Intro
Keiki TIRED OF CHILDREN’S CLOTHES?... I often get the question “don’t you ever get tired of children’s clothes?”. The answer is “no!”. I love that when it comes to children’s clothes everything is allowed. You can mix patterns and colours in innumerable ways – even in ways that most adults wouldn’t dare – and I find this to be liberating and playful. The fact that it’s playful is the main reason that I never tire of children’s fashion, and in this issue we have put extra emphasis on it. Have your kids wear a classic outfit in the style of French Riviera or Royal Copenhagen one day, and then go all in with relaxed beach style, Jungle Fever or Hawaii theme the next. This magazine is filled with tons of inspirational fashion tips, so there’s no excuse to hesitate! But it’s not only fashion: in this issue we go global. We travel to Rome, the kids bedroom is from Finland, Then & Now features Swedish Annica who lives in Australia, and Brand of the Month is American. Personally, I did a quick trip to Tokyo – but this I’ll fill you in on another time.
I wish you happy reading and a great summer!

Petit by Sofie Schnoor Growing up in the fashion industry, then attending a school of art as well as working for fashion companies, it was no surprise that Sofie Schnoor was meant to be creative for a living. When she was just 26 years old she founded her own design company selling shoes and clothes to adults. In 2007, Petit by Sofie Schnoor saw the light of the day: A new fashion brand for kids had arrived and would soon take off. The many beautiful collections of clothes and shoes are not only a playful mix of elegance and edge, but they also contain a simpleness that puts the child in focus. Sofie Schnoor finds inspiration around the globe, when she visits second hand shops, markets and more – the encounter with a tiny piece of fabric, a button or a string can inspire a completely new collection. We met Sofie Schnoor for a talk about her background, her interest in children’s clothes and her own favourites. Moreover, we can reveal a new project, which we can look forward to. 28

30
Interview WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND? I grew up in the fashion industry and drank in a lot of my knowlegde from my mother’s milk. At a very early stage, I learned to form an opinion about style and design; be critical, full of ideas and believe in myself. In addition to this, I was enrolled in a school of arts and worked for various outlets and fashion companies before I, at the age of 26, founded Sofie Schnoor A/S.
“I was missing a brand that put the child in focus – not the clothes.” YOU STARTED OUT DESIGNING CLOTHES AND SHOES FOR ADULTS, THEN YOU LAUNCHED THIS FOR KIDS. WHERE DID YOUR INTEREST IN CHILDREN’S FASHION COME FROM? When I had my daughter, Marie-Olympia, and later Alexander, I felt that the market was missing something. At that point of time, everything revolved around big graphic prints and multi-colours and logos. I was missing a brand that put the child in focus – not the clothes. It was actually quite a gamble, since all the shops here in Denmark were filled with clothes in the other style – consequently, they had to get used to my look for kids. But we got off to a positive start and soon had quite a few retailers. Especially abroad where we still have a very strong profile. IS THERE A GREAT DIFFERENCE IN FASHION FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN? In my view, children’s fashion is a wonderful business. It’s full of commitment, enthusiasm, and talented people who sincerely enjoy what they’re doing. The approach to the design is the same whether for children or adults. When I work on my collections I sense the
current tendencies of the time and street scene (and where ever else I get my inspiration from) and this is how I create my collections. Naturally, there are certain technicalities you need to be aware of when you create shoes and clothes for kids, but on a creative level there’s no difference for me. WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION? When travelling, everything around me, the world of music, and the street scene. I’m the kind of type who gets inspired very easily and senses all things around me... So, actually, I’m always working. WHICH MATERIALS ARE YOUR FAVOURITES? When it comes to kids, the fabrics must be light and comfortable to wear. I work a lot with cotton and fine knitwear. Concerning shoes, it’s important to me that the material is soft and flexible leather. I use Italian leather, primarily... IF YOU HAD TO CHOSE A FAVOURITE STYLE FOR BOYS AND GIRLS FROM THE SPRING/ SUMMER COLLECTION 2013, WHICH ONES WOULD YOU CHOOSE? For girls I’d choose our neon dotted stretch paints. For boys the denim shirt. WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT? I’m slowly working on my Winter 2014 collection; the first sketches, colour choices etc. At the moment, Summer 2014 samples are all arriving, so I need to prepare these for the trade fair, and the catalogues need to be done in order for the collections to be available for the sellers.
“Psst, we’re opening a flagship store this autumn!” 31
Interview
“We’re launching a brand new line for girls aged 4-14, “DANCE by SOFIE SCHNOOR”, which will be available in selected shops this autumn.”
We’ve just gotten a tiny puppy, Picasso, so we enjoy taking him for walks...
WHAT CAN WE LOOK FORWARD TO IN THE AUTUMN/WINTER COLLECTION 2013? There are a lot of pretty suits for the girls which can be mixed. I’m especially happy with the colours in the new collection and all the wonderful animal prints on jumpsuits and t-shirts... For boys, there’ll be some great thin knitwear with prints on the front and sweatshirts in a washed finish. I’m very pleased with those as well. DU YOU HAVE ANY NEW PROJECTS IN THE MAKING THAT YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US? Yes, we’re launching a brand new line for girls aged 4-14, “DANCE by SOFIE SCHNOOR”, which will be available in selected shops this autumn – among others Stræk & Bøj, smaahjerter.dk and Illum. It’s an active line specialised for dancing, athletics or other types of movement. However, all styles are also suitable for daily wear. The colours are grey, silver and black with a hint of neon. You can really look forward to that one. Psst, we’re also opening a flagship store this autumn, but you’ll have to hear more at a later point... DO YOU HAVE ANY CHILDREN? Yes, I have Marie-Olympia aged 9 and Alexander aged 6. IF YES, WHAT ARE YOU FAVOURITE SUNDAY ACTIVITIES? We’re a very active family, so we’re often away during the weekends. Either in Sweden, at Louisiana, visiting friends or the like.
Petit by Sofie Schnoor Petit by Sofie Schnoor was launched in 2007. In 2010, Sofie Schnoor opened a shop-in-shop in Illums Bolighus in central Copenhagen. Shortly afterwards, she opened yet another one in Illums Bolighus in Aarhus, one in Oslo and in Stockholm. Today, Sofie Schnoor is sold worldwide. Find out more on www.petitbysofieschnoor.com.

A new webshop, www.fnubbu.com, has just opened and there are tons of temptations. Fnubbu is a Danish brand which since 2009 has created collections for women in exclusive cashmere and wonderful prints on cotton and silk. The designer behind the brand, Signe Møller Jensen, decided last year that it was time to open a web shop and with a sharp eye for fashion and good taste, 40
Signe has carefully selected great products from other designers and artists which compliments Fnubbu’s collections. She now opens the doors to the new shopping universe; we’re especially hooked on the many lovely products for kids. A babybody with watercolour printing, peculiar cards and mobiles are on the top of our wish list.
Focus on...
WHAT IS FNUBBU?
Fnubbu is a clothes and accessories brand that makes luxury cashmere knitwear, cotton jerseys and printed silk. Fnubbu has existed since 2009 and is now also available as an online shop where we also sell other items, e.g. great things for children. WHERE DOES THE NAME COME FROM? My boyfriend and I came up with the name. It’s the sound of the name that we fell for and the fact that it fits my personality! It sort of referred to something soft, fluffy, peculiar and colourful. HOW LONG HAVE YOU EXISTED? I launched my first collection in 2009.
WHICH STYLES ARE YOUR FAVORITES FROM THE SPRING/SUMMER COLLECTION 2013? Personally, I’ve been very pleased with Sarah Moutouh’s bib. I’ve carried them with me when we’ve been away. They are pretty and practical, of course. OMY Design & Play’s big drawing sheet is a favorite of mine too. It’s the perfect thing for a get-together or children’s birthdays. The painting crayons from Playon Crayon are decorative and easy for the little ones to hold. Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps – I’ve used a few drops Neutral-Mild for the baby in the tub, and personally, I use it regularly when washing my silks and cashmere. Finally, I’ve (of course) also used Fnubbu’s own lovely printed bodies.
WHAT BRANDS DO YOU SELL IN YOUR WEB SHOP? Naturally, we have our own Fnubbu accessories, clothes and home décor. We also sell lip balm from Figs & Rouge, Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, Lei Foo jewelry, Moutouh children’s clothes, paper items from OMY Design & Play from Paris as well as mobiles and painting crayons from Australian Studio SKINKY. Besides that we also have some illustrations from Lisbet Krøll, wonderful journals from American Nikke McClure and fine ceramics Tina B. Ceramics.

BOY + GIRL The American children’s fashion brand Boy+Girl was launched in spring 2012. The collections offer a combination of ethnic prints and great materials from Japan, €pe and the US. The collections are a mix of lovely and edgy styles which all embody a philosophy declaring that the child can live, play, and grow in the clothes. Boy+Girl is all about quality and good designs who inspire outdoor life and fun. The designs for boys are inspired by the Californian surfer style and skater culture – this is in stark contrast to the girls’ line which is inspired by simpel European sensitivity. The designer behind the brand, Christine Chang, has worked with both Ralph Lauren and Nike meaning that the bar was set high at an early stage. Despite these expectations, Christine Chang hasn’t disappointed and we warmly recommend dressing Junior in Boy+Girl. See and read more on www.shopboyandgirl.com 42

Terese Hoffelt, 39 years old, owner of Hevea. She lives with her husband and their two children, Augusta (6) and Alfred (4), in Brussels, Belgium. She still has an office in Dragør, Denmark, where the family lived before. www. heveababy.com
MY FAVOURITES
Terese Hoffeldt from Hevea Brussels
Love having moved to the middle of Europe where Paris, Amsterdam and London can be reached by train in mere hours. When you have kids, Brussels is a really cool metropolis because there are numerous green areas, fun playgrounds and loads of cake! And you sometimes need this after a long school day – children are enrolled at the age of four already.
64
My Favourites
Le Chambre
If you’re going to Brussels, I recommend taking the kids to the forest called Le Cambre. There’s a little lake where you can rent rowing boats or simply have lunch or an ice cream. www.chaletrobinson.be
Dragør and Hollyhocks
Dragør is an amazing town for kids to live in. It’s close to nature, good schools, large ice creams on the harbour front and tons of ducks for the little ones to feed. I’ve been there many a Sunday way too early! The old part of town where we used to live is definitely worth a visit with the kids. It’s a beautiful walk down the narrow crooked streets with their old houses and lovely hollyhocks, my favourite flower.
Italy
My favourite place to go on holiday is Italy. We have a small town house situated in the mountains in a nature reserve only two hours from Rome. You get the best coffee, spring water from the tap, fabulous food and kids are loved and welcome everywhere.
Reflection
I’ve read a bit too much about all the bad things there are to be found in lotions, print on clothes, plastic toys, and in food. I prefer to buy organic products and support companies that do something for the environment. Consequently, some of my everyday favourite brands are Bio Carrefour, Urtekram, Muuto, Green People (Organic Children) and, of course, our own Hevea rubber toys. 65

Focus on... Little Hanbury is the name of the loveliest web shop for boys only between the age of 2-10. Little Hanbury has managed to create its own universe full of cool brands such as Indikidual, Quenotte and Nico Nico – just to mention a few. There’s a large selection of tops and trousers as well as cool shoes and accessories. Sarah, who’s the owner, has a fabulous ability to select and mix the perfect styles. There’s no doubt that you’ll find your favourite outfit to Junior in no time. www.littlehanbury.co.uk

Focus on...
How long has Little Hanbury existed?
Little Hanbury is only a baby. We launched the web shop in March, so we’re only just getting settled. I can’t wait for AW13 so we can add more brands and see how everything will develop.
Describe Little Hanbury with five words? Fantastic quality products for boys.
Where does the name Little Hanbury come from?
We live in East London, close to Brick Lane (it’s a part of London which has experienced increasing popularity lately). For years, this neighbourhood has been known for its curry eateries, but now it’s also known for its vintage shops and café culture. One of my favourite side streets to Brick Street is Hanbury Street. So this is where the idea originated from; I added “little” since it’s a children’s universe.
Why is it only a boys’ universe?
There’s already such a great selection of clothes for girls that I almost felt lost – I found it almost impossible to find nice things for my son. Everybody I talked to were experiencing the same issue, so I thought that I’d find lovely boys’ clothes from various places and then I’d give them their own universe. I love it when I encounter brands which focus just as much on boys as on girls, or unisex brands such as Tootsa MacGinty and Esp No1.
Which five styles are your summer favourites?
My absolut favourite is definitely the Nico Nico sweatshirt. Great quality and even organic. Besides that, I’m particularly excited about the two-coloured shirt from Quenotte, red trousers from Imps & Elfs, swimming trunks from Australian Munster Kids, and the backpack from Herschel Supply Co is a classic.

Ubang In Japanese
The Danish fashion brand for kids UBANG has initiated a collaboration with Japanese Bandai to create three exclusive nightwear collections which will be launched on the Japanese market thrice during 2013. The images for the first collection will be a mischievous monkey, a good-natured elephant, a happy octopus, and a giraffe stretching its neck along one of the sleeves. Thus, the concept is faithful to to designer and owner Ulla Bang Jørgensen’s fundamental vision: That kids’ clothes should appeal to curiosity as well as being integrated in play and work on the kids’ premisses. At Keiki, we love this new collaboration and will be looking forward to the future collections! See more at www.bandai.co.jp and www.ubang.dk
Tooth Fairy
We see a lot of great things for kids online, and the lovely tooth fairy from Rarebird is no exception. There are many traditions as to how to “celebrate” loosing the milk teeth. Do you put a coin under the pillow? Will the tooth fairy arrive with a present? Or something completely different? No matter what, the “celebration” will certainly be that more merry with these lovely tooth fairies in pink or light blue. 120 DKK

A Dream Then... To have my own giant tree house in a tall tree.
Now... At the moment I dream about finding a lovely family home and figure out where in the world we would like to live. We have lived in Australia the past six years, and it’s been a wonderful adventure that we’re not quite sure how will end. As much as I love adventure, I also have a strong desire to work out where we as a family would like to settle down. Meanwhile, we have raised Aussie kids who love Vegemite and who can spend hours on the beach and in the sea. I reckon that life will show us the path soon!
Career Then... I was undecided between archaeologist (the Indiana Jones-type, not the real kind!), veterinarian, artist or pro skateboarder!
Now... After eight years as movies/games animator, I have changed direction; I now work as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator as well as being creative consultant for Munster Kids. I’m a trained photographer and I blog about everything on my blog Minor De:tails that inspires me from the children’s universe – fashion, décor, and everything which makes life fun as a mom.

Favourite Dish Then... My mom’s magical salmon and baked potatoes.
Now... I’m very fortunate in having found a husband who is an amazing cook. My favourite dish at the time is his pasta linguini with Morton Bay Bugs (an giant Australian shrimp).
Favourite Movie Then... “Never Ending Story”.
Now... I’m still crazy about “Buffalo 66” by Vincent Gallo.
Music Dengang... A-ha’s “Take On Me”.
Nu... Currently, I listen to Australian Matt Corby and his new song “Resolution”.
Favourite Book Then... Astrid Lindgren’s book which my dad would often read to me. There were some amazing stories that I still remember.
Now... I have to say that the book that really matters to me is “Catcher In The Rye” by J.D. Salinger. I found a used copy in a staircase when I lived in Copenhagen eight years ago, and I was very touched about the story of Holden Caulfield and his journey to adulthood.
Vacation Then... Winter skiing holidays with my mom, dad and older brother in Sweden as well as many camping trips around Europe.
84
Now... Roadtrip in Tasmania and New Zealand. Adventure trips to various parts of Australia. A total relaxation trip to Bali with my husband and kids is still on our to-do list.

What You Need
Feathers, egg trays, a couple of paper plates, paint, and some “flutter paper” for the tails.
The pictures basically speak for themselves, and it’s very simple. Start out by clipping the paper plates together and put the egg tray on as eyes. Then you simply let your imagination run wild and paint a funny and fearsome dragon. Lastly, when the paint has dried, you can decorate it by adding feathers and tails. 97

Pizza, Pasta, Pronto.... Guide To Rome By www.luvaville.com
103
Keiki no. 09 Rome is known for its many beautiful and marvellous monuments and museums, but you’ll also find amazing cosy little streets and piazzas, Italian food which kids love, fun playgrounds and a very welcoming and child friendly people. Simply profound fantastic family experiences that you shouldn’t miss. Most importantly, however, you should make up how critical it is for you to visit all the sights as the queue is normally very long and the waiting time can be difficult for the youngest ones. If you travel with a bit older children, the historical aspect and landmarks such as the Colloseum can be very rewarding. The biggest challenge for families with small children travelling with a pushchair, however, is to get around the city. Rome’s public transportation isn’t the most punctual and it can easily become a quite stressful affair when you you carry around kids, pushchair and bags. So be patient and avoid rush hours. Most streets consists of cobblestones and consequently they can be a bit of a challenge for pushchairs. Simultaneously, the sense of chaos is a big part of Rome’s charm, so when you know what to expect, the city should simply be enjoyed. Knowing the challenges, take your children’s hands and discover the beautiful and exciting metropolis from their point of view.
