Signs of a Malfunctioning Map Sensor in your Car

Page 1

The MAP sensor is a type of engine pressure which measures the air pressure.

This pressure reading is used with engine speed to determine engine load.

The ECU is then able to deliver the correct amount of fuel to the engine.

Here are signs of a failing MAP sensor in your car.

MAP sensor measures high intake manifold pressure for proper flow of fuel.

If the sensor malfunctions, then it will increase your car’s fuel consumption.

It also increases the amount of hydrocarbon & carbon monoxide emissions.

Your car will also fail an emission test due to an increase in gases coming from your vehicle.

If MAP sensor measures low intake manifold pressure, it indicates a low engine load.

The PCM responds by reducing the amount of fuel being injected into the engine.

You may notice an increase in fuel economy but the engine isn’t powerful enough.

You will feel this loss of power when you try to accelerate.

A bad MAP sensor will cause your vehicle to fail an emission test.

Your tailpipe emissions may show a high level of hydrocarbons & other pollutants.

At first it is very difficult to diagnose any issues with the MAP sensor.

A properly trained technician will be capable of diagnosing any issues in MAP sensor.

The above-mentioned signs will be noticeable during MAP sensor failure.

Take your car to a certified auto repair shop to fix the MAP sensor.
