2024
March
I grew up next door to a girl who was my age, and we would spend countless hours at each other houses. As we got old enough, we loved having sleepovers... until around 10 pm. Every single time, I would get homesick, pack up my stuff, and walk across the driveway to be in my own room. As I got older, my Girl Scout troop scheduled a fun sleep-away weekend camp. All of my friends were going, and I was so excited!! But when it came time for my mom to leave, the tears showed up, and I ended up in the car headed back home with her. I was just not ready.
What I am ready for is our annual Summer Camp Issue ! We have received phone calls, emails, and messages for the last few weeks asking when the much-anticipated summer camp issue will hit the stands. Well, the wait is over, and it is time to prepare for serious planning.
With the plethora of opportunities for camps in the area, your child can explore new interests, enhance skills in a sport they love, or participate in educational opportunities, all while having fun with new friends! Consider sitting down with your child and checking out this year’s camp guide together. As usual, it is packed with everything from art camps to zoo camps and so much more, including overnight camps and full-day camps. It does not matter if your child is interested in sports, theater, music, science, or all of it; you will find many options in this valuable resource. So pull out your highlighters and calendars and flip over to the 2024 Summer Camp Directory.
As I mentioned earlier, the timing of my first sleep-away camp was a little early. However, I have many friends, including my husband, who counted down the days to go away to summer camp. They had days full of activities, met friends from different places, and had a blast! You may ask yourself if your child is ready for sleep-away camp. In Seven Signs Your Kids are Ready for Sleep-Away Camp, Tanni Haas provides some helpful thoughts. It may be that your child is ready, but you are not. If you are still a bit nervous about sending your child too far away, there are some overnight camps here in our area.
If you think your child is not quite ready (or you are not quite ready) for sleepaway camp, but you still want your child to have that full-day camp experience, check out the options in Sarah Lyon’s article The Camp Next Door . Day camps offer much of what an overnight camp offers, but you still get to tuck your kiddos in at night.
I hope you have as much fun reading this month’s Summer Camp Issue as we had putting it together. Also, check out all the fun events scheduled this month in the Family Calendar. With spring just around the corner, we enjoy even more community events in the area! Hope to see you there!

Resolving Sibling Conflict
“My children are constantly fighting, and I am losing my mind!” All parents with more than one child have expressed this frustration at least once. Just know sibling conflict is a normal and valuable part of family life. These fights can be beneficial because they can teach interpersonal skills that will last a lifetime. These skills include listening to others, cooperating in tense situations, appreciating a different person’s point of view, and managing emotions.
When your children are around four to five years old, you should begin teaching them how to mediate conflict. Successful mediation is a skill that must be taught and practiced. This means you will be helping them mediate hundreds of conflicts before they know how to do it independently.
What not to do...
sibling conflicts will only increase because you are not teaching the skills they need to manage the conflict on their own.
What to do...
1. Be quiet, observe your children fighting, and do not allow yourself to make assumptions. You might be surprised by what you learn.
Do not ignore the fighting or rush in and take control. When you do this, the
2. You must stay calm. Do not add to the chaos by being overly emotional.
3. If a child is physically or verbally aggressive, stop the behavior and remove the child from the situation. You do not want your children to believe aggression is an appropriate way to get what they want.
4. Give everyone some time to become calm. Make it clear that no one will talk about the problem until everyone is calm.
5. When everyone is ready to communi-
cate, make the rules for the conversation clear. For example, everyone must listen, everyone is responsible for helping solve the problem, etc.
6. Clarify what argument will be discussed. Force your children to work through the most recent conflict and prevent them from bringing in past experiences.
7. To build empathy and understanding, allow each child to share their perspective.
8. Encourage the children to explain possible solutions. Have them act out what they will do the next time this conflict arises.
Things to remember...
1. Treat all children fairly, but not the same. Every child has different strengths and weaknesses. Help them learn what to do in areas where they are weak and encourage them to continue developing in their areas of strength.
2. Use encouraging speech. Avoid saying things like, “You are older; you should know better.” Instead, point out what should have happened and have the child practice.
3. Be prepared. Your children will fight; have a plan for how you will respond when this happens.

What Are Those Bumps?
Hey guys! Today, we will talk about a rash that has been popping up on many kids lately and is causing stress for many parents. That rash is called molluscum contagiosum and is very common. All three of my kids have had it and were fine. Molluscum is viral-based “bumps” that typically show up on kids and usually bothers parents more than the child! Today, we will address what molluscom is, how it’s transmitted, the typical course, and the treatment approach.
So, first, what is molluscom? It’s a viral-based infection in the poxvirus family and is highly contagious. It occurs in parts of the world that are warm and humid (aka Baldwin County) and is transmitted primarily through direct contact with lesions (for example, sharing towels, clothing, and toys). It typically affects kids from one to ten years old but can affect any aged person. So how do you know if you have it? Molluscum lesions start as small, painless, fleshcolored papules or nodules with a dimple in the middle. They can range in size from a pinhead to the size of a pencil eraser. They
occur in clumps and can spread in a line if scratched. The difference in this rash is that it will stick around for a few months to a year and a half and really not change, while most infectious rashes will resolve fairly quickly. The bumps can pop up anywheretypically, the trunk, armpits, legs, and face are common places, but not on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet. Finally, the bumps will start to go through different stages over the course of 9 to 18 months! The first bumps will often get bigger and redder and then will usually rupture with a “white head” on them. Then, new bumps pop up in different areas, and the cycle starts all over. It’s important to know that the virus lives on the skin’s surface, and once the bumps are gone, you are in the clear. The molluscum bumps will not lie dormant and then pop up again years later.
So what can you do? Different surgical options include scraping, needling, and freezing, and medicine options include “beetle juice.” However, these treatment options can lead to trauma for the child,
scarring, and/or skin discoloration. We usu ally intervene only if the child has secondary bacterial infections like MRSA or has severe irritation. Typically, we do nothing! The body’s immune system will fight off the molluscum on its own, but the key is to understand that the process can take a few months up to one and a half years! That’s right, one and a half years!
Does that mean you must keep your child away from all other kids for one and a half years? Of course not! Molluscum is so common that keeping your child away from someone who has it or away from all others if your child has it won’t help, nor will it prevent it from spreading. So, use common sense and always wash your hands, but remember, if a rash bothers you more than your child, I can pretty much guarantee that it’s OK!

Michelle Sikes has been speaking Spanish for the last 25 years and teaching Spanish in the public school system for four years. She currently teaches Spanish at Spanish Fort Middle School and loves every minute of it!
“I became a teacher because I wanted to make a positive impact in the lives of children and teenagers,” shared Ms. Sikes. “Having teenagers of my own, I see the struggles they face and the pressures of life even at their young age, and I want to contribute to their future by being a voice of wisdom, encouragement, and hope. I feel that teaching allows me to serve families within my community every day by loving our children well and offering them guidance and support.”
Ms. Sikes describes her teaching style as creative, unorthodox, and maybe a bit chaotic, but she believes this strategy keeps her students motivated and engaged in their daily activities.
“I don’t use a textbook or specific curriculum. My ultimate goal is to teach the language and meet standards with as much fun as possible in the classroom,” she said. I’ve found that when students have fun in the classroom, they are more highly engaged and participate. The more they participate, the more they learn. If you make learning fun, it’s not a chore. They want to be in your class each day. Therefore, my lesson plans are filled with games, songs, music videos, skits,

competitions, and many activities that get my students out of their seats and moving around the classroom.”
After graduating from Lee University with a B.A. in Church Music, Ms. Sikes relocated to Ecuador for a year to serve as a music missionary. She fell in love with Spanish and decided to return to South Alabama to pursue her M.Ed. in Spanish.
“I fell in love with the people, the Spanish language, and the Hispanic culture. Once back in the States, I continued working full-time and serving in the Hispanic community,” she explained. “I teach now with a desire to share the beauty of the language and culture with young people. I believe being bilingual opens many more doors and opportunities than ever before. Even though she has only been teaching for a short time, Ms. Sikes hopes that each of her students knows they were created for a significant purpose. She also hopes that they will dream big and go after that purpose with courage and determination once that purpose is discovered.
Ms. Sikes has two beautiful daughters, Emily and Ellie. Emily is 19 and a student at the University of South Alabama. Ellie is 16 and a junior at Spanish Fort High School. Ms. Sikes loves beach days, cooking, watching Alabama football, and spending time with her daughters, family, and friends. She recently started golfing and playing pickleball and is having a blast. .

www.facebook.com/easternshoreparentsmagazine
“I grew up in a home where both my parents could cook, and it was fun! We would have ethnic night once a week where they would pick food from different heritages. We would try so many different foods,” said Rachael Perdue-Harris of Daphne, AL. “I think this is where my love for cooking came from and why I associate food with love and bonding time. I also come from a big family up north, and we would always go to my Grandmom’s and have dinner to celebrate birthdays, report cards, and all the things.”
Rachael currently works as a front desk clerk at Belforest Elementary but also has a culinary degree.
“When we are all home for dinner, we enjoy sitting around the table talking about our day,” she said. “If you’re home and dinner is ready, then it’s mandatory that we sit together. That was always a rule in my home growing up, and I passed it on. Breaking bread with people is bonding time and togetherness!”
Rachael and her husband Elliot have been married for seven years and have three boys. Alden (16) loves playing soccer for the Daphne High School team, Drake (12) is an avid golfer and basketball player, and their youngest, Porter (8), enjoys playing goalie in soccer. The family enjoys the daily shuffle of extracurricular activities, watching the Pensacola Ice Flyers hockey games and attending concerts to hear live music. They also love to attend Eastern Shore Baptist Church on Sundays.
The dish Rachael and her family are sharing with us is Lazy Stuffed Cabbage, which is Rachael’s take on a childhood favorite called Golumpki.
“My mom worked from home, so we always had a delicious home-cooked
meal, and one of my favorites was Polish stuffed cabbage or, as my mom calls them, “Golumpki,” Rachael reminisced. “She would work hard on this dish, prepping and rolling the stuffed cabbage rolls. I wanted to share the dish with my family, but the time was not always there, so I would make the casserole version, which is basically a deconstructed Golumpki.”
There is no doubt you will enjoy adding this recipe to your collection.
Lazy Stuffed Cabbage
Ingredients:
• 2 cups long cooked rice
• 1 ½ oz fresh dill
• 1-2lbs lean ground beef
• 1 small yellow onion chopped
• olive oil
• 4 cloves crushed garlic
• 1 Tbsp sweet paprika
• 1/2 tsp cayenne
• 28 oz crushed tomatoes
• 8 oz tomato sauce
• 1 Tbsp cider vinegar
• salt/pepper to taste
• 1 head of cabbage
• 2/3 cups grated Mozzarella
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350.
2. Toss cooked rice with dill and set aside.
3. Brown ground beef in skillet (you can add a little olive oil if meat is very lean). Drain
meat and set aside in a bowl.
4. Heat olive oil in skillet and add onions, garlic, paprika and cayenne. Cook until onions are brown and softened.
5. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, cider vinegar, salt and pepper to pan and stir. Allow it to bubble a bit then turn it down and allow to simmer for 5 minutes. Add beef back to pot and keep low. Taste to adjust any of the seasonings. I like to add garlic powder and onion powder here.
6. While sauce is on low, chop the cabbage very small. I cut leaves off the core and chop.
7. Grab your 9x13 casserole dish. Add a little olive oil around dish to keep ingredients from sticking.
8. Layer shredded cabbage, then top with meat sauce, then layer rice. Add more cabbage. I press it down to compact then add last of meat sauce.
9. Place in the preheated oven for 45 min.
10. At the last 5-10 minutes of baking, add the mozzarella cheese. Enjoy!
Chef Tips:
• You can make ahead of time and freeze.
• Sometimes if we don’t want a starch I’ll replace rice with riced cauliflower.
• You can use shredded cheddar for a more tangy taste instead of mozzarella.
• Cut up a green bell pepper and sauté with onions to add more veggies.
• You can even add a creamy layer in by using 7oz of creme fraiche and mixing it with 1 Tbsp of fresh lemon juice and layering that in between the cabbage and meat sauce on the last layer.

It’s time to decide whether or not to send your kids to sleepaway camp, but how do you know? How can you tell whether your kids are ready for their first extended stay away from home? You can’t know simply by how old they are. “There are some six-and seven-year-olds who march eagerly off to camp without a problem,” says Bob Ditter, a camp consultant who’s worked with sleepaway camps for more than four decades, “while some eleven-year-olds cower with a fear of becoming homesick.”
7 important signs that experts say should inform your decision.
1) They express an interest in going to sleepaway camp. The first and most obvious indicator that your kids might be ready for this important milestone in their young lives is that they express an interest in it. “If they start to show interest in camp or ask for permission to go,” says Kaitlin Kirby of Tiny Beans, a well-known parenting site, “it’s a strong sign that they’re ready to pack their bags and head off for a week (or more!) of fun.”
2) They’ve had one or more successful sleepovers with peers. It’s a good sign if your kids express an interest in going to sleepaway camp, but how have their past experiences sleeping away from home been? Have they had sleepovers with classmates or friends that went off without a hitch? You may want to hold off on sleepaway camp if the opposite has been the case. Jess Michaels of the American Camp Association advises parents to use past sleepovers as a diagnostic tool: “Has your child been successful when away from home? If your child felt panic stricken and needed to come home in the middle of the night, sleepaway camp might have to wait.”
3) They understand what sleepaway camp entails. Sleepaway camp involves much more than being away from your parents for a couple of days, a week, or longer. It also requires kids to be flexible and navigate new and unexpected situations, be able and willing to follow instructions from caregivers other than parents and teachers, and to exhibit independence and personal initiative.
Consider this before making any final decisions. “Before you can feel confident that your child is ready for camp,” Ms. Kirby says, “you’ll want to be sure they know exactly what they’re getting into.”
4) They’re flexible and can navigate new and unexpected situations. Erica Patino of Understood. org, a major parenting site, suggests that parents ask themselves how flexible their kids are: “Is switching gears hard for your child? If it’s time to put away an art project and move on to a new activity, will your child get upset or resist?” Most sleepaway camps have jampacked schedules, so it’s important that your kids can switch from one activity to the next without feeling overwhelmed and stressed. More generally, Ms. Kirby says, your kids should be able to navigate new and unexpected situations: “Whether it’s participating in a new music or art class, an activity like karate or archery, or simply strutting into new surroundings, your child can likely handle camp if s(he) is confident in these scenarios.”
5) They follow instructions from other caregivers than parents and teachers. Your kids should also be able and willing to follow instructions from authority figures other than you and their regular classroom teachers since camp life is full of rules and routines. Ms. Patino says that parents should ask themselves questions such as these: “Can your child remember all the steps for tasks like clearing a table in the dining hall? Will your child listen and follow through if the counselor gives instructions?” If the answer is yes, your kids could be ready for sleepaway camp.
6) They exhibit independence and personal initiative. Sleepaway camp also requires kids to exhibit independence and personal initiative. They should be able to solve all kinds of problems, large and small, on their own, know when it’s better to ask counselors for help, and be able to make new friends among kids they’ve never met before. On a very practical level, they should be able to take responsibility for their personal hygiene and handle a daily routine.
7) You’re ready to let them go! It’s a great sign if your kids are bursting at the seams to go to their first sleepaway camp, but are you truly ready for it? As Ms. Kirby says, “Your child may be jumping for joy at the thought of spending a week or more with friends old and new, but ultimately, you as the parent have to be ready to let them go.”

A Lesson He’ll Remember For the Rest of His Life
Q . Our 21-year-old son is in college, and we’ve always warned him to stay away from credit cards. Despite our warnings, we recently learned he got a store-branded credit card. The good news is he has stayed under the credit limit. The bad news is he has never made any payments on the purchases he made, and now he owes about $3,800. He’s a good student, and my husband and I want to look at this as a young person’s one-time mistake. Do you think we should pay off the card for him just this once?
A. Believe me, I understand you wanting to help him out. It means you’ve got a good heart, and you love him. No parent likes seeing their child in a bad situation.
There’s a reality here, though, I hope you won’t overlook. It’s his debt, not yours. He knew what he was doing when he signed up for that credit card. He knew what it meant, what was expected, and he’s the one who should make good on the repayment. There’s nothing unfair about that.
Now, you’re right. This is a typi cal young person’s mistake. And like a lot of mistakes our kids make, it’s one that’s bad and wonderful at the same time. It’s bad because if he had just listened to you and his dad, he would’ve avoided the whole mess. It’s wonderful, though, because it gives you
two the opportunity to provide him with a real world, teachable moment.
At this point, my advice is for both of you to give him a great big hug, and lovingly explain where he went wrong and why it was a bad idea. If you want, you can even go a step further, and help him find a part-time job if he doesn’t have one right now, so he can pay off his debt and get out of this mess. It’ll take some planning and discipline on his part, but leave the payments to him. Hopefully, by the time he finishes working his tail off—and scrimping and saving to pay this debt—he will have learned a lesson he’ll remember for the rest of his life.

Many parents want their kids to experience summer camps but the idea of spending several nights away from home is a little scary for both the parent and child. A great alternative, especially for younger kids, is to send them to day camp.
Eastern Shore Parents I March 2024 www.easternshoreparents.com 50
Day camp, as the name implies, typically consists of a series of consecu tive days where the child is away during the daytime hours. Children leave in the morning to have the camp experience and come home in the afternoon or evening to have dinner with their families and sleep in their own beds. Day camp gives kids many of the same learning experiences as a typi cal sleepover camp.
Builds independence
Camp is a great place for kids to explore their own independence and day camp is no different. Kids are dropped off at camp in the morning where they are challenged with new activities that they may not get the opportunity to try at home. They will make friends, eat lunch, and follow directions without the help of their parents. Kids start to feel more self confident and independent as the week goes on.
Learn new skills
Day camps typically offer op portunities to learn and grow in areas that children may not be exposed to at school. Kids can pick camps that tailor to their interest including a variety of sports, music, dance, theater, science, art, ex ploring nature, and more. If your child is drawn to a particular activity or subject, chances are there is a camp that would interest them. Kids who are not particu larly drawn to academics will thrive in day camps because they are rewarded for their talents and interests.
Make new friends
While you may sign your child up for a camp with a friend, they will meet many new people their age. Children gain con fidence as they learn to talk to and work with people that they have never played with previously. The opportunity to make friends with children that share similar interests and a fun new experience helps kids feel more comfortable when they are in new situations.
Take a break from the screen
When children spend time at day camp, they get a much needed break from screen time. As video games, apps, TV, and tablets take more and more of our free time, getting the kids outside to play or having fun while learning new skills is a priceless benefit to parents. Who knows? When the kids come home from camp,
can use for a lifetime including problem solving and leadership skills, improved confidence, and an openness to new things. Depending on the camp, they may learn other skills that will stick with them. My kids learned how to start a fire and cook their own meal at local scouting camps. My daughter gained the confidence to get on stage in front of a room full of parents and peers at theater camp. My kids improved their skills at sport camps and they faced their fears while
right for your family, consider what type of camp your child would be most interested in. Choose something that you know they will be successful at and consider inviting a friend to sign up with your child. Let your child help you choose the right camp and then let them know you think they will do great.

It’s normal for kids to feel shy around new people or situations but parents may worry their child is missing out on friendships and experiencing social situations because they are too shy to engage with others. Most reserved children maintain healthy relationships and enjoy social situations once they get over the hurdle of unfamiliarity.
How can you support your shy child while encouraging them to enjoy participating in social situations?
Help them feel confident
One of the best ways to support a shy child is to put them in social situations they feel most comfortable in. If your child loves art but dislikes sports, they will be much more likely to engage with others in an artistic environment than on a sports team. When enrolling your child in camps or attending play dates, keep in mind that they are much more likely to open up and build relationships with other kids when they are doing something they love with kids who have common interests.
Teach social skills
Young kids may feel shy because they are unsure of how to act in social situations. You can teach them social skills through role play. This can be done by acting out scenarios they may come across or using dolls or toys. Practice saying “Hi, my name is Avery. Do you want to play?” Go through the
possible scenarios and how to respond. What would happen if the child said “No. You can’t play.” or what would happen next if they say you can play. Going through possible scenarios will help your child feel more confident in real life situations. “I encourage my kids to speak for themselves whenever possible.” said Amy Cameron, Olathe mom of three. “They order their own food in restaurants and tell the doctor what their symptoms are. It’s so easy to speak for them, but I actively try not to.” Encouraging your child to speak up for themselves in common situations like ordering food at a restaurant or asking a teacher for help will help them learn to advocate for themselves in the future as well.
Help them make friends
Kids who are shy often feel more comfortable in small groups or one-on-one. You can help your child build friendships by hosting playdates with other kids. You know your child best and can invite other kids who are a good match, with common interests, and choose a location where your child feels confident. If the playdate feels awkward at first, have a few planned activities to do together and prompt your child. “Do you want to show your friend your toys?” or “Would you like to choose a board game?” or “Do you want to go outside and play on the swingset?” Chances are, the kids will begin to talk, play, and find common ground they can build a friendship on. Kids who are shy may hold back at first but that doesn’t mean they don’t desire and enjoy friendships. By helping them develop friendships, you will help them overcome their shyness in a natural way.
www.facebook.com/easternshoreparentsmagazine
Ask for help
If your child is feeling shy at school, reach out to teachers for help. Your child’s teachers, coaches, and the other adult role models in their lives can encourage them to speak up for themselves, participate in social situations, encourage friendships, and help them feel safe as they step out of their comfort zone. Teachers can challenge shy kids to step out of their comfort zone when the time is right in a way that doesn’t seem overwhelming or forced.
Be patient
As your child grows and matures, they usually outgrow their shyness. It’s also important to remember that some kids are introverted. Not every introvert is shy and not every shy child is introverted, but they do often go together. There is nothing wrong with being quiet and parents should be careful not to label or criticize their child for feeling shy or if they are naturally an introvert. Be patient and encouraging with your child. When they do step out of their comfort zone, praise them for the effort.
“As a mom of an introvert who is herself an extrovert, I constantly remind myself that we don’t need the same kind of experiences to feel fulfilled.” said Shawnee mom, Kara Thomas. “It’s hard to resist the urge to push him into things that I would enjoy, I just always check in to make sure he’s enjoying life and when he needs some help, we brainstorm ways that meet what he needs.”
Shyness is often a child’s response to new or scary situations and is common in young kids. It can be the result of emotions such as fear, anxiety, and nervousness which are often valid feelings in a new situation. Try not to force your child to be outgoing but instead, gently encourage them. If you feel your child is dealing with extreme shyness where they are unable to speak or freeze in social situations longer than age appropriate, speak to your pediatrician for tips on how to best support them.

Online Noise!
How Much Is Too Much and How to Quiet It
In today’s world, it seems like everyone knows everything about everybody. And that just feels like a lot of “stuff” for our brains to take in. What your neighbor had for dinner with their spouse during #datenight. How much your friend’s friend of a friend is enjoying their vacation. #blessed How angry the neighbor down the street is with her husband because he won’t help around the house. #whocares
The first time your cousin’s toddler went potty on the potty. #finally How much your favorite influencer’s daughter loves to dress up as Elsa and provide 50 pictures of her as proof. #letiggo No. Really. Please, let it go. Or make it stop.
For thousands of years, and up until around 20 years ago, our main form of communication was face-to-face interaction, meaning you were limited to the amount of information you received about other people and their lives. You were limited to local information, not what was happening globally. I would argue that while we seem to want to know everything, having constant access
While I am speaking a bit tongue in cheek here, and I think your kids are cute, at some point, it becomes too much. Notwithstanding all of the new issues we are now facing with privacy and AI, if we narrow it down to bare bones, we were never meant to have this much input every day. Our bodies and minds are not built for the constant onslaught of information we receive through our screens.
by widening our lenses hasn’t led to fulfillment or enlightenment; instead, it has contributed to feelings of angst and anxiety.
As humans, we have a limit. A spillover point, if you will. Where even good news feels like too much news and adds to our every feeling of being overwhelmed. As anthropologist Dr. Anna Machin states, “We are whipping ahead with all this innovation, doing these
amazing things, but the biological evolution hasn’t evolved and isn’t adapted to having social relationships online. So there is a massive mismatch.”
Our brains and bodies are incredibly smart. There are cool fail-safes built within our system that give off warning signs when it has had too much. Is it any wonder that collectively, as a society, we feel more overwhelmed and exhausted than ever? Online noise is... noisy. And our voyeuristic desire to constantly peek into the window of everyone else’s home works hand in hand with the available noise. The side effect is the noise drowns out all the cues our bodies are so desperately trying to give us. To rest. To take a break. To get sunshine and fresh air. To navigate only your life issues. Our bodies simply are not built to hold the weight of the world.
What can we do? Share less. Get online less. Get outside more. Have more face-to-face interactions. These seem like such simple and easy ideas. And they are. Honoring how we are made may be the key to quieting the noise.
