LITHONIA / GA / USA / 2011 TEAM: UrbaNinjas w/ GA Conservancy PROFESSOR: Ellen Dunham-Jones CLIENT: City of Lithonia Project selected for CNU20 Conference
PROBLEM Lithonia is a small town, overshadowed by Atlanta, and suffers from a negative public image which simultaneously keeps its citizens APATHETIC and PREVENTS VISITORS from entering the TOWN CENTER
“
This project is the most highly successful iteration of tactical urbanism that I have seen simply because it connects the immediate to the next 20 years of planning. -Russ Preston, Director of Congress for New Urbanism
”
PROPOSAL By using TACTICAL URBANISM methods, we built SEVERAL INSTALLATIONS generated excitement in the community, revived a local business, created positive publicity, and promoted our classmates’ master planning efforts

The community has been very energized by the creativity that the students have been able to generate. This is an opportunity to look at how to take ideas that are on paper and make them a reality in a short amount of time. PROBLEM Once again Clarence Perry’s urban neighborhood diagram needs to be updated. Andres Duany’s digram, made in the 1980’s, is a response that made sense for that decade. How can the urban neighborhood diagram better reflect life in the 2010 decade?

design games!
a delicious, quick design challenge www.getwiththeprogram.tumblr.com
GWtP is a game I developed in order to more actively engage other designers. I began by asking students and professors, but quickly gained confidence to ask our guest lecturers and any other designers I had the chance to meet. The two most interesting things about this game is capturing personal style through a sketch, and also hearing the ‘sales pitch’ after the three minutes is over.
a game i developed that inspires, challenges, and delights all who dare to give it a try

Those who come to genetics research centers in hopes of curing a disease often donate months of time with very little chance of success. Instead, they give scientists amazing amounts of data. However, these places are rarely designed with the clinical trial user in mind. How can this building respond to the needs of all users, rather than just a select group? floor plate

PROPOSAL By studying migration patterns of societies over time (population genetics), I came to understand that some groups stay in one place while others choose to move on to something new. This influenced a building design driven by circulation. By creating one main education path, but then several other choices based on user type, the building becomes individualized.

BuildWhatHereRoskilde Roskilde / DK / 2012 Roskilde Music Festival Comeptition https://www.innosite.dk/idea.php?id=330
PROBLEM Roskilde Music Festival is taking a stance on poverty and inequality and wants this year’s architectural project in the “Poor City” (an area next to camping) to reflect this sentiment. The project needs to use recycled/upcycled materials and take into account a modest budget.
PROPOSAL Asylum seekers in Scandinavia have the catch-22 problem of being asked to integrate with society while simultaneously shut-off from society in project housing. By creating a field inspired by the Swayd Project, I want to hinder the festival go-ers movement torwards the piece of program where all the action takes place-- the Meeting House. Also, quotes from “The Local regarding immigrants in Scandinavia will be spray-painted on the interior of the shipping containers comprising the Meeting House.
