But whatever’s in store, The Jim Cullum Jazz Band swings their way through some of your favorite warm-weather classic American jazz tunes.

Producer/Arranger Quincy Jones While "Q" (b. 1933) is probably best known for his work in television, film, and popular recordings, he has deep roots in jazz. Quincy (pictured) started out as a teenage trumpeter and arranger with the Lionel Hampton band. His tremendous passion for jazz led to collaborations with Count Basie, Billy Eckstine, and Frank Sinatra.
7/15 Bassist Ray Brown 7/22 Composer/Bandleader Tom Talbert 7/29 Pianist Jaki Byard Writing in memory of Jaki Byard (1922-1999), Peter Watrous noted that Byard (pictured) "was a stylistic virtuoso, his fecund imagination saw comparisons and contrasts everywhere and his improvisations were encyclopedic and profound. He also had a sense of humor that rippled through everything he played." Byard's playing was all encompassing, covering everything from stride and ragtime to modern polyrhythms and atonality. Principally acknowledged as a pianist, Byard's eclectic stylings enhanced the music of Maynard Ferguson, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and Charles Mingus.

Thank You To Everyone Involved In Jazz On The Hill After a 9-year hiatus, Jazz On The Hill 2013 welcomed over 4,000 people on June 1st. It was a beautiful day to celebrate, welcome new friends and come together through music. It takes a village to put on a festival, and Jazz On The Hill was no different. We would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make this festival a success: our small full-time staff of 15 (who—the next day—were definitely feeling every one of those years since the last time we did this!) to our part-time on-air announcers, our army of volunteers, and the talented musicians who put on great performances. We are grateful for your ongoing support of this community jazz station. You are part of something special...so spread the word. And, we'll see you next year!
