MAMA PAT’S WORDS OF ADVICE
READ BY APRIL WINSLOELucy and Cameron, your family and friends have gathered here today to share the special celebration of your marriage. It has been quite a journey. You grew up in close proximity, but you had to travel across the world to London to meet…quite a trek. You have both grown up in loving family homes, environments, communities, and freedom. Parents who have provided and encouraged you both to take every opportunity to achieve and choose your careers. Your choice to become teachers is admirable. A career which is so important in today’s world because the children today are the next generation of society.
But today it is all about the declaration of your love for each other. The promises and commitments for your married life. To share your dreams and aspirations.
In the noise, confusion, and unpredictable world we live in, take time to listen to each other. Be aware that often the words spoken in anger can be so hurtful and don’t solve problems…walk away and cool down.
Speak kindly and quietly. Be thoughtful and sincere. Be decerning and speak wisely.
As you travel through life unexpected events will occur…. Some sad….tragic and many difficult. How you deal with such times will show your integrity. But there will be plenty of special and happy times. Rewards for your labours and achievements. Satisfaction and joy of creating your own home. Most importantly special and happy family events to celebrate. Enjoy and share good times with friends. Participate in your community and enjoy our beautiful New Zealand.
So hold hands….
Let your love and heart beats give you peace and strength to face whatever life has in store. Love and enjoy your life together. Be positive and be happy. From all of us we love and wish you good health and every happiness. Thank you for the privilege to be here today.
LUCY’S VOWS
From the moment we danced together in London and then became snapchat friends, I knew you were the one for me. Your confidence, sporting talents and dance floor moves had me hooked and it also helped that we had a mutual wingwoman to sow the seed and forecast our marriage, before we had even met.
I have always been a planner, with the biggest one being my ‘life plan.’ Meeting and falling in love with a boy that I didn’t know from Gore whilst on the other side of the world was unpredicted and unplanned, yet has turned out to be all that I could ever want and dream of. While it would have been nicer to happen sooner, and in Gore, good timing and patience has been everything in our relationship. Meeting you in our late 20’s and waiting for us to both be back in NZ has brought us here today to join us together as the de Winsloe’s, making it worth the wait.
You give me so much happiness and confidence and are very easy-going and domesticated. I appreciate that you attempt to decrease my stress levels and improve my decisiveness and that you put up with my endless chatter or ‘white noise’ as you like to call it. I love all the thoughtful things you do for me, the meals you cook and the nightly bedtime kiss before going to sleep. I love that you are motivated and driven, that you organise surprise dates, and that you will cuddle me – even though you don’t like them and get too hot. You make me feel completely loved and supported in all that I do, regardless of how much I overthink or overplan things. I love that you constantly believe in me, pushing me and making me better, even with my reluctance and excuses. I choose you as my life partner because I know that together we can achieve anything as you are the positive voice of reason in amongst my head of craziness. Our future together will be one of busyness, entertaining, attempted to-do lists, and quality ‘Lucy and Cam’ time. Already we have created so many great memories together and I know these will continue, especially in our holidays – the perks of both being teachers.
Today I Lucy Joanne de Pass take you Cameron Craig Winsloe to be my husband, my soul mate, and my best friend. I promise to make you laugh, and to keep our love fun, exciting and full of adventure. I promise to support you in all your endeavours, whether it is to do with sports, professionally or in your mission to attain the best lawn in Halswell. I promise to always be open and honest with you and to fulfil my pink and purple jobs. I promise to respect and inspire and at times frustrate and challenge you – which can be difficult when you are right about most things 90% of the time. I promise to love you through the good and the bad, through joy and sorrow and to grow old with you as your faithful wife. You are all that I could ever need, and I am excited for our future together. I promise to give you my life, my love, and myself fully and completely.
Forever and always, I love you.
CAMERON’S VOWS
Lucy, you burst into my life when I least expected it and although it wasn’t perfect timing, I think that is one of the many reasons we are standing here today. I knew you were someone special when we first danced together at the polo, I was spinning you around and dipping you to the ground, yet you trusted me, even in my intoxicated state. From that day forward I tried to get you to notice me, I even enlisted the help from a good friend of ours, but you played hard to get, and I thank you for that. The past two years have been crazy times and we have been forced to make many life changing decisions (well I have as you over think them) but I’m glad that you have gone along with some, no most of my crazy ideas. You really do have my back and I know that I can always count on you. Building a home together has been a highlight for me and now that I finally have my grass, you’ll have more time for the pink jobs as I tend to the blue. All jokes aside though.
Lucy Joanne de Pass…I love your kind and caring nature and that you are always willing to help
I love your competitiveness and drive to win and your passion for sport
I love your bright blue eyes and shiny smile when I walk through the door after a hard day
I love your work ethic and even your perfectionism
I love you for all that you are, all that you have been and all that you will be.
I Cameron Craig Winsloe take you Lucy Joanne de Pass to be my wife. As your husband, I promise to listen to you with an open heart and a supportive mind I promise to be around and support you as our kids grow up
I promise to keep teaching you knew skills and supporting you with your sporting ventures
I promise to care for you in all the good times and the challenging times.
Lucy I am so glad that our paths finally crossed, even though we grew up so close together when we were kids, and both studied to be teachers, it took moving to the other side of the world to find each other and I am so grateful for this. I can’t wait to start this next chapter together as one and see what comes our way. I know that you are going to be an amazing mother one day and our four boys will be so very lucky. Together we make a formidable team.
Lucy Joanne de Pass I love you!
