An ever-changing park along the 100-year timeline
Site is located in the center of Taichung
MALAYSIA
Located in the middle of Taiwan western coat, Taichung receives dierent inuences from both northern and southern regions. The site, Taichung Gateway Park, was former Shuinan Airport, ca. 6 KM from the Main Railway Station in the old city center. It expands from the north to the south edge of Taichung Gateway City, totally 67.34 ha.

Site Ecology role
Concept Restoration to Genuine Green. Formosa, a verdant green island centuries ago, now turns to grey and cemented. Every Taiwanese nowadays consumes concretes 35 kg/yr in average. Shuinan Airport, constructed by Japanese Army with tons of concrete, is a testimony to that cementation process. Restoring the cemented airport to a genuine green should be the ultimate mission of Taichung Gateway Park.

Activity areas of different size are represented as “circles" with irregular layout.
The overlapping areas between circles are drawn lines, forming boundaries between cells.
Cells of different size are designed to be shapes of the same structure through specific rules.

Small activity areas can be formed by dividing colossal cells into smaller ones.
Likewise, small cells can merge into a colossal cell as they change always according to the change of the times and needs.

Rainwater Recycle System
Water Strategy Water is imported from the Gangwei River to create wetlands in the park with aquatic plants to stop suspended solids in water, absorb ammonia nitrogen and inorganic salts, and purify water. Surface run-off from the main buildings in the park, the park area and rainwater and reclaimed water from surrounding communities are led to the artificial river in the park to offer irrigation, landscape and disaster prevention functions. Streams, beaches, flooding, and wetlands of different depths create a multi-leveled waterfront space and form continuous plant and animal clusters.

Plant Plan
Tolorant Species Forest Birds(Eagles)
The climate in Taichung is rainy in summer and dry in winter. The micro-terrain in Taichung can be categorized into six important types of inhabit, including wetland, forest, lawn, stream, garden and precious old trees scattered far and wide. This planting design contain the six important types of terrain as cells in the Central Park organism, hoping to reach the goal of creating continuity with the surrounding micro-terrain of the same attribute and allowing diverse ecologies to enter and create symbiosis.

Color Plan
Lauraceae community offers a background color of green tone; each single cell is planted with one colorful species, with season changes.

Secondary Woods(20-100 years)

Spring Young leaves in springtime make the background color bright green. Flowering trees like Chinaberries give a purple tone.
Summer Mature leaves in summertime create a dark green base, decorated with yellow flowers.
Autumn Dried, falling leaves turn the park into a dark red color in autumn.
Winter The park appears in a dull tone when winter comes, since most leaves fall down, and Lauraceae trees give the major color.

CONCEPT Stregthen pedestrian spaces to establish a safe and attractive atmosphere for pedestrians will create a lively street life and encourage people to connect with the community or campus Parking lots precent an opportunity to open up and unify the public space on the site. This is a strength that change parking into central activityareas could open up new spaces for pedestrianwalkways and public gathering space.

Heavy Basis
The idea from these prototype is come from two main reasons. First, we want people can have their own fog collector which is portable, personal, and cheap. To achieve this apporach, the new collector should be less consumable, cheap, and easy to build. So we try to combine structure, gutter and basis part together to not only reduce the weight but also make it affordable. Second, in order to fir the context of cemetery site, we make fog collectors as the media for the journey between life and death. It bring life back by giving water to plant; and also guilding people to cemetery to see the past. As a result, we choice “Sail Boat” to be the original form for this prototype.

SQWater Toy Year: 2012 Instructor: Ben Spencer Project Type: Prototype Design Projrct Duration: 1 weeks
RACING BRITA
The purpose of this assignment is to create a toy which can easily build by children in slum of Lima. The toy should not only provide a elegant shape and an attractive way to play, but also teach children some water knowledge. I used some material that can easily find in trash can to create a racing toy with water purify function. Children can fill up dirty water from the input at the begining of the racing game. After they finished, they can enjoy clean water from output.
