About Me. Kelli Una Finn. 23.11.87

Fashion. Photograph. Curation. Journalism. Publications I am a Fashion Communication Graduate, with a thirst for literature whether writing or reading. From my degree I have learnt an abundance of skills from Photoshop to InDesign to creating publications. I made the decision to move out of my comfort zone for my Final Major Project and work on creating an inclusive fashion space. I am very family orientated and I have a younger brother who has some mental and physical disabilities, I wanted to use this to create a space which would stimulate his creative mind as well as my own. I tend to spend my spare time alone with my Olympus Trip 35 and as much film as I can get my hands on, I have been a keen photographer since a young age and would love to spend my life walking around every city in the world with my camera and a book. I hope this portfolio will inspire you to want to find out more about me if so my contact details are below. Email- kelli_finn@hotmail.com Mobile- 07817359112 Website- http://www.house-of-idiot.com

The Pete Problem “Musician, poet, drug user, rock star, Babyshamble and Libertine is one of the countries most observed contemporary musicians, familiar to millions but known to very few” Roger Pompharey Some may not realise it yet but Pete Doherty is a living British icon, I say give it a few years and this will become apparent. This tea-drinking father whose biggest influence is Chas and Dave is far from the pipe and slippers man he sounds like. This alcoholdrinking rock star is also a heavily addicted heroin user. This addiction is what he is most famous for, that and being an ex of the face of Britain, our very own Kate Moss. “Ironically it is the written word, the very thing that Peter loves the most, which comes back again and again and causes him the most damage…” wise words by someone who could not know Pete any better Jacqueline Doherty, Pete’s mum. A mother who has watched her intelligent prosperous teenager turn into a media surrounded drug addict, the pain she feels must run deep. Feeling as though her son is lost in a heroin laced world, she wakes up every morning to the guilt, worry and thought that every mother would dread, the worry of waking up to find out her son is lost from her forever. Unknown to a lot of people, hidden away from the media eye there is a five-year-old child, Astile, Pete’s baby boy.

Astile entered into the world to an addicted father and a rock star mother but still he was welcomed greatly not just by Pete but bought the upmost pleasure to his grandparents “He alone, I believe has given his granddad a raison d’être” Jackie writes in her book dedicated to the struggles she’s had with the “Peter Problem” as she would put it. The strange thing about Pete’s family is that they are quite sheltered from the media, although they read the tabloids it’s a rarity if a headline is plastered across the front page about them but when it something is written about them it can cause pain and upset to the whole family, “only today I have read that Peter is twenty nine where as in fact he has just turned 27 a minor point yes but if the media can’t be correct in minor easy to check details how can they be trusted at all?” write Jackie. Small mistakes can be easily forgiven and no one is harmed but one tabloid wrote how Doherty’s father also named Peter was an SAS war hero, this caused major upset to the family, as it was wildly untrue yet the repercussions could have been huge.

For fans of Doherty’s they will know Pete for his time in bands such as The Libertines and current band Babyshambles. The Libertines formed in 1997 by Doherty and his flat mate at the time and vocalist in the Libertines Carl Barat. The creation of The Libertines was the creation of Pete’s addiction and due to this Doherty was kicked out of the band in 2004. After breaking into Barat’s flat and stealing numerous personal items, Doherty felt devastatingly hurt and guilty “ I did love Carl like a brother and yes it hurt but only because” Doherty pauses, his glossy eyes are difficult to distinguish between a drug induces glare or tears, “truthfully then because no-one told me to my face I hear about it on the radio, I read about it in the papers…so I ended up shaving my head, robbing a phone and living in Kentish town in a crack house” It seems from Doherty’s word that the hurt that he felt by the band forced him into a downward spiral of crime and drug although this is no excuse. Doherty continues on the subject of the Libertine’s and especially of Carl Barat, Pete utters “I’d rather starve in the gutter than stab a friend in the back” It’s clear that Pete is feeling guilty by the look in his eyes, yet that is drowned out by the hurt and betrayal he is feeling. From the Libertines split was a huge positive; the world was graced with Babyshambles, Pete’s new project.. The line up in Babyshambles has changed many times to suit Pete’s mood the current line up stands as Pete on Lead Vocals, Mick Whitnall on guitar, Drew McConnell on bass and Adam Ficek on drums. A description by Drew summed Pete up in a sentence “one of the few people who can walk it like they talk it” this is so true to Pete’s character. He never aggressively attacks, physically or verbally, he can talk his way out of a sticky situation yet it is the choice of words he uses that successful puts the point across.

Babyshambles are still touring, releasing albums and singles but most of all getting Pete to turn up to gigs. Not just turning up but cleanly shaven, neatly dressed and able to stand on the stage for more than thirty minutes at a time. Pete has a quirky sense of style; he has become the king of the trilby hat. Pete is a keen vintage shopper, from cravats and ties to blazers and over coats. “He would normally enter the room wearing a cravat, a waistcoat and trousers and crisp white shirt with an air of Oscar Wilde about him.” Jacqueline Doherty describes her son on Christmas day. His love of traditionally menswear is executed perfectly, due to the fact Pete never looks overly dressed it seems very natural for him to be dressing this way. Pete mixes his usual day dress with rows and rows of rosary beads, scruffy hair, pale skin and needle marks in his arms. Pete is still a drug user today, after numerous trips to rehab and heroin implants (an implant that creates a chemical balance so the heroin fails to take affect) he still relays on a substance to make him comfortable in society, but he truly is “a stylish kid in a riot”
