Greetings!

This past year has been a whirlwind here at KQ with lots of exciting changes. We’re happy we can fnally share with you what our company has been working on.

First of, the big news… we have added A Scarlet Thread Quilt Shop to the Keepsake Quilting and Pineapple Fabrics family! If you are unfamiliar with A Scarlet Thread, you are in for a treat! Karen and Ken Taylor founded their store in 2007 in McDonough, Georgia. During the Covid-19 Pandemic, Karen created a new way to sell their products through Live Online Sales–similar to the QVC shopping channel but tailored for quilters and sewers. Within the frst few minutes of watching her live show you’ll understand why we wanted her and her team to join our Pineapple and Keepsake family.

Secondly, we have a brand-new website! It has been in the works for the last year. We’re also happy to share Pineapple Fabrics’ unique and innovative product line, which will now be available exclusively on KeepsakeQuilting.com. Not only that, we also now have more dynamic search functions, faster load speeds, one-click checkouts and more integrated apps to make your shopping experience convenient and enjoyable. In light of our new developments, we thought it was the perfect time to give KQ a new look as we move into the future. We have a brand-new logo and a totally revamped catalog. Stay tuned for newlybranded merchandise and KQ swag showcasing our new look coming soon!

Cotton

Cotton is natural, light and breathable, making this batting a popular choice for bed and throw quilts of all sizes. It machine washes and dries very well so the finished objects can be used daily. Cotton is the heaviest weight and is the better option for machine quilting. It feels great to needle for hand-quilting as well. Generally must be quilted closely, 3-4˝ between lines of stitching. Take care in choosing bleached or unbleached. A predominantly white quilt top may look dingy without the added brilliance of a bleached cotton batting.

Polyester

Polyester is a synthetic fiber popular with quilters and crafters because it holds its shape and thickness quite well. Polyester is durable and has a variety of loft options (think pu ness). Low-loft polyester battings are good for handquilting as they don't need to be quilted as closely together. The higher lofts are good for when you want the quilting stitches to really stand out. Polyester battings are usually warmer without a lot of extra weight.

Cotton/Poly Blend

The best of both worlds! Usually blends are 80% cotton and 20% polyester. This allows for the breathability of cotton while the polyester adds a bit more loft.

Wool

Wool is a breathable, natural fiber that is a favorite choice for both hand and machine quilters. Wool fibers have both loft and resistance, which create great insulation without additional bulk. They also allow for the quilting designs to really take charge of your quilt. Hand washing and air drying are recommended.

Cotton/Wool Blend

The warmth of wool but lighter-weight at the same time. Usually blends are 80% cotton and 20% wool. Can be machine washed and dried on the gentle and cool settings. This blend is 100% natural fiber, but can shrink. Make sure to check the description to see if the batting has been pre-shrunk

Loft

Loft refers to the thickness/height of the batting. Low loft batting will give you a more traditional, flatter quilt, while higher loft battings will result in a pu er appearance. High loft batting is useful when tying your quilt layers together or can have a pleasing impact when hand or machine quilted, as it raises the unstitched fabric, creating gorgeous texture.
