ADVANCES IN IMPLANT SURGERY with Hands-on Workshop April 25 – April 26, 2015

This course is designed to familiarize participants with the every day practice of implant treatment. This course will address how to place implant in an ideal 3-dimensional position with proper soft tissue thickness. Participants will learn the following procedures: socket augmentation using many different advanced technique (mineralized bone plug, PTFE and others), immediate implant placement and immediate temporalization as well as advances in horizontal bone augmentation. It will familiarize participants with many different flap designs as well as suturing techniques. A “decision tree� of how to choose the most predictable procedure for horizontal bone augmentation will also be provided and discussed. After completion of this two-day continuing education course, the participant will be able to: Know how to incorporate implant therapy into their daily practice Learn step-by-step surgical sequence and clinical tips associated with implant placement Know the concept of ideal implant 3D position and esthetic triangle Recognize the advantages and limitations associated with immediate implant placement and immediate implant functional loading Understand the decision making process to select the most appropriate techniques for horizontal bone augmentation. Be familiar with the newly introduced materials, pros and cons, for all these procedures. Be familiar with sandwich bone augmentation for predictable horizontal bone augmentation.

This course combines didactic lectures and hands-on workshop with pig jaws to cover variety implant related surgical procedures: implant placement, immediate implant placement, socket augmentation and simple bone augmentation In addition, live videos will be used to illustrate all these procedures.

Hom-Lay Wang, DDS., MSD., Ph D, Collegiate Professor of Periodontics, Professor and Director of Graduate Periodontics at the University of Michigan. He published more than 25 book chapters/invited reviews and more than 350 scientific articles. Dr. Wang is a member of Leadership Development and Qualification Committee as well as a Consultant of Scientific Oversight Committee for the American Academy of Periodontology and also serves as a Chair of Website Educational Committee as well as a member of Clinical Innovation Committee for the Academy of Osseointegration, is a Diplomate and a Former Co-Chair and Director of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow of American College of Dentists. He serves as an Associate Editor for The International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants and Founding Editorial board member for Clinical Advances in Periodontics, Editorial Board member for the Journal of Periodontology, Clinical Oral Implants Research, International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry, Journal of Clinical Periodontology, Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry and many others. Dr. Wang is the recipient of following awards/honors: AADS clinical research fellowship award (1992), Best Faculty Award (2003), The Charles E. English Annual Award in Clinical Science and Techniques (2004), Best papers in Journal of Oral Implantology (2004) and Implant Dentistry (2004), Morton L. Perel Annual Award for Dental Implant Educator (2007), AAP University of Michigan Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in Periodontics (2010), AAP special citation award (2013) and ITI Andre Schroeder Research Prize (2014).
