Dear Customer,
Change2Gain Make The Switch To Us Today!
Welcome to the Summer 2013 Edition of the KCS Informer. As usual this edition of the Informer is packed with a mixture of interesting articles, new product features and sales promotions.
See pages 14-15 for details
As many of you will already know, we pride ourselves on the level of customer care that we deliver to our customers and once a year we ask you for your feedback on our actions. Now in its 8th year, the KCS Annual Schools Customer Care Survey provides us with this feedback. We are very proud of the results that are detailed in this edition of the Informer. Our MFD/Photocopier contract which is specifically aimed at schools and colleges, promises to save you money and give you peace of mind. The article and various illustrations will hopefully illustrate why you should follow the huge amount of schools that have already signed up. We always like to bring you a first and the new Titan Plus antibacterial classroom chair is just such a product. Once again, thank you for your continued support and if you have any further ideas or suggestions in relation to KCS, please do not hesitate to contact me. Best regards, Steven Munday Divisional Director, Educational Supplies T: 01622 605485 E: steven.munday@kcs4education.co.uk umbe Issue N

22 New MFD Contract
Don’t Be Misled... If it looks too good, it possibly is! Here are a few common factors that you may need to look out for:
1
“The Offer Of Marketing Support”
2
“Free Machine”
3
“Open Ended Contract”
4
“Freedom Of Information Requests”
5
“Check The Small Print”
Some agreements will offer you “marketing support in years one & two”, the costs are then increased in the final years to pay for this. Remember to look at the full cost over your selected time period.
“Pay for your toner only and receive a new machine”. It is difficult to work out the true cost of a copy when you pay for toner. When paying a click service charge as with KCS contract, you only pay for what you use.
Be careful to read all the Terms & Conditions as the machine will have to be funded, whether over 1 year or 5. If you want impartial advice on terms and conditions, call our photocopier team on 0845 872 4234 who can help.
It has come to our attention that schools are being sent requests under FOI by suppliers asking for information relating to their current agreements. Please beware this is a way of gathering FREE marketing information that may be commercially sensitive and you can decline these requests on that basis.
Look out for “annual increases”, “collection charges”, “double click rate for A3”, “minimum billing”, and “you remain liable for all costs if the establishment closes”. “These are just a few clauses to beware of, which can significantly increase the cost of what looks like a good deal on the surface. KCS’s contract will protect you from this.

28 School Shout!
Aiming High... At Brookfield Junior School we are ecstatic about our recent OfSTED judgement of “good”. We are particularly pleased to have been judged ‘good’ under the new OfSTED framework. Our school motto is “Aiming High”, and that’s exactly what we did. We kept the quality of our children’s education as a focus at all times and worked well as a team to ensure our children are happy and engaged in their learning. In October we released hundreds of balloons to celebrate our achievement. Some labels have been returned from as far afield as Belgium! It is good to know that we have spread the word about our good school across the continent. Brookfield Junior School Larkfield, Kent

In Memory Of Emily Rose The sad loss of an eldest daughter to a rare form of cancer has been the catalyst for Matt Loughrey to raise money for the charity CLIC Sargent and his latest challenge is to cycle across the USA. The plan is to cycle 3,200 miles in just 20 days with one rest day. That’s ten hours cycling to make up 150 miles a day. Five of those days will be spent cycling through deserts! Some interesting stats: • His body will burn 56000 calories a day • He will need 1012 litres of water a day • The average temperature will be 80 degrees • He will have approx 10 punctures (if lucky) • He will fall off his bike at least once! • He will turn his pedals 54000 times a day • He will lose approx 14lbs in weight With friends and family he has cycled the length of this country from Lands End to John O Groats and also from Chatham to Gibraltar. This together with quiz nights, pamper evenings, marathons, triathlons, skydives, gigs and abseils have resulted in the raising of in excess of £83,000 for CLIC Sargent. The Medway Messenger has provided great support over the past 5 years and has also adopted CLIC Sargent as its Charity of the Year for 2012 and pledged to help us raise the £25k required to make £100000. I Want To Ride My Bicycle, I Want To Ride My Bike... Wybourne School has held a series of bike events to encourage children to get cycling.
These events included Dr Bike, a chance to have bikes checked by professionals for road worthiness, Cycle Skills Training for Years 2 to 6, specifically targeting children who could not ride or did not have access to a bike, Big Pedal, a virtual race around the coastline of the UK by all “Bike it” schools, a question and answer visit from Anna, one of the SUSTRANS team who actually cycled around the coastline, and a second Cycle Skills Day when another 34 children learnt to ride.
Year 6 pupils took part in a BMX training session at Hornfair Park BMX track. To celebrate the Olympics a “Bling your Bike” day was held, giving the children the chance to decorate their bikes in Olympic colours. Assemblies have also taken place on the benefits and safety when riding a bike. SUSTRANS have generously donated 3 balance bikes for our early years children and a range of cycling accessories and prizes too.
who could not ride or did not have the opportunity to ride a bike.
Wybourne were successful in winning a small grant bid, via the local authority and Transport for London. The funding has enabled the school to purchase bikes for a school bike pool, helmets, lockable storage and other accessories.
Our current bike club has 10 children taking part. This half term unconfident riders in Yrs 5 and 6 have been offered the places. Next half term it will be Year4’s. The aim is to have all of our pupils riding a bike by the end of the school year.
Following the success of the cycle skills sessions it has become obvious that there were many children
Wybourne School LB of Greenwich
We have been lucky enough to be lent 2 tricycles, specifically designed for disabled and SEN children and this has enabled ALL of our children to have the opportunity to experience riding a bike. We are a fully inclusive school and proud to be able to offer a fully inclusive bike club.

Thames Festival Kids Choir
On 9th September 2012, nine Year 6 pupils from Coopers Lane School took part in the Thames Festival Kids Choir. This is an annual event, when approximately 600 school children from across London come together for a public performance in ‘The Scoop’, which is located next to City Hall, by Tower Bridge. This year, the music was a specially commissioned piece, written by renowned folk singer, Sam Lee. Entitled ‘A Song for a Thames Silkie’ he wove his wonderful songs around the story he created of a mythical Scottish creature called a Silkie (a seal in the water and a man on land) , who falls in love with a wherry girl at the time when Tower Bridge was under construction. The children worked extremely hard to learn not only the tunes, but the many words; and performed the piece flawlessly, despite the intense heat of the day! Crowds packed around the Scoop to enjoy the children’s singing, which was accompanied by a brass quartet and the ‘Junk’ orchestra. The enthusiastic applause made all the hard work worthwhile! Well done to Zoe Burlinson-Marcoul, Hollie Williams, Chloe Jarvis, Cameron Thomson, Ines Sow, Izzy Barnaby, Betty Rafique, Natasha Taylor and Ellie Owen. Coopers Lane School LB of Lewisham
