Our story

This love story began in Dec 2017, where all great modern romances begin – Tinder. Having swiped left on the all of Wellington, Justin widened his range to the whole of the North Island and stumbled across Nicole. It wasn’t until after they matched that Nicole discovered they weren’t in the same city. She totally felt like she was being catfished but curiosity got the better of her and she agreed to a first date. Justin jumped on a plane and intended to jump into Nicole’s arms but they were not at all like they expected each other to be. Nicole sent out an SOS to friends and family, anyone! to come and save her. Their solo date turned into a groupie which relaxed them both, so much so that Nicole saw a very endearing side to Justin in the way that he interacted with her friends. When they eventually had a moment together Justin asked for a kiss and that kiss wiped away all of Nicole’s fears and uncertainty and sparked a beginning.

They realized soon after Justin left, that there was something special between them and this began 6 months of doing long distance. They got to the point where they just couldn’t be apart so Justin packed in Windy Wellington for Auckland.

Justin made all of Nicole’s dreams come true. Diamonds, a Mansion, a fur baby but most of all he’s the man of her dreams. Not prince charming… her words, not mine… but she was never looking for prince Charming. Nicole says he is the most patient, loving, caring, gently spoken, humble, loyal and accepting man that she has ever met. He accepts her craziness with giggles and laughter. Wipes her tears and accepts that she can cry for hours.

About Nicole, Justin says - she is stylish, thoughtful and understanding, yet silly and goofy. She always has an answer to his indecisiveness and tolerates his obsession with NBA Basketball, sneakers and video games. She makes him feel at ease when he’s frustrated, stressed or in-pain… and most of all he says she is his home. This marriage is the start of a new chapter in their lives, they’re choosing life with each other and this is the beginning of their happily ever after.

Justin and Nicole -from your own experience you’ll know that two people together in partnership are stronger than the one standing alone. Today you both bring to the table your own strengths, but you also have your own weaknesses, which is actually a good thing, because it’s these things that cause you to grow not only as a person but also as a team.

Justin’s vows

I, Justin, take you, Nicole, to be my wife. I vow to be manly. The one to pick up all of Millie’s poops and squish all the spiders. I vow to be Inspiring. To continue to make you proud and one to look up to.

I vow to listen to you and learn from you.

If that handbag is on sale and it’s the last one left. YOU GO GET IT GIRL, IT’S FATE. I vow to be Mr. Incredible. Strong, never back down.

Lastly, I vow to be equal. If I spend a couple of hours watching a basketball game, we can spend a couple of hours watching embarrassing bodies or botched.

On good days or bad days, rain or shine, you’re still the one that I love. Forever and always.

Nicole’s vows

Justin, standing here, is the biggest blessing I received yet. You are my biggest supporter, my #1 fan, my daily reminder, my personal I.T support, my dictionary, my therapist, my best friend and now my husband. With our many differences, or perhaps being the complete opposites, what a journey it has been for us in the past 4 and a half years. You are a man with little words, and I am one who can be unstoppable at times. You like to take your time and I like to get things done quickly. You can be extremely indecisive and I know exactly what I want. Through the differences we share, I am grateful because I got to learn how to be more patient, a better listener and to enjoy life at a slower pace from you.

I apologize for putting you through the most awkward and difficult situations but not once have you thought it was too much for you to handle. I like to keep you on your toes at all times and you have proven to me using these past few years that you are ready to have me forever. I am not perfect, but you treat me as if I am. You look past all my flaws and only focus on my best. I wish to continue being someone who you can be silly and yourself with. You are truly the best!

Justin, I vow to work hard for us, to give you more time to respect you, to love your family, to make less of a mess, to love you forever and be the best mum to our future children and Millie. I vow to communicate, share my ups and downs and ask about your day. In sickness or in health, I vow to be there for you and for my best. For poorer or richer, I vow to be loyal and to hold your hand.

Justin’s speech

We would also like to take this time to thank our parents. I will start and Nicole will follow. Thank you Mum and Dad for your support, generosity and nagging as this has shaped me into who I am today. To Daddy Wu, thank you for your two cents in everything I do. The advice and experience you share has gone a long way, such as, “that’s not good enough, go do it again”, “go ask your mum” and the most important one, “don’t become a doctor” … This has caused me to develop OCD in cleaning, follow orders (I mean compromise on disagreements) with Nicole, and continue to have a full head of hair at 26.

To Mum, thank you for volunteering yourself as our wedding planner. Sending wedding related articles and magazine pages in the post, morning texts with our “homework” daily reminders, and video catch ups that then get sidetracked to you speaking to our sleeping furbaby Millie. As a full time housewife, Nicole hopes to one day walk in your footsteps. Mum and Dad have been the most incredible sponsors and this project has been a very successful one.

I love you both equally. Dad, for your everlasting financial and moral support, encouraging me to give everything my best, and free medical advice. And Mum, for holding down the house chores, drop off and pick ups from school when I didn’t want to walk up and down the hill home, and hugs and kisses for the first day of each month. On behalf of Nicole, I feel she agrees that you are the best parent-in-law’s and will continue to show your love and support to her as you do to me. You two have grown me into the caring person, good listener, and humble man I am today. I love you.
