2020 FALL EDUCATIONAL VIRTUAL CONFERENCE & EXPO
WELCOME Greetings! On behalf of the AMRPA Education Committee, welcome to the 18th Annual AMRPA Virtual Fall Educational Conference & Expo. We are happy that you are joining us during what we know has been a challenging year. Although we are connecting from our homes and offices, rather than in person, we are confident that over the course of this week you will be able to learn, connect and grow as a medical rehabilitation professional. Over the next five days, you will have the opportunity to attend a variety of sessions in four concurrent tracks, designed to address the most important issues that medical rehabilitation providers are facing today: Business Operations and Leadership Development; Clinical Care Delivery: A Team Approach; Regulatory, Legislative and Accreditation Matters; and Technology, Research and Innovation. In addition to concurrent sessions, there will be the IRF Boot Camp, seven educational roundtable discussions, more than 20 interactive poster presentations, several networking sessions, rehabilitation-focused exhibitors and more! Please take advantage of the virtual networking and exhibitor time that has been set aside in the conference schedule; these opportunities will allow for professional growth and advanced knowledge of new products and services that enhance our profession. If you have any questions or need assistance during the conference, please reach out to AMRPA staff or an education committee member – we are here to help! I look forward to learning with you. Warmly, Kent Riddle Chair, AMRPA Education Committee CEO, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital

AMERICAN MEDICAL REHABILITATION PROVIDERS ASSOCIATION
CONFERENCE SCHEDULE Plenary Sessions Medical Rehabilitation Patient Perspective Speaker Laurel Dupont, PT, DPT, Chief Executive Officer, Northshore Rehabilitation Hospital For inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and units across the country, March 2020 was a month of rapid change. This was no different for Northshore Rehabilitation Hospital, led by Chief Executive Officer Laurel DuPont. While Laurel was focused on the health and safety of employees and patients at her newly opened hospital, she soon had to focus her own health when she failed a daily temperature screen when checking in for work. During this session, Laurel will talk about her perspective from a hospital leader to a COVID-19 patient and the recovery process in a medical rehabilitation setting.
Evidence-Based Leadership & the Silver Lining Craig Deao, MHA, Managing Director, Thought Leadership, Huron | Studer Group Amid the disruption and suffering caused by the pandemic, health care organizations also find themselves in a rare moment of grand experimentation. Fueled by sweeping changes to regulation, reimbursement and patient preferences, there has been an unprecedented wave of innovation from the rise of telehealth to the flexibility of working from home. But which of these positive changes will sustain, and which will fade away? Local leaders have more control than they often think. This session shares a perspective on where to look for innovation, how to nurture the positive changes so they endure and practical advice for ensuring you continue to build trusting relationships with your employees and communities based on the timeless Evidence-Based Leadership principles refined over the past 20 years.
Lessons Learned During a Quarter Century in International Medical Rehabilitation Accreditation Christine MacDonell, FACRM, Managing Director, Medical Rehabilitation and International Aging Services/Medical Rehabilitation, CARF International Cultural views of disability and health are integral to the differences in medical rehabilitation in regions around the world. Even with these differences, understanding how the standardization of processes can lead to more effective and efficient delivery of services is critical in providing care. During this session, Christine MacDonell will review the differences and similarities of rehabilitation services across the globe.
