STUDIO REPORT How an dome works , in terms of loads
Site visit – level 3, 158 City Road, Southbank
Prima Pearl is Melbourne’s second tallest residential tower standing at 225m in height over 67 levels. (Prima pearl, 2014) In this site visit, we took a deep look at the construction work at the highest floor and other indoor construction, which was a rewarding trip.

STUDIO REPORT The view at the 67th floor
Fence to prevent people standing too near the edge
The holes are for the joints to be built, joints let the loads pass through to the floor and later on to the ground.
The edge of the floor is for the use of installing windows on it. Winter garden is seen in the apartments on the 51st floor. Outside the apartments, there are stud walls and timber wall paralling.
WEEKLY APPENDIX moistureAn opening
opening
Water present at opening
A force to move water through the opening
Plastics
Properties
Sourcing from carbon, silicon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen
solution Remove
Remove any one of the conditions and water will not enter
Keep water away from openings
Neutralise the forces that move water through openings
One is sufficient but two or more is recommended in case one fails.
Plastics - considerations
Hardness
Medium low, depending on type
Fragility
Low-medium, generally will not break
Ductility
High(heated state), varied(cold state)
Flexibility
High flexibility and plasticity
Density
Low, 0.65x density of water
Conductivity
Very poor conductors of heat and electricity
Durability
Can very durable, depending on type
Sustainability
Varies greatly between recycled or not
Cost
Cost effective
Weather related damage Plastics properties degrade when exposed to weather (specially sunlight)
WORD LIST 1.Parapet Parapet is a barrier which is an extension of the wall at the edge of a roof, terrace, balcony, walkway or other structure. There are few parapets example, building parapets, firewall parapets, stair parapets etc. 2. Flashing Flashing minimize water penetration such as angling roof shingles away from the joint, placing chimneys at the ridge to throw off water, thus making buildings more durable and reducing indoor mold problems
3. Insulation Building insulation refers broadly to any object in a building used as insulation for any purpose, mainly thermal and sound insulation. We have seen it in our site visit, when workers put the insulation between the timber studs. 1. Parapet, 2014. Retrieved from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/parapet 2. Flashing, 2014.
