Adrienne is a little girl who loves pancakes.

Each morning, when she wakes up, her mom and dad ask what she would like for breakfast.

And every day, without fail, she says “I want pancakes, please!

Adrienne loves pancakes.

She likes them with lots of butter, and a little bit of syrup... and she likes them with a little bit of butter and lots of syrup.

...and she likes them... with whip cream and bananas, or strawberries and blueberries or powdered sugar and chocolate chips.

Adrienne loves pancakes.

One morning, just like always, her mom and dad asked her what she would like for breakfast and, just like always, she yelled out a cheerful answer. “Pancakes, please!” “How about some eggs?” Her mom asked. “No thank you. Pancakes please!” Adrienne replied. “What about hash browns?” Her dad said. Again, she said “No thank you. Pancakes, please!”

“Waffles? A Bagel? A couple of tomatos? Frittata, soufflé, crepe suzette flambé?” “No thank you. Pancakes, please!” Adrienne answered to every suggestion. “And I’m really hungry today, so could I have some extra helpings?”

So her daddy gave her some pancakes. And she ate them all up. Then her mommy gave her more, and she ate them all up.

She ate and ate and ate until her little belly was so stuffed, she could barely walk. She stumbled her way through the day until she could finally go to sleep.

When she opened her eyes, Adrienne gasped in surprise! There, right in her very own room, was a gigantic pancake! It seemed like it was waiting to be ridden, so she jumped on top of it, yelled out “Giddy up, pancake! and held on tight while the pancake flew out the window.

Over the roof, through the neighbors’ backyard, and down the street they flew. The birds flapped their pancake wings, while Mrs. Ziemo hung the pancakes out to dry on the clothesline. Kids skated on pads of butter and it started snowing powdered sugar.

“THIS IS GREAT!!” Adrienne yelled out to the sky in joy.

She steered her giant pancake horsey down into the pancake forest on the edge of town, took out a personalized fork and plate and started to eat.

She ate not one plate, not two plates, but three whole plates of pancakes stacked up high and piled with all sorts of toppings. “I’m so stuffed! she sighed, and she set down her plate and fork.

But the fork jumped up, stuck itself into a freshly fallen pancake leaf, and shoved itself into her mouth! “Hey!” Adrienne cried around a mouthful of sticky pancake. “I’m done!”

But the fork didn’t listen to her. The plate rushed around filling itself up, and the fork kept tossing pancake bits into her mouth. “That’s enough, that’s enough!” Adrienne cried. “I truly love pancakes, but THAT IS TOO MUCH!”

Adrienne started running away from the fork and plate, trying to get away from the pancakes and butter and syrup and toppings, but they ran right behind her. She ran past the skaters on the butter pads, Mrs. Ziemo and her clothes line, and the birds with their pancake wings until she got to her house.

She ran through the door, up the stairs, and into her room where she flopped onto her bed, covered her head with her pillow and yelled out,

“NO MORE PANCAKES!

She opened her eyes to a room without pancake birds or powdered sugar snow. “Mom! Dad!” She yelled, rushing down the stairs. “The fork and plate are gone! Hooray!” Adrienne’s mom and dad just looked at her. “Adrienne, you must have been dreaming. Your fork and plate are right here waiting for you. Now, what would you like for breakfast today? Pancakes?” Adrienne screwed up her face.

“No thank you! Bacon and eggs, please!”

Her dad laughed in delight. “Alright, Adrienne! Something different today!

Adrienne smiled back. “I think I’ve had enough pancakes for today.

But tomorrow...”
