How did your theatre background influence your MSMS experience? As a theater major and a singer, I invested a significant amount of time rehearsing with friends — you can’t put on a show without a team of talented people. But when I started working in groups at Kellogg, I realized I still had much to learn about collaboration.

How did the Career Management Center prepare you for life after Kellogg? I felt so utterly prepared for my consulting job at Deloitte — a job I wouldn’t have had without the help of my Kellogg career coach. Kellogg has excellent career services, and my coach was very invested in my future.

What other life lessons did you learn? One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you really can get better at something by devoting significant amounts of time and energy to it, and it’s extremely gratifying when hard work pays off. My Kellogg education helped me realize that, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Why did you want to enroll in the MSMS Program? I knew I wanted a career in the high-energy technology field, in an environment that was conducive to creativity and innovative thinking. To do that, I also knew I would have to complement the managerial skills I gained in my undergraduate studies with more quantitative skills and business discipline rigor. The MSMS Program offered the ideal solution.

What were your thoughts on the MSMS faculty? The legendary Kellogg faculty lived up to their reputation — knowledgeable, dedicated, passionate, accessible teachers willing to tailor the classes to our needs.

How did your classmates impact your MSMS experience? We came from very diverse backgrounds, so when we worked in teams on cases, we were able to leverage our different perspectives. I would go about the problem in one way, while the economics major, the engineer and the theatre major would work from a different angle. I learned so much from them.

Is there anything else you would say to prospective MSMS students? I’ve never studied or worked harder, but this was the best use of 10 months I could possibly imagine. You will come out smarter, more confident in your skills and totally prepared to stand out in any industry you choose.

EXPAND YOUR NETWORK LA’TERRIA TAYLOR ’15 Location: Atlanta, Georgia

background: Education

current employer: IBM

current job title: Business Analytics and

Strategy Consultant

What was it about the MSMS Program that interested you? I liked that I could continue my education right away in a 10-month program. The fact that I would be a Kellogg student, extend my network and possibly get a better job offer is what appealed to me.

What did you know about Kellogg’s alumni network? I’ve always known Kellogg’s alumni are very active. I knew I would be joining a great school with alumni who clearly want to give back and help you succeed. For example, Christina Alexander ‘14 has been a great resource since joining IBM. We’ve been able to chat about project opportunities and how best to navigate the company.

What advice would you give someone considering the MSMS Program? It’s a great opportunity. The alumni network is so strong, active and present. It’s a network you can’t pass on. The program pushes you, but it was well worth it. It put me in a great position.
