STATEMENT OF NOMINATION
Why should this president be recognized? Word Limit: 1,000 To whom it may concern: It brings me great pleasure to submit Kyle Dimla’s name for consideration in the CNH District’s Distinguished President Contest. Ann Sobrato has begun a legacy: one that prides itself in excellence and its commitment to service. Kyle’s diligence as a leader serves as an inspiration to anyone who seeks to be great. Under his leadership and guidance, the members he serves are now well-educated in the very fundamentals that bring success to this organization. As a close friend and an inquisitive member, I have consistently relied upon Kyle for answers and suggestions to inquiries regarding Key Club. I have also seen him form close bonds with his executive board, often going out of his way and cooperating with them to help fulfill their responsibilities. In doing so, I have time and time again personally witnessed Kyle prove himself to be a loyal, intelligent member and president. But his service to Division 12 South does not cease at the club level; Kyle also serves as the Division News Editor, publishing monthly editions of The Scheme which far surpass the expectations of standard newsletters and are known for their uniqueness, vibrancy, and appeal. His goal as News Editor was to make a name for 12 South, to highlight the accomplishments that the Division has achieved, and to recognize members and their efforts on a regular basis. Kyle Dimla exemplifies the Key Club motto, “Caring—our way of life,” always wearing it upon his shoulder, grinning ear-to-ear and proud to share it with every individual he encounters. He promotes Key Club Core Values — caring, leadership, character building, inclusiveness — at any and every opportunity presented to him. Kyle is the archetype of the ideal Key Clubber. I may have only known Kyle for a time period just shy of one year, but in these last few months, I have come to understand what it truly means to be a member of Key Club International. It is nearly impossible to put into words just how much Kyle has moved me as a person, as a friend, and as a Key Clubber. He has taught me what it means to serve your community, to be social, to always seek out new opportunities, and to be optimistic in every situation. I can always count on him for anything — advice, assistance, recommendations — because that is the person he is: reliable. After this term, 12 South will surely lose one of the most devoted, loving, and caring members it has seen in years. I am lucky to call him a friend. Kyle’s passion, determination, and love for Key Club distinguishes him above the rest. His dedication to service, his club, his friends, his school, and his community is unmatchable by none. Therefore, it is with great honor that I hereby nominate Kyle Dimla, Ann Sobrato Key Club President and Division 12 South News Editor, for the CNH District’s Distinguished President Contest. Donald Franks
CNH PRESIDENT | LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION In all my years as a Key Club member, I served simply to serve. I knew my actions were bettering the community, but I never considered their true impact and how they affected the way my peers looked at me. Upon receiving these letters of recommendation from my Kiwanis adviser, Lieutenant Governor, and club Vice President, I am honored to see that I have been able to play such an important role in my home, school, and community.

855 Claremont Drive Morgan Hill, CA 95037 January 8, 2014 Regarding: distinguished Key Club President, Kyle Dimla candidate Dear Key Club Committee Members: It is my pleasure to work with Kyle Dimla and the Morgan Hill Ann Sobrato Key Club. He is articulate, organized, well-mannered and enthusiastic role model of what a Key Club Member should be. Kyle sets high expectations and communicates them well but is flexible and sensitive to others requirements. His energy and positive approach are contagious The members work well with him and follow his positive leadership. He is an ideal candidate for Distinguished Vice President both as a role model of a club officer and as efficient organizer of many community service events for the club. The Ann Sobrato Key Club chartered 2012 and has in excess of 75 members this year. Kyle was one of the 4 core members responsible for organizing the club and the most enthusiastic. The club has participated in DCON, District and local events from its first year. It is already renowned in Morgan Hill for its community service participation and the energy the Key Clubbers bring to their activities. The charter and district requirements are followed and Club meetings are run in a highly organized fashion. Kyle maintains required documentation and reviews Key Club communications to insure compliance. Kyle’s leadership skills and personality facilitated the service mindset, responsibility and fun approach to being a Sobrato Key Club member. The club itself is run by the members with a minimum adult interaction. The Key Club report out weekly to the Kiwanis Club and we are amazed at their commitment as well as the energy which they approach their projects. Kyle has created and maintained the club website and Facebook accounts. He has encouraged online volunteer opportunities and sign up to make volunteering experience easier. This has increased number of volunteer hours with better communications, individual responsibility plus champions have a record of whose coming. He is also edits the Division 12S newsletter. At DCON and District events, Kyle demonstrated leadership with fund raising , creating expectations, optimizing the experience and having fun. He insured that all, including freshman and their adviser, knew what was expected in terms of behavior and experience, the nuts and bolts of the activity and that all were included in a rewarding and fun experience. Kyle has been the spirit and organizational force for the club. He recruits great members which is so necessary for growth and service. Kyle has the additional role of fund raiser and service projects coordinator for the club. He has organized over 50 Service projects this year. He recruits project volunteers, reports commitment, arranges transportation, communicates details in person and by social media to volunteers, completes paperwork and happily reminds members of their responsibilities. It is a pleasure to recommend Kyle,
Mary Lou Conragan, Key Club Adviser
Lindon Tran Division 12 South Lieutenant Governor 662 Hathaway Court San Jose, CA, 95136 17 February 2014 To whom it may concern: I would like to recommend Kyle Dimla to be honored with receiving the Distinguished President award. Kyle has never failed to exceed expectations and has always given more than 100% of his efforts. Alongside serving as a dedicated Ann Sobrato President, Kyle was also the Division 12 South News Editor, giving his efforts to both his club and division. Being able to work alongside this golden leader has been an amazing experience. Kyle did an astounding job as President. He not only set goals for his club but also pushed to give his members the best experience possible. Seeing him grow into the leader he is today has been an incredible journey. It was also apparent that as Kyle grew as a leader, his club blossomed as well. The members were inspired to serve and to make a difference. He pushed the members and officers he served to partake in all Key Club events, such as Key Club Week, Division Council Meetings, and club fundraisers within the division. As a President, one of the biggest challenges throughout the term is to stay motivated and to continue motivating the members you serve. Without a doubt, Kyle has overcome this obstacle by staying optimistic and determined. He is dedicated to serving the members and has inspired many, including myself. His work is rewarded with the progress of his club; Ann Sobrato has become one of the strongest clubs in the division, constantly reporting a large amount of service hours each month and actively participating in all division events. In conclusion, Kyle’s leadership development and growth shows in how he professionally communicates with adults and works with all types of leaders within his club board. I believe that Kyle Dimla is more than eligible to be awarded with Distinguished President. Sincerely, Lindon Tran
January 25, 2014 To whom it may concern: It is my honor to recommend Kyle Dimla for Distinguished President. As Ann Sobrato Key Club’s vice-president, I have been working closely with Kyle Dimla throughout the year. Kyle Dimla is a great leader who is still continuing to grow to his fullest potential. From academic to extracurricular activities, Kyle knows his priorities and utilizes his time management. As a senior, Kyle was still devoted to Key Club even though he was busy with college applications and other senior activities. He never once neglected his responsibilities, and continues to work hard in everything he does. His wisdom and devotion for Key Club easily influences others around him as he discusses his achievements and goals with others. Kyle is improving every day in order to become a great role model and leave a legacy within Ann Sobrato Key Club. As president, Kyle Dimla ran Ann Sobrato Key Club efficiently throughout his term. He went above and beyond the requirements of a president’s responsibilities. Kyle is one of the top five people in Ann Sobrato Key Club to have the most hours. He is always planning ahead for the club so every month is busy for the members. Kyle Dimla is an essential figure in Ann Sobrato Key Club. Even though he is president, Kyle never wanted to intimidate others with his title. He is an open person in the club, and a paid member like everyone else. Kyle was part of the original board of Ann Sobrato Key Club, when it first formed. He started out as a bulletin editor, but now he is president and division news editor. I understand how challenging it may be to hold two different positions in Key Club, however, Kyle manages both jobs well. He has never showed negligence to either position, and puts all his efforts in his publications. I believe Kyle has changed dramatically in that time span. He has improved as an exceptional leader who works his hardest on any task that his giving. When Kyle is facing difficulties regarding the club, he always consults with the officers to get their opinions on the situation. His consideration of others is one of the qualities I respect about him. I believe anyone has the skills to become a leader, but it depends on how they apply it to their everyday lives. Kyle Dimla is one of those leaders that have shown tremendous growth as our club president through hard work. There are no limitations to how much a person can grow. It is a pleasure to work closely with Kyle Dimla and see his personal growth throughout the years. His passion and perseverance to achieve his goals has deeply influenced me to become a better leader. Kyle’s role as a president held the club together, even during the most difficult times. He is a fundamental element to Ann Sobrato Key Club as everyone depends on him. It is an honor to recommend Mr. Dimla as Distinguished President of the CaliforniaNevada-Hawaii District.
Sincerely, Amy Tran Ann Sobrato Key Club Vice President 2013-2014
CNH PRESIDENT | CHECKLIST By leading several meetings and board meetings throughout the term and communicating with officers and members, I had the opportunity to hone my leadership skills and public speaking abilities. The many Key Club workshops and training conferences I have attended have taught me how to set goals and bring back information to Ann Sobrato’s members. As a president, I worked closely with our Lieutenant Governor and other club presidents throughout the term to unite our division.

CNH PRESIDENT | AGENDAS Organizing club meetings with agendas helped me deliver information and manage time more effectively. Not only did it contribute to how I organize all my notes outside of Key Club, it also helped me manage my tasks and responsibilities such as homework. Creating agendas organized in short bullet points like this has also contributed to my public speaking abilities. It has helped me cover information more effectively and thoroughly outside of the written words on a paper.

CNH PRESIDENT | CLUB ACHIEVEMENTS During my term as a Key Club president, I worked my hardest to push our club to new heights and really set a lasting foundation for club systems and logistics. Throughout the year, I set goals for our club to increase the number of service hours completed, projects designed, and members participating. This section details the numerous projects and awards that Sobrato Key Club has worked through and for in order to better our community.

ELIMINATE WEEK Awarded with the LTG’s Award Ann Sobrato Key Club went all out for ELIMINATE Week 2013 on the week of May 6th to May 10th. On May 5th, club members met at my house to spray paint and write on clothespins to promote the ELIMINATE Project as well as create colorful and attention-grabbing donation containers. To create the containers, we spray painted old boba cups and tissue boxes and decorated them with cut-outs and ribbon. In order to really promote that the ELIMINATE Project works with babies and mothers, we bought a few baby bottle coin jars to decorate too. We also printed the posters provided on the official ELIMINATE Project campaign website to post on our lockers and in teachers’ classrooms with their approval. Using blue beads and letter beads, we created little bracelets that said “ELIMINATE MNT” and “KEYCLUB.” I designed a graphic calendar of each day’s activity for ELIMINATE Week and utilized social media to further promote what ELIMINATE Week is about. On Wednesday, many club members wore blue and we gathered to take a photo spelling out “ELIMINATE” with papers. On Friday, we hosted a small Pie-an-Officer in the local community park to raise money for the ELIMINATE Project. By the end of the week, we raised nearly $100 total! With our combined efforts, Ann Sobrato Key Club effectively captured the hearts of teachers and students at Ann Sobrato and gained their support for the ELIMINATE Project. Our Lieutenant Governor, Lindon Tran, challenged clubs to do their best to promote the ELIMINATE Project at their schools. The most active clubs would be awarded with the ELIMINATE Week Spirit Stick. At the May DCM, Ann Sobrato Key Club was awarded with the ELIMINATE Week Spirit Stick along with two other clubs in Division 12 South!
Hosted the Division 12 South May DCM For months, Ann Sobrato Key Club officers and members planned and designed the Division 12 South May DCM to be hosted in Ann Sobrato High School’s gym. In junction with our DCM, it was a “Pro-Bending Competition.” Our club mascot is the Fire Bender, so we designed the DCM to be Avatar: The Last Airbender themed. Division 12 South members could form teams to compete in a series of games including the Human Knot and Avatar Trivia. The point of the “Pro-Bending Competition” was to raise money for the ELIMINATE Project and PTP. Each team member paid a registration fee of $5 and attendees paid $5 for a combo meal. Each team had a name and by the end of the competition, everyone won a prize. The winning team won Ann Sobrato Key Club’s Firebender tank top for free! The first prize drew in a lot of competition and attendees, despite the fact that our school is somewhat far from the rest of Division 12 South clubs. Members set up the food tables, put together the prizes, and even decorated the bleachers according to the four elements: air, water, earth, and fire. With the collective team work of the Kiwanis Club, Key Club members and officers, and a few school officials, the event was a great success! We raised nearly $100 to donate to the ELIMINATE Project and PTP.
Club of the Month JUNE & DECEMBER
FOR WHAT? I am pleased to present Ann Sobrato Key Club as club of the month of Division 12 South for the months of June and December during the 2013-2014 term. As recognized by our Lieutenant Governor, Lindon Tran, the title of club of the month really boosted the motivation and Key Club pride of the members that I serve. All of the hours served by members, all of the funds raised from our projects, all of the hours dedicated to planning and coordinating events really paid off. For the month of
June, we were recognized as club of the month for our outstanding amount of service hours despite the fact that our club is in a different town far away from most service events in San Jose. In the month of December, we were recognized as club of the month for the great amount of member involvement at service events and the DCM. I am proud of the club that I serve and I could never ask for a better group of Key Club members to work with to serve our community and better the world.
SCHEDULED SERVICE Anderson Lake Park
As our highlight of the early months of 2014, our club set up several park clean ups at the different picnic sites at our local county park, Anderson Lake Park. Thanks to project coordinator Andie Koldewyn, we were able to get our hands on a steady schedule of service events throughout the months. Not only did these service events bring us hours, they also brought in new members and promoted our club among Sobrato High School students. Andie and other club members invited people from all different groups of our school including other service clubs, Civics students in need of hours, and friends to Anderson Lake Park to beautify the natural scenery! After our first park clean up in January to celebrate the second year of being an
official chartered club, we got several people interested in joining our club! It was a definite success and was a great way to start off 2014 with a good amount of service. By volunteering regularly at Anderson Lake Park, we have become familiar with the park rangers and have gained a good reputation in our community. Now whenever an organization involved in the city of Morgan Hill needs volunteers, they definitely know who to call! I never expected the park clean ups to have turned out so well – we got service hours, new members, and a great reputation as well as a steady income of upcoming events for our members.
CNH PRESIDENT | KIWANIS RELATIONS As a Key Club president, I acted as a liaison between Key Club members and our sponsoring Kiwanis Club of Morgan Hill. I attended Kiwanis meetings, Kiwanis DCMs, exchanged numerous e-mails with our main advisor, and made sure we had Kiwanis advisors at club meetings and DCMs. Other than meetings with the Kiwanis, I encouraged member participation at Kiwanis-hosted events.
KIWANIS RELATIONS SPECIAL RECOGNITION Aside from working in conjunction with the Kiwanis to host our May DCM, we wanted to take a moment and give something special to our primary advisor Mary Lou Conragan. Mary Lou has done so much for us in the past few years and helped us so much when getting chartered and attending DCON – we honestly could never thank her enough. During the weeks preceding the May DCM, my past president Megan Langga and I planned to get Mary Lou something worthwhile. After the meeting portion of our DCM, we made a few announcements, including our warm thanks to our Kiwanis Club and primary advisor. We ordered a customized plaque as a token of our thanks and presented it to Mary Lou along with an obligatory bouquet of flowers! We wanted to make sure that our Kiwanis advisors know that we love and appreciate them so much.
KIWANIS RELATIONS SERVICE | ANNUAL PIRATE’S COVE Every Halloween the Morgan Hill Kiwanis Club hosts a Pirate-themed walk through display at the Downtown Morgan Hill Safe Trick-or-Treat fair for little children. As Key Club president, I was obligated to get Ann Sobrato Key Club members involved with the Kiwanis and our community! I worked closely with the Kiwanis coordinator to get volunteers assigned to their positions and constantly introduced it at our meetings to get more and more sign ups. As the day drew near, our volunteers helped set up in the lot where the display is hosted. During the event I was co-manager of volunteers and directed members to necessary tasks and assignments accordingly. All decked out in pirate costume and character, our volunteers worked greatly with our
generous and friendly Kiwanis Club members. We stood out on the street next to an enormous sign painted by the Kiwanis Club president and promoted the display as well as managed the different moving displays in the walk through with our Kiwanians. Ranging from strung up skeletons to projected pirate skulls on pumpkins to a robotic captain skeleton calling out passing by children, our volunteers found plenty of opportunities to work with our Kiwanis Club. It was a pleasure spending the Halloween night entertaining young children with our Kiwanis Club and collecting donations for scholarships in the future!
CNH PRESIDENT | COMMUNICATION During my term as President, utilizing every means of communication was key to the success of my term. As a president, I learned to keep updated on my e-mails and timely responses. The power of efficient communication played a huge role in the progress of my club’s activities. By reaching out to advisers and members via e-mail, we got business sorted out in no time. In addition to e-mail exchanges, I had to make quite a few phone calls during my term to ensure adviser attendance to events and approval for various ERFs. As a Vice President last term, I utilized e-mail a lot, but this term I gained important knowledge on sending formal and professional e-mails to different volunteering organizations and my Kiwanis Family.

Club Communication
REMIND 101| MESSAGE SYSTEM CLUB WESBITE Text @66068 to (209) 748-4844 sobratokeyclub.weebly.com
In order to efficiently communicate upcoming events and meeting times to the club, I designed and maintained a website and mass text message system with the help of my bulletin editor. Displayed below are the home page, updates page, and upcoming events page of the club website.
These tools of communication have proved to be very effective and have helped me better the club members’ awareness of meetings and club projects. With the website, members have access to club, division, district newsletters as well as meeting agendas, event recaps, upcoming service sign ups, and any other updates regarding club business. All necessary forms and printouts are available on this website for club members. The text messaging system was introduced by my club’s bulletin editor; however, I managed the updates most of the time. I sent out texts for club meetings, service events, and more. Some were even scheduled ahead of time to be sent at a certain time of day.
Communication with Members Aside from the occasional emails from members personally asking me about club dues and events, I have sent out numerous emails to individual members or groups regarding big events such as OTC, RTC, and DCON. The example e-mail I have provided to the right is the email I sent out to members interested in attending DCON 2014. The e-mail includes lots of information, so I formatted it like my LTG does when he sends out e-mails on the division reflector.
COMMUNICATION With the Kiwanis Advisors
Shown above is a thread of emails shared between me and various members of my sponsoring Kiwanis Club, the Morgan Hill Kiwanis. Our main adviser Mary Lou Conragan could not attend our Conclave so we had to network with other Kiwanians to get a replacement adviser. Shown below are emails with my faculty advisor and Region 17 advisor in preparation for Fall Rally North. We needed our faculty adviser present after school and I needed to sort out rides to Fall Rally North with our region adviser.
Faculty Adviser Sample Email Region Adviser Sample Email
COMMUNICATION With Division 12 South
Aside from keeping closely updated on the Division 12 South Reflector on Google, our LTG Lindon Tran kept all presidents closely updated via email with updates on Division business and topics like division programs and DCON 2014. Sample update email from our LTG Lindon Tran shown on the left regarding Key Club Recruitment Week and more.
COMMUNICATION With the CNH District
In addition to keeping updated with the CNH District on the Google Reflector with various updates and news on District business and events (shown above), I also emailed and contacted District committee chairs if I ever had a question. Below is a sample email thread with Member Recognition Chair Carissa Yen regarding applying to judge District Contests.
To the left is an email thread with MR Chair Carissa Yen about the District Judging. I was wondering if my application for Distinguished President would affect my capability to judge.
CNH PRESIDENT | MISCELLANEOUS As a leader of Sobrato Key Club I wanted to set the bar high, just as I did serving as Vice President for the 2012-2013 Key Club term. Throughout the term I constantly thought about how to make club activities more efficient and brainstormed new and innovative ideas to bring the club I serve that extra mile of service and ambition. By thinking outside of the box, I grew as a leader with new and creative ideas to expand membership and promote our goals as a club, division, and district.
PAGE 40
MISCELLANEOUS Club Graphics I decided that posting blocks of text to remind members of events and goals on the club Facebook group and through emails because members would not like to read through a bunch of paragraphs was inefficient and started to create graphic calendars and reminders for upcoming events and goals. The graphics shown to the left were used as club Facebook group cover photos. The graphic below was used as the event photo for a public speaking workshop that I hosted for the members I serve in preparation for club election and Conclave. They proved to be very effective!
MISCELLANEOUS Club Graphics
To promote club goals for the month, I posted a graphic at the beginning of the month. I was not able to create a graphic for every month of this term, but I was still able to promote and reach most of the goals shown on these monthly updates. With these graphics I shared our service hour goals, ideal amount of funds raised for a preferred charity or purpose, and attendance to upcoming events.
MISCELLANEOUS GOOGLE DRIVE USAGE
During my term serving as a president, I learned quickly that Google Drive is LIFE. I kept everything on Google Drive and even transitioned our service records to a Google Docs spreadsheet for easy access for the club secretary, Gabby Baniqued. I could share records and information very easily with the other board members and had Project Coordinators log service hours into our records easily. We did not use Google Drive solely for service hour records; we utilized it to its fullest potential. Google Drive submission forms made my life and our club’s success so much easier. I set up several Google Submission forms to collect orders for different fund raisers and shirt orders as well as incoming officer applications and project coordinating.
Google Submission forms were especially used to keep track of sign-ups for service events. Names, numbers, emails, shifts, and more could easily be logged and used for reference when entering the actual hours in the Service Record and our MRFs. Our record keeping was proved to be extremely efficient and allowed our club to analyze progress and set goals for upcoming months. I even created a Goals document that shows each month’s projected goals and the number of hours completed or dollars raised for a certain preferred charity. By implementing a heavy usage of Google Drive features, Ann Sobrato was able to reach that extra mile to become one of the strongest clubs of the division.
