you can learn about culture and cuisine from remote corners of the world, or how to make the best barbecue in your own back yard. If you have ever wanted to play music, we send The Piano Guy to your house every afternoon to teach you how to play the piano. Spend the summer painting and crafting, or working on your model railroad, all with the help and compliments of KCSM. Or perhaps you would rather learn more about how to take better care of your pet, or how to sew and quilt. Let’s not forget about our wonderful gardening, baking and decorating shows. And if you have children or grandchildren, we have programs to teach them how to draw, cook and become successful business people. Do you want to stay fit for life? No problem, we have two hours of exercise programs every morning to help you do so. You see, at KCSM there is something for everybody, and not only during the summer time, but year round. So I’m taking this opportunity to ask for your continued support. We believe we are a valued asset to our community, and as such we need the support of our community as well. If you are reading this letter you most likely are a member already, so help us spread the word and recruit your friends, neighbors, family, co-workers and anybody you think will enjoy our great programming. Have them become members of KCSM and we promise you we will continue to provide you with the best educational and entertaining programs you know us for. So learn how and learn now, and keep watching and supporting KCSM, your truly independent public television station. Have a great summer!
